Why should judges consider other countries' laws when deciding the laws of this country. Should we consider China's opinion on free speech, or Iran's position on freedom of religion while we're at it? The only difference between international law and Santa Claus is that rational adults believe in international law.

First off, what is the point of National ID cards? They would be great for stopping terrorism, if we knew who the terrorists were. And even if we knew, we know how effective the government is right now at stopping terrorists from getting in. How is a Taliban spokesman going to college here? I think National ID cards are an excuse to look tough on terror. Want a fun little quiz? Look at just about every terrorist attack on Americans, and tell me who commited them. Answer: Male Muslims between the ages of 18 and 40. I'm not saying that anyone fitting this description should be treated like a terrorist. I am saying that anyone who meets this description and exhibits any suspicious activity should be observed. Privacy is important, but what good is it when your going to be killed? Some enjoy the quote that those who give up liberty for security deserve neither, but they forget the context of the quote. Its those who give up liberty for a false sense of security. Ironically, the people misquoting this are the same ones against anything sacrificing privacy or anything interpreted as privacy, yet think its okay to enact gun control. Look at Nazi Germany or the USSR. Gun control worked fine there. Attack the problem at its source. If there are no terrorists, we won't have privacy taken away. Stop blaming the government because it's easy. I assure you there are no evil neocon conspiracies, and that the government is NOT designed to enslave us.

The government forgets its purpose all the time. Government is supposed to be an institution to protect our rights. How many bills today are supposed to protect our rights? Some of them just push around special interests of congressmen. The government is not the moral police. It is up to parents to determine what games their kids play. Unfortunately, there are a lot of lazy parents. But the government cannot provide the moral direction they feel is necessary. That was never its purpose, but somehow, today that has become the role of government.

Partisian politics makes everyone lose in the end. Both parties compete to be the better party, regardless of what it means for America? Who cares what the hell this bill is? My party made it, we need to pass it to be better! It doesn't help that many congressmen are motivated by greed. Politics is their career. If they don't get reelected, its over for them. They will do whatever they need to in order to get a few more votes, even if they put their country at risk. And as for the black and white, this is more of a philisophical point. Use computers as an example. Everything is a 1 or a 0. True or false. Call it whatever you want, you can call it black and white and it still works. This doesn't work with humans, instead it is right and wrong with humans. What determines which category an action falls under? Moral codes. So everything really is black and white, but what one person sees as black is white to another person.

New evidence suggests that WMDs were shipped to Syria before the war. New documents tie Al-Qaeda to Iraq and Afghanistan. Saddam sponsored several terrorist training camps, including Salman Pak, where a jetliner was found used to train terrorists for hijackings. Just because the UN says it isn't a just war doesn't mean they are right. The UN has more dictatorships than democracies as members. Saddam had broken UN resolutions, and the United States finally stood up to enforce them. Sure, the Katrina relief effort got bungled. But keep in mind, the state government was reluctant to declare a state of emergency, and the federal government cannot help until a state of emergency is declared according to my understand, although I may be wrong. We are not aiming to hurt the citizens of China, but their government. I believe that this is a good proposal, at least in theory. If all technology companies refuse to give services to China until they stop censorship, then maybe they can get enough weight on their side to get something done. But as soon as the services are offered, I have a feeling China will immediately resume censorship. And this would also require every company to cooperate, and ignore the fact that they could get a short term monopoly on the Chinese market if they go ahead and offer their service before the others. And how is it that every article on Slashdot has to resort to America bashing? If you live in America, and are ashamed to be considered an American, I'm ashamed your an American too. If you live in another country, get the facts straight. China has killed as many, if not more people, than Soviet Russia, and censors it citizens, while we give our people as many rights as possible, assuming their rights don't put the rights of another in danger. If you would like to have an intelligent conversation on this issue, feel free to. I will always welcome opposing viewpoints, assuming they do have facts to back their viewpoint, and are willing to have an intelligent conversation.

Keep in mind that all the Senators who voted to go to Iraq had all the information available to them, so they were not lied to. It is known that Saddam did have WMDs in the past. He used them against other people and his own country. He had attempted to get designs from North Korea on a long range missile. Furthermore, there is lots of data that he maintained a WMD program. Recent evidence suggests that he might have smuggled the weapons to Syria aboards civillian airliners before the war started. There is also a lot of evidence which has not yet been processed. He also was violating the treaties agreed upon at the end of the first Gulf War. Therefore, it was time to do something, as the UN showed that it had no interest in enforcing its own policies. And does anyone care that we liberated these people from a sadistic dictator? We know all about the human rights abuses he has committed, so quit whining about Gitmo. Furthermore, what we are seen is partisian politics. The democrats believe that an antiwar position will aide them in the next election, so they take that position. National security is being put down on the priority list so some Senators can be re-elected. And you cannot negotiate with terrorists. Negotiation didn't work in the Cold War, why would it work now?
