many jobs are paid either bi-montly or on alternating weeks (aka the 15th & the 30th or once every other fridayl monday, whatever). getting paid monthly makes budgeting harder, and you cringe more when you see the amt that left in taxes... it's not the end of the world, if you're responsible, but it sucks, cuz you have to be more responsible.
ummm... considering there's a substantial sub-genre directed at girls i wouldn't sound so shocked if I were you...
Chobits, Ranma 1/2, Ah my Goddess! (haven't actually read that one, going on reputation) and a whole lot more are all directed towards female audiences.
Welcome to a world where women can be geeks too. We're glad to see you could join us.;)
Of course, that ignores the fact Apple never did anything to improve the looks of X11. It looks just the same as when I launch it in any other *nix. Apple doesn't even really want you USING it. They'd rather you stayed in pretty aqua-land, and, personally, I'm perfectly happy to do that.
surely it takes longer to switch to the 3rd window that's running than it does the second? that's what they're referring to, not delay in switching once, but the delay caused by multiple switches. More apps = longer time before the same app is re-selected. At certain instances in time, different applications are selected, based on what's launched.;)
Perhaps the most common and useful way to categorize programming languages is by paradigm. A paradigm describes the overall structure and architecture of a language. Some paradigms:
Production Systems (also called RuleBased:
Ops5,Clips,Flora
Dataflow
my point?
HTML IS TOO A PROGRAMMING LANGUAGE!
Also, to get back on topic, I think teaching your mom html is a wonderful idea.:)
some other ideas are things like basic, or if you're feeling brave, python can be nice in that it's relatively readable, and a bit easier to get instant gratification out of then some of the more complex "real" languages.
YES, I wish I could do this SOOO much! All my mp3's are stored on my boyfriends tower since he's got 200 some gigs to my 40, but he doesn't like them in his main library (he's big on the hit random and go idea), so he unchecks them. I can't add them to a playlist on MY machine, so I can't listen to my music. MOST annoying. I don't want to store it locally, I just wanna listen to it.

*sigh* he loves the computer more than me. Good thing I've got a comp of my own!;)
oye. you're telling me that in order to use windows "safely" I need a different USER for every application I want to run? That just seems... ridiculous. I consider myself a competent computer user, and I'd have no clue how to set myself up to do this, let alone how to explain to my family how to do so. that's an unreasonable expectation of the user, to say the least.
iMac 700 G4 flat panel combo drive and everything seems fine... reboot even seemed a little faster, but that's probably 'cuz I haven't rebooted in a month.;)
heh, yeah, I had a mess of flying barbarians last month, but they didn't surive long enough to do much... Even more amusing are walls wearing equiptment.:D "grr! my bloodwall... with GAUNTLETS sticking out will... WAVE at you!"
also referred to as NAND gates as the grandparent post already stated.;) 3, count em 3, transistors to make a nand. wire both inputs to the same signal and you've got an inverter! any SoP circuit can be converted to all NAND gates to save space on the chip, and PoS can simlilarly be converted to NOR circuits. and now, having fully DESTROYED the joke that started all this, we return you to your regularly scheduled slashdot discussion.
...and then of course, there's those of us who just play because it's fun. Who never attend tournaments, and who collect for the bragging rights, not the deck power. It's not all about winning guys, remember this IS a hobby, meant for FUN;)
Actually it's more like monitoring a library to make sure the patrons don't burn the books. Or slip Playboys into "Run Spot Run". There are definite reasons to monitor computer usage, number one being I bet the cyber-cafe can be held liable for anything their patrons do on their machines. Number two, as someone above mentioned: it's their business, and their rules. There are video cameras in your grocery store, in your book store, in your department store, probably even in your coffee shop. why should this be different? Gotta face the facts, they're watching everything we do;) *removes tinfoil hat*
educational espionage? Honestly, that's the best guess I can come up with...
So, I compile a database of publicly available (although copywritten) information (ie magic card texts)... do I now hold a copywrite to the information IN that database(wizards isn't gonna be pleased w/ me then...)? Or to the database itself... if I change it, do I still hold the copywrite to prior versions of the db? this just isn't making any sense to me...
scary part is... someone's THIS excited about a TV commertial. C'mon guys, they're just ads. Yeah, it's kinda amusing to get sued kids to pimp the iTunes store, but really, it's a big "see? I learned what I did was wrong and now I BUY my music" message. RIAA are likely overjoyed.
Ah, another satisfied Stocktonian ;) (not that I disagree!)

so THAT'S why my buddy likes us to hang around! We're all more broke than him so it makes his wife feel bad!!!
I believe 40k is a reference to a year, not a version number, as the prior one is simply Warhammer ;)
my school does... "one port per pillow" and they threaten to take you off the net if you plug a hub or router in (if they catch you).

are you sure? I used VLC to play WMA for awhile 'cuz a friend of mine HAD to have me listen to something & it was windows Media or bust. :/
None the less, it played flawlessly, even on the out-of-date version of VLC that lives in my Applications folder growing cobwebs

that's quite a punchline you have there... how do you overturn a law that enacts a rule that says you can't overturn it??
