Mars was once much warmer (probably had large liquid oceans), and has since cooled considerably, though during the Martian summer it can reach temps of 70 degrees (F) near the equator.
I second the backpack idea.

I've got one of thier older backpacks that's similar to that one, and I couldn't be happier with it. After 2 semesters with my 15 inch laptop and a calc book or two I've seen no rips or tears, usually I go through a backpack every semester or so. Its reinforced like crazy, the straps have elastic on em and are extremely well padded. The top handle (usually the 1st thing to go) is reinforced by a steel cable. No zipper jams at all in about a year. has a very handy top pocket for PDAs, phones, and the like. I've even dropped it once from 5 feet or so, and several from less, with no real damage to anything inside.
Speaking from experience, a good chunk of people who take high school programming classes are in there simply because they think they can surf the internet for an hour, like you can in most other HS computer classes. I started my Junior year with Java, and by the time I graduated I had also learned C++, PHP, and HTML. Definetly gave me a leg up when I started college last year.
I thought it would be great to have a laptop for college. So I saved up my nickels, dimes, and graduation money and bought one. Not the best idea. I found out quickly that I would simply spend class surfing the web instead of paying attention.
I'm also a student and recently faced something similar. I was making pretty good money (for a college kid) working in the mind-numbing field of phone surveys for a well known company. Last semester I got offered a job as a teaching assistant at my University. I was working somewhere with a great atmosphere, great pay, doing work that made me want to rip my hair out. The new position paid just slightly better than McDonalds, but actually offered interesting work, and would look great on my resume. I decided to leave phone survey world, and I couldn't be happier. I don't come home from work stressed out anymore. I'm even more broke than before, but it's definetly worth it.
I'm sure IE7 won't take much away from Firefox, at least on XP, but when people upgrade to Longhorn they will probably go back to IE.
Why? Because most of the people I know that use firefox have it only because people like me get sick of wiping viruses and spyware from thier boxes, so we download FFox, delete thier IE icons, and tell them "You use this for the internet now". Then they smile and nod, and most of them will never know they're using anything different.
When/If Longhorn comes out, people will click on the shiny blue "Internet 7" icon and go back to using IE untill we reinstall Firefox.
I've had several occasions where I have needed to get around iTMS's DRM, the most prevailent one being that you can't convert DRMed AACs into other formats.
I was in a (very crappy) film class last year at my local public high school. Being a public school the best video editing software they could afford was Windows Movie Maker. Unfortunately, movie maker (and probabaly most other video editors) won't let you use AACs, and you cant convert a DRMed AAC to another format that movie maker will accept. So I either had to go out and buy another copy of the music or break the DRM. Guess which one I did.
You are too educated stupid to understand nature's zero sided nullity.

This isn't nessecarily a bad thing. When you have a group of crazy people who want change, it makes the non-crazies who want change look a lot better.

Wow, have you heard of this magical thing called sarcasm?
I'd say any day you come to /. is a good day to be color blind.

In other news, scientists have also found that not going to work makes IT more enjoyable
It must be pretty hard to "not count" 4500 votes. Even I can write that code....
if(vote == "Bush")
bushVotes++;
else if(vote == "Kerry")
kerryVotes++;
else
noChance++;
It will actually help conduct electriciy, provding a much larger shock area!
Try one of these
In this age of cameras, no. Unfotunately, the cameras ont there were designed quite awhile ago. IIRC, they're .5 megapixel cameras.
People are dying, yet you have the time to troll slashdot.
Toothpaste for dinner is awesome. Bought the book today, its great
I've set up samba shares before, and it wasn't that fun. I don't think it would be to fun at parties, though I could be wrong...
If in game crime is real crime, I hope the cops don't catch me playing GTA. I killed a few hookers in there today.

I suppose you cut just burn your packets on CDs and drive down to your ISP with them, but think of how high your ping would be!
And why exactly do you need firefox open for a week at a time? No matter how much ram/cpu you have, you should still reboot occasionally.
