The BF2142 situation got blown out of proportion.
Remember the first Slashdot articles about it were basically that they collect your personal information and give it to the advertisers, it was not true and the developers came out to even discuss. Of course Slashdot never had the followup article and allow the team to answer some of those points, so they were backed into a corner and the fud had already tainted the game. It was more fear mongering with the privacy info that got everybody worked up and a lot decided that the ads would be annoying, even though they never played the game.

I played BF2142 and still do sometimes, it is everything that BF2 should have had with the commander and squad system the way it was setup. The ads if you played the game well you wouldn't have even noticed them the boards were spread out so far on the huge maps. Not only that but the developers even said they made the images on the board to look a little worn and blend in with the environment. All in all none of the ads have changed in the game since BF2142 was released and it is an even better game with the following patches, I think the real gamers complained more about the lag in the Titan servers than than some of the outside trolls who were just coming back to get back at EA the company.
Others might have a different opinion of what 'sticks out like a sore thumb' but I think you really should view the in-game screenshots/videos of gameplay showing one of the billboards in the background, you really don't even notice it when you have a hovering tank and a Walker(think Star Wars) chasing you down on your speeder. Game was as close to Star Wars as you are gonna get with the full Battlefield feel of the game.

Cable DVR's are some of the simplest functioning and POS you can get.

The thing which makes me like TIVO is that it automatically skips the commercials, that was the deal breaker right there that made me want to get it. Although I never did and stuck with the DVR, I have no problem having to manually fastforward about 4 times in a show only takes me 3 seconds.

VOD(Video On Demand) is the real TIVO killer for me though, cable has got the advantage on this one and unfortunately Sat users cannot have the 'true VOD'. The VOD library that TWC has for me is huge, the shows begin to show up in the library the very next day with no commercials at all with them. Each month they change the lineup so you get maybe all of Season 1 that month and season 2 next month; newscast are put up there within an hour and many other free VOD channels for all your favorite channels. Seriously VOD killed the hard drive, the music video will be out anytime soon on MTV(errrr Youtube).

Unfortunately they will soon begin to integrate the advertisements into the actual show while you are watching it, fuck give me a break.

The trays could even be equipped with weigh machines that tell how heavy it is, so that when you take out something it registers it with rfid and than when you put it back in the tray will weigh how much you used of that. I have Vista and it runs fine but not at the release, but I choose to run XP to get that extra 10-15 fps even though it barely feels different. I am a PC gamer and was there for the fiasco that Vista was, with punkbuster never working right, bad drivers, slow fps and overall incompatibility with certain hardware. I can tell you as a real gamer and not the Tux Racing gamers around here that vast majority of the problems have been solved. It is very simple, hardware gets cheaper and over time the specs will catch up to Vista; I loathe the expensive Vista laptops my buddies have because it runs great but I am not gonna spend that kind of money until it gets cheaper like anything.

Go to Fatwallet.com/Slickdeals.net to look for a good gaming rig and get an honest opinion on what you get for your money, these guys are the experts at bang per buck. Your best bet for a good gaming rig that is cheap is to wait for a deal to popup checking everyday, sometimes it is a price mistake you might get a $400 laptop or other price matches.

Go visit any gaming forum and you would have seen the massive problems with Vista and games in the beginning, over time these complaints have dissipated and things are running normally again. The hardware makers and gaming companies took notice to the complaints over Vista and stepped it up with more support.

The article is kind of crap as it describes to use 64bit Vista but any gamer knows that is a stupid move right now for majority of games, also the gaming site is from .AU and no offense to the Australians but they have the most draconian prices for hardware, software, ISP and everything around there goes against Silicon Valley(whatever that means); not very credible.

    What movie buffs?
You mean the people that have gotten sick of going to the theater to cough out $50 by the end of the night. The movie theaters are moving into our living rooms and there have been countless experts predicting that HDTV sales will rise this season although by only single digit percentages.

The hardware gets cheaper and so do the movies over time, it is very simple. Listen bookmark this post and look back at it in 5 years, when majority of people and Blockbuster(if they don't go bankrupt by than) only stocks Blu-Ray. History repeating itself, other than that it is more of 'put your money where your mouth is' if you think that product will take over Blu-Ray. I doubt customers/investors will trust Samsung as much anymore since they have lost faith in their HD-DVD product and screwed over a lot of buyers, stocks of HD-DVDs are not replenished with Netflix.

Until HDTV with 36"-42" get within the $500 range than I might buy, they are getting pretty damn close and compared with having to pay for movies/gas/candy/parking/crowds than the alternative home theater is looking more appealing. I don't own either a Blu-Ray or HDTV but my friends do and that is where we all wanna go to have a good time or watch sports games/movies.

I always thought that would be a good idea to put a radio tag implanted in them randomly if they were a high opportunity target and than fly over the city with a helicopter until you get close to it after the kidnapping. Like tracking a bear in the wild or something.

Kidnappings in Mexico are on the rise and they are even trying to kidnap people in Arizona across the border. There really are no other solid solutions to this problem, although I can see limbs being chopped off because they think theres a radio transmitter.
