same here. 8MB RAGE PRO, 8MB RAGE128, laptop with Radeon RS200M... ATi software and drivers are one big mess. since i'm converting my main box to Mandrake and OpenGL is a must - GeForce FX it is:-)
and what good from faster performance if drivers and software is super buggy? i choose slower but more stable and less glitchy solution.
And Doom3 is gonna break *records* eh? In what, genre repetition?
all dooms and quakes are id graphics engines demos. tahts all. in doom3 again we must search stupid keys for stupid doors blah blah... and this time there will be even STORYLINE! and now with 1000x times more scaryer polygons!
really interesting games will come later (just like with doom and quake). on doom3 engine...

on what planet "out there"? even 3 years old PCs with good video card are more powerful than PS2 with so called "emotion engine" and another marketing blabla

Recently a great many parents have come to harbour self-centered desires. They claim that schools should give their children not only education but also some very essential discipline.
That's a terrible problem. In my opinion, parents are responsible for home training, and they have to raise their kids to be "human beings" before they enter school. Apparently, some parents do not understand this.
Methinks the only real reason you'd want to keep your drivers closed off is because you're artificially handicapping your hardware to increase differentials between various (actually fairly identical) cards you've got on the market.
SoftQuadro anyone? btw i upgraded my FX 5200 to Quadro FX 500. in professional 3D apps (only OpenGL of course) performance goes up at least 2x...
nVidia is the lesser of two evils to be sure, so they get my money (that and the awful ATi driver issues with Windows XP, but that's a different story) for now
my money too. i'm sick of crappy ATi drivers and software. and that's why my new card is GeForce FX. and imho nVidia GPU design is much better too:-)
