r_displayRefresh 75 should get you 75 Hz. The shadow option is in the advanced video section. Turning them off and on does not require a vid_restart either. I have shadows on and shadows off on hot keys for areas that REALLY need shadows off (some boss fights especially the last) and play with them on the rest of the game.:)
They probably used DirectSound and DirectInput. No reason not to use the simpler solution to get the cash-cow Windows port out on store shelves THEN work on the devil that is porting to Linux.
Playing sounds is A LOT simpler than graphics. That's why the DirectX SDK is FULL of graphics examples and documentation while audio has only a few that cover nearly everything one would need to know to get sounds playing with positional effects and whatnot.
The firewall has an exception for File and Printer Sharing that may be on be default in the presence of shared files and printers. If someone actually has files and printers shared, the ports would NEED to be open for other members of their network to get to them. If they are open without a real router between them and the internet, there's going to be a problem.
By default, the firewall should be setting it to subnet only to prevent internet access to the ports, but it appears it carried over configuration data from SP1 and applied them to ALL adapters. The scope of the exceptions can be changed in the firewall configuration applet.
Aren't all weapons used for the purpose of killing an assault weapon? Make no mistake, the only reason reason the "assault weapons ban" lasted the full 10 years was because it left in so many loopholes that it was hardly even effective.
There's nothing in the second amendment that specifies what kind of firearms are permitted or that the government can even exclude any. I really don't think it's unreasonable that someone should be able to own a non-automatic version of an assault rifle. It's certainl not "ludicrous" as you call it. The only reason police can't handle people possessing such weapons is that the government is afraid if they gave the police automatic weapons, they'd be stolen out of the police car trunks:P
Open Office is not defunct. They changed the official *trademark* to OpenOffice.org to avoid possible legal trouble. I don't see using the old name (or maybe internally used name?) in their agreement as a problem.
Maybe you're mostly paying for the other stuff. If you don't find any value in the other parts of the service, you probably shouldn't use the service at all.
The situation is similar to buying a $4000 PC just for the $1000 RAID array it comes with and leaving the rest unused.:P
GPL is on the SOURCE CODE. The End User License Agreement is for the PRODUCT. Software under an EULA generally doesn't give you any rights to the source code which falls under copyright law. You get to use the product and that's it. They are both licenses but on different ends of the software.
The layer of dead skin blocks it outright. The radiation can only travel 25 micrometers through most liquids.
You'll notice they were all photoshopped Michael Moores!
You do realize that a gf2 pro is quite a bit below minimum spec, right? :P
I found it to be a welcome change from the usual "blow away waves of monsters" fps games. Ofc, I like be startled by screaming imps ;p

Illegal trespass is illegal trespass. Various people have in fact gone to court and lost for "informing people of their systems' vulnerabilities."
Printer ink and paper cost money.
Fireworks is apparently poorly designed :p

There are factors other than overall health care that are dragging down average US life expectancy.
Most all semi-automatic assault weapons and even some non-assault weapons were banned in 1994. The ban expires tomorrow.
Due the difference in the way they work, LCDs do not need high refresh rates to avoid user eye-strain.
But that doesn't stop news agencies from calling states before they are finished voting and (possibly) swaying the election.
The same Sierra club that will take millions of dollars in exchange for not continuing to file lawsuits against the construction of power plants?
They probably expect people to fill it up slowly with E-MAIL rather than uploading their pr0n collections etc.
It's invite only because it's not done yet. ;p
Isn't HP's UNIX also closed?
Kinda hard to blame them for stealing good ideas that people now think should've been in Windows all along.

It's a $699 will not sue you over Linux license.
US-CERT is not the US government =)
