  1. Death by Character Creation on FASA Studios Now Out of Business · · Score: 1

In addition to Traveller, West End Games' DC Universe RPG (not to be confused with the years earlier Mayfair's DC Heroes RPG) also featured death by character creation.

If you had Superspeed, and therefore were attuned to the Speed Force, there was a slim chance you would be sucked into the Speed Force before you even got to play the game.

Not like you couldn't just roll up the exact same thing minutes later.

  6. Dell Support needs OVERHAUL if they sell non-PCs on Dell Rethinking the Direct-Sales Market · · Score: 2, Interesting

Every time I call Dell service, I get some guy who requests a number from my PC.

    I OWN TWO DELL MONITORS

Actually, I did buy a PC on my account, but I bought it for my parents and it is 7 states away.

So when I call in for technical support for my monitors, one of which had a short circuit last weekend, it takes at least an hour to even begin actioning the call. I have to explain that this is in no way related to the computer that I don't actually OWN, and it relates to DELL monitors that are not associated with a DELL computer in any way, shape or form.

It was like pulling teeth. They did replace the monitor though; with one that has a large line of dead pixels straight down the middle. So they're replacing that one too. :( And once you open up an action, they won't stop calling you with updates. And the guys on the other end are telling you to "wait 5 minutes" and then you say "Ok" and they tell you to "wait 5 minutes" and you agree and they tell you to "wait 5 minutes" and then you say "I will wait 5 minutes" and then they finally put you on hold.

    Pain in the ass.

  13. My Lunar Dust Experience on Lunar Dustbusters · · Score: 1

My dad used to work at a company on Long Island that had a spacesuit on display in the hallways, back in the mid-80's. I saw it on many a company tour.

When I later joined as a summer intern, I noticed that the suit was no longer on display; it was missing from the building entirely. I found out that NASA had given the suit, but took it back once they realized that they had never cleaned the space dust off the suit.

Maybe my exposure is why I have asthma. :-)

  15. Re:Environmental Impact: Scotland the Wave on Scotland Building Wave Power Farms · · Score: 2, Informative

Is no one concerned about the potential impact this will have, by providing a drag on the waves that would else naturally strike the coast...?

IANAS, but (1) there's not enough of these to have any forseeable impact at the moment and (2) ocean movement energy is supplied by the tides, which are powered by gravitational forces between the earth, sun and the moon. So if anything, this is solar power. :D

Project Wonderful - they have image-based advertising and are currently all over the comic book and game websites. The revenue passed through them is really unbelievable and they are working on a bidding model - you bid on when you want your ad to appear and you manage your ads yourself. So if, say a new blog post is released, you want your ad up then; you bid it up, but only for that time period. You don't pay for any advertising time that you are not displayed. It seems to be an extremely "fair" model.
