    Ease of use, just until you want to compile practically anything at all.

    my Mandy 10.1 compiled out of the box nvidia kernel modules, latest k3b, qlo10k1 and heaps of other software. i think you have problem between chair and keyboard :-)

    DOSEMU stands for DOS Emulation, and allows you to run DOS and many DOS programs, including many DPMI applications such as DOOM and Windows 3.1, under Linux.

    amen to that. Firefox without shitload of extensions (btw that gets broken now and then after Firefox gets updated) doesnt even stand close to Opera. with extensions its closer but not even :-P

    Opera is very powerful browser for power users. iLoveIt :-)

    Opera rocks! using it from version 5 on win to 7.54 on mandrake :-) Firefox don't even stand close. mail, notes, links, irc, info... in one small package. and fast. small memory print. while there is REAL concurrency closed source rocks too :-)

    it is slower. but i can use Opera with all settings, bookmarks, mail, notes, contacts, history intact. no need for exporting all that and importing on win box. and when monitor is repaired importing back again...

    But who uses remote X or VNC anyway? Right now best unix remote interface is CLI and that is it. What for you need to login to X remotly anyway? Tu run web browser? You can run it localy.

    real example: on my to internet connected Mandrake box died monitor. so i'm running vncserver on it. i'm posting this through TightVNC Viewer from my WinXP box in the same room. until i get new monitor or repair broken - VNC is priceless.

    it's all about configuration and 100mhz FSB :-) under WinXP ffdshow codec and Media Player Classic or VLC and under Mandrake xine. MPlayer is slow as hell. Geforce FX and Audigy helps too :-)

    my 350mhz p2 box is very quite usable in XP and even Mandrake. plays dvds, xvids, divxs, nicely runs playstation emus... long live p2! :-)

    on my p2 350mhz with 128mb ram quake 3 runs perfectly at 800x600 with all maxed out. video is geforce fx 5200 agp with 128mb ram. he really misconfigured something.

    from This site - Vampire: The Masquerade, which is based on Half-Life 2's Source engine is also reported to have the same stuttering issues.
