That's what I thought to, but look at the news stories refered: all of them use the word 'hobbit'! As another poster pointed out, the anthropologists probably did this to capitalize on the LotR fame.
Interesting look at Slashdot categorization. Apart from "Hardware", the two stories don't share a single category! This one is marked Programming (?!) and Hardware, while the other got Hardware, Technology, Technology (Apple) and IT.
I'm from the National Univesity of Singapore, and we have a system called IVLE. Click on "IVLE Web tutorials" to have a look around. They've made this into a commercial product, and are now selling it to other colleges and Unis.
