Dude, there's better deals out there. CompGeeks often runs some killer deals. I got my dad a 2 GHz Pent IV (IIRC) for around $300 + $20 for shipping. Yeah, that one comes with a moniter, but you can get one of those on there too for less than $50. I think I'll just skip the AOHell.
Some people do programming projects because they enjoy them, not everyone requires payment. Just like some people participate in sports for enjoyment (though in this country that is declining), not everyone requires a 10 mil salary just to play sports.
I wish more people would think this way. Do what you love, and if you get paid for it, great! But those that are motivated by money alone usually reflect it in their work (i.e. Microsoft).
Thanks nmb3000. It's been a stressful week. I needed that. I think I will print this list off and send it out as a policy letter. Unfortunately, most of the people at my company wouldn't see the sarcasm and actually try some of these things.
I dropped my HP Pavilion ze4365 laptop 3 feet onto a concrete floor while it was running. The cd tray popped out and the corner of the screen cracked, but I'm typing on it right now. It's all good except for that damn screen crack.
I just tell everyone it has a black eye. I've dropped it a few times since then, with no other affects. (This is why I don't have nice things). I highly recommend HP laptops for (ab)users like me.
Dude, if it came down to a nuclear war, I'm pretty sure Wikipedia is going to be the last thing on everyone's mind.

No, I'm not new here, I know how this shit works. And you know there are exceptions to every rule. My reference was mostly made to the comparison people, and the ones who love to pretend that they're in a gang because they use a certain OS.
If you read through every -1 post, then you'd probably also notice that they're all Anonymous Cowards, much like yourself. So your point that none of them are known Linux users is moot.
Finally, I will agree, whoever mods me as insightful, does indeed need to have themselves examined. Or maybe they were in the process of examining themselves and hit the "Moderate" button by accident. Anyway, I'm not sure why I'm responding to an AC. I'll be sure to put that on my 'NOT to do" list for next time.

What is it with the "Slashdot Scene" that the mere mention of *BSD invokes insults from every corner. I can see this coming from the Microsoft crowd, but from FOSS advocates?
Come on people, it's not like you pay for it! It's just as free as Linux! Each serve their purpose. Now, if you can't say anything positive, don't say anything at all.
I started reading/. on a regular basis when I was stationed in Kosovo with the Army. But now I frequently read it with Lynx through an SSH connection to my OpenBSD web server at work, so it looks like I'm actually working.
I just saw TMBG in concert last weekend and they were a blast. Just to show you how cool they were, they were selling their new CD "The Spine" two days before its official release which was apparently a no-no, because they told all the bloggers to keep quiet about it. So here I am blabbing about it like a dumbass. But hey, it's just unsubstantiated gossip. Don't mind me.
I guess a lot of blind people regularly visit the website of a cinema-chain...
FROM ODEON'S WEBSITE:
Please note that ODEON also utilises audio description technology in certain cinemas. An audio described performance is a standard screening with audio description available through headsets on request. Audio description is undetectable to anyone else in the auditorium not using a headset.
On a related note, I will also be accepting items for recycling. The only stipulation is that they brand new with receipts. And no refurbished crap either - the, uh, recyclers hate that stuff.
I'm in the National Guard and I've played with the MILES gear before. I hate it. Mostly because mine never works right... Then again, they might be doing that to me on purpose... Come to think of it, they do make me wear that big red bullseye and walk in front of the group everywhere we go... Hey!
Looking through it, I'm failing to see where open source browsers can not view the contents. Was the submitter referring to the Shockwave player? Cause, uh... It's working fine in Firefox.
Really, I would care less about credit, especially if I was taking it for free. Isn't it enough to receive course material for free? Personally, I love college, and not just the "college" aspect of it (though that's great too) but the learning aspect of it.
I always hated high school, but for some reason, when I got to college, lerning became fun! Holy hell, if my past self heard my present self, I would be kicking my ass, but it's true.
Something like this where I could go online and take a course, leisurly, not worrying about grades sounds like fun. Sign me up!
I am somewhere between newbie and novice when it comes to *nix. When I decided I needed a good secure operating system for my job to put their web server on, I realized that I didn't know or want to learn all the steps it takes to secure Linux.
So I decided on OpenBSD (that whole "secure by default" thing kinda enticed me). I picked up a copy of "Secure Architectures with OpenBSD" and went to work. Well, then I realized that it probably would have been faster to learn the steps to securing Linux, but I am really liking OpenBSD so far.
I can honestly say, installation was incredibly easy once I RTFM, and I'm finding it is that way with most stuff. And the things that I have hit snags on (making PHP and MySQL play nice together) have been resolved by a few posts to misc@openbsd.org.
And OpenBSD's clean filesystem makes it a lot easier to learn Unix than other OSs.
Oh, and did I mention that Ports and Packages kick ass?
When the intruder stepped on the wire, it triggered the cassette player, which played a tape shouting, "There's a thief!". It also activated the camera, which would take a picture of the burglar.
"Damn it Ali, your cart-alarm is going off again! There's people trying to sleep!"
I'm an intern at my company. But I hardly intern. I'm the only IT/Sys Admin here. Everything has been outsourced to other companies until now. Get the hint that they're cheap? I don't even get a cubicle. I get the end of a desk by the secratary. Now how the hell am I supposed surf porn like this?
Sweet! The band Bad Religion have a song called "10 in 2010"! Although I don't think this is what they were talking about.
Will SuSE still work if I install SP2? I don't see it on the list, so I was just curious...

I think, rather, they meant "can't be easily removed." That makes more sense anyway.

The first version of OpenBSD was released as OpenBSD 2.0
