Coke announcing machines that would raise prices in summer (instead of saying that the machines would reduce prices in winter). Its a marketing classic!
In addition to VxWorks' reliability, the system allows users to add software patches -- such as a glitch fix or upgrade -- without interruption while a mission is in flight. "We've always had that [feature] so you don't have to shut down, reload and restart after every patch," Blackman said, adding that some commercial desktop systems require users to reboot their computers after a patch
The bold emphasis is mine but that is a big Ouch for Microsoft.
RAD6000 microprocessors are radiation-hardened versions of the PowerPC chips that powered Macintosh computers in the early 1990s
Shouldn't Apple be using this in their commercials somehow to further boost their reliability. I am sure the PR market can put it in a way that non-geeks watching tv can relate, right?
This might be the case of butterflies in stomach before the expected Google IPO. They might want to portray a little 'not so soft' image implying that they can put up a fight in the big corporate world of patent/trademark slinging giants.
I love Google like most of you all out there but going public is ought to have bittersweet consequences. Methinks.
I am not sure if the following can be done but things are getting a little too annoying.
SCO still has the 250K bounty for the MyDoom creator. Let us all start digging around for clues and have a central repository somewhere for the info gathered. Finally, if we can really trace the idiot down, Slashdot.org (cmdrTaco??) can ask for the 250K check from Darl. Start an Ask Slashdot thread about the ideas that we should look into patenting that are already out there but haven't been patented yet. Highest moderated ideas get a consideration. The money can be used to file the patents/lawyer fees/misc etc.
What does this do? Give more assurance to the rest of the world that OSS is not a bad community and we did help in tracking down the creator of MyDoom sucker. Get money from SCO!! And importantly, if we do get the patents, leave them in the open to be used (not abused).
Am I talking out of my a$$? Probably yes. But SCO, MyDoom, Patent Office et al are getting too irritating.
Princess Diana, for one, would have been very happy to see this development. Although her calling a ban on international landmines sparked a row as it was out of sync with the government policy.
Starting a software company sounds like a neat idea but is easier said than done. When you are unemployed, the primary focus is finding a way of paying those rising bills. Starting a company is not going to solve that right away. It takes quite a bit of time before you get into the profit making green zone.
Also, software company is about having an idea that would make for a good software. When hunger strikes and you are driving down a freeway, you are not looking for a gourmet restaurant. Any fast food joint does it for you.
That means the lower court's decision will stand, at least until another eventual appeal takes the case to Norway's supreme court.
I would not be surprised if these big corps take it back to the supreme court. Their army of lawyers can always make something up.
Hats off to DVD-Jon though!
Totally agree. The 1998 Best Picture category was definitely a tough one. IMHO, LA Confidential is probably one of the best movies of all time. How Titanic beat it is still beyond me.
One of the big gripes about eBooks is that they don't quite keep up with the convenience of curling up on a couch next to a fireplace (and all you folks with hot weather, think of something to curl up next to) with a regular paper-book. With a foldable display, I am sure it would make things easier. Now, only if they can add the voice activated page flipping, that would be awesome!
Just because of their job-titles they must be building something cool Chief Hackberry, Chief Wiseberry, Chief Smartberry

Can we ask Mars Express to take a walk to the other side and let the Spirit Rover take a sip or two from its water bottle? You know, it kinda gets hot during the day there and the rover is tired.
Atleast this burglary in their own (political) backyard should make them think twice with the SERVE voting system that Defense Dept is so keen on accepting
I remember one too.

When Microsoft launched the Xbox in 2001 for $299, it reportedly lost $100 for every unit it sold.
I know this is
Of course you did not RTFA.

Ohhhh. Now it all makes sense. That explains a lot of no-audio videos found on Booble.

Definitely one of the better use of genetics.
For me, this was definitely a "Do you remember where you were when this happened?" moment. It comes as a punch in stomach.
May God rest their brave souls in peace.

With the Euro on the rise compared to USD, its going to eat a little more of that 50Billion USD pile that M$ is sitting on. Ouch.
Could be due to a lot of people just checking out sco.com out of curiosity too.
Also, it would not surprise me that SCO people took it offline just to get some sympathy/good PR.
Note that the DDoS attack is timed to be performed between 1st and 12th Feb, 2004.

Mars ISP finally cut him off the network. That rover was transmitting a lot of data.

Slashdot covered the SERVE story earlier.
If this is not bullying, then I am not sure what is.
