Any other children of the 80's have a whacky way to get their Nintendo to start working?
This worked for me quite often: A swift, deliberate blow with two fingers (middle and ring) in the direct center of the top of the NES console. I would say it was 95% effective 70% of the time.
What's to stop a few people from plagiarising (directly or indirectly) a bunch of articles on the most popular subjects as soon as this service opens?
Probably nothing. And given two pages with very similar content, the original source, and the "knol'ed" source - guess which one will have a better pagerank? The one that will bring Google a few cents.
Trying to help out here... Your server performance would be much better if:
1)..you do not have 3 1/2 MB of images on the landing page of your blog 2)..you do not host any mission critical website on the same server as site mentioned in point 1 above. 3)..you do not post your mission critical websites on slashdot.
Hope this helps.. please be more careful in the future.
So what is this, some kind of new meta-discussion feature where Slashdot editors dig through some story and haul out lame comments that they think highlight the story. Whatever. Sounds stupid to me...
I know your joking a bit.. but if you hadn't noticed, there's an unofficial digg vs. slashdot thing that has been going on for some time now. This is/.'s response to digg./. says "we have intelligent conversation here.. look at these great comments that make your/. visit worhtwhile".
Isn't competition grand? If it weren't for digg, we'd still be looking at a nearly 10 year old/. design.
I wonder if power-line internet service offerings will feature "install yourself" kits? Perhaps this is one of the things keeping power-line internet from taking off - the installation procedure could be a bit tricky?
Crucial? What are you, simple? Crucial comes up with their prices by taking the lowest price on pricewatch and doubling it. They feel they can charge that much for their "drop down" wizards.;-)
Some people say spammers don't clean up their lists of email addresses of the ones that bounce.
If this is true, then why would they bother with confirming that each address is "live"?
I believe that a very small majority of spammers go through with the efforts of tracking their "spamees". What incentive do they have to clean up their e-mail lists? Why take a chance of eliminating any possible "spamees"? Do they really care if they send out 500,000 spams instead of 750,000 spams? Of course not.
Article states that many embedded systems still prefer to use it because of heat/power requirements.
Yep.. I can attest to that. I have a 400 Pentium II Dell Dimension that was shipped with only a heat sink. No fans on the CPU whatsover. It's quiet as can be. I use it for squid, mail, webserver, file server, you name it. Wow.. I guess it will be 7 years old in a few months.
..if GmailFS becomes real, Gmail would become unsustainable..
Joe sixpack and Stacy no-brain are not going to be using GmailFS. If all gmail users on slashdot were to implement GmailFS, it would still be a small drop in the bucket of their total user base. Even if Google is aware of this use of their Gmail services, they may overlook it because:

Win-amp? Sounds fancy. I am still using Winplay3 on my Packard Bell 90 Mhz Pentium.

Just shim up the front of the keyboard. Problem solved. ;)
Perhaps he did not know what search criteria to use.

Rumor, probably, but here you go.
That would work great if people used that consistently, but they don't.
:)
You are correct. It is best to just avoid the phrase whenever possible. Especially in an editorial environment. Ahem.
If someone were to say "Next January", that would mean January 2007. If one intends to imply January 2006, simply "January" would suffice.

This guy has a pictoral on how he fixed up his nano screen with Brasso. Pretty amazing stuff, if it's legit.

Want a nano? Find 5 others that want a nano too, and you're all set.

Very tall towers. :) I'll let someone else do the math.

I'm glad you asked:
Sweet Marias.
I have ordered from them on three occasions. They have a review on everything they sell which describes in great detail on what each tastes like.
I use the Heat Gun/Dog Bowl method of roasting myself. Works every time.

You were more verbose, perhaps?

Bah.. they should build their characters & sets out of Lego.

More like, "which one should I short?"
Heh.. yep, you are correct. That's pretty much a crap extension.
Behold.. Windows Update Extension for Firefox.
Enjoy!
Here ya go:

It may not be worth their time/money to block
They want to remain "holy" in the geek community
