I thought the point of games was that they were an entertaining diversion to real life, not something that you would dedicate hours of your life as if they were a job.
This doesn't sound so much like he was playing a game, but rather doing monotonous, brain-numbing programming in order to have the computer play the game for him. What's the point?
"Suppose you're a college freshman deciding whether to major in math or economics. Well, math will give you more options: you can go into almost any field from math. If you major in math it will be easy to get into grad school in economics, but if you major in economics it will be hard to get into grad school in math."
This is absolutely, 100% incorrect. He is assuming that a graduate economics program would take a math student without any prior economics training (false). In addition, in order to be an econ major, you often have to take advanced math courses (for me it was Calc 3 so that I could take Econometrics). This part of his speech pretty much ruined the rest of it for me.
BTW - I know a lot of slashdot are "hard scientists", so save your "social sciences suck" arguments for later.
"The Powerbook I might buy? I would run Linux on it."
Buying a powerbook to run Linux is like baking pizzas in a toaster: it's just not done. If you're going to use Linux then buy a PC laptop: the linux options are superior and you won't be wasting money. If you want to use a Powerbook, then use it with OSX.

"512MB Flash MP3 Player: $150"
I'm merely pointing out that 512MB MP3 players do not cost $150, making the whole GBA+etc $100 more expensive than a 512MB flash player, not just $50.

I'm not sure why we're scratching for news here, but this is obviously a glorified press release (esp. with the download stats). Further, I'm not even sure how this qualifies as "news."
But, kudos for mentioning "Intel Extreme Edition Challenge" not once but twice. Maybe next time you can go for THREE times.
Shouldn't he have registered wikipediasucks.com in advance as his psychic powers would have allowed him to see the impact of his actions. Further, shouldn't he already have a slashdotsucks.com already? And, shouldn't I already have a reply to this message from him telling me I'm a fool?
There's a great episode of "The Office" in which Keith explains to Dawn about "fanny packs" before she travels to America. Hilarious, even to us Yanks.

Of course, we would never use the verb "banking" either. I've never met an American who had trouble differentiating between a check from a checkbook and the action "to check." An American would likely say "Did you check his check before cashing/depositing it?"
Of course, when SAID, I don't see any difference between English and American anyway... unless Brits say "cheque" in some crazy way I can't imagine (and not "chek").
Then there are words like tap and plug (plug the plug, tap the tap)... but that's for another day.

Get ready for all the nintendo fanboys/moderators.
Nintendo games are fun, but they're not like God smiling down from the heavens telling you you are his most perfect creation.
Case in point: Metroid Prime.
Right, but since the device is portable, you can probably interfere other people's TVs.
Also, you want to think about what it's emitting that is strong enough to appear on a TV?
Not good.
That fact that Gladiator, a really bad Ridley Scott film, is there is a sign that the excellent Blade Runner ain't gonna make the list. Though Alien is quite good as well.
I guess there have to be people, not just corporations, who believe this.

You might want to get your tin-foil hat resized at a local haberdashery.
Without a doubt, however, the environment has suffered under Bush's tenure.

When the Gamecube was released, this was obviously not true. DVD players still cost upwards of $100-$150.

Might want to re-think that math.

The guy is such a tool.
Thanks. I had set up the alley-oop and was waiting for the oop.

Or is implicit promotion of war not enough?
Very well reasoned arguments. I see your junior high debate team is preparing you well.

I like how no one considers the option of just NOT playing the game, which is one big commercial for the Army anyway.

Brillant. Simply brillant. Mod it to infinity.

Further, the new season of Family Guy will be written by the folks from "Will and Grace."
Just a couple more changes that will bring you sequels just as good as the originals.
P.S. - Disney hasn't done anything original on their own in YEARS (nay, DECADES).
Game looks pretty cool, though, but wonder if it'll work with Ut2004 for mac?
