I would buy more of these discs if it were not for the stupid DRM fears. I have a decent sounding system when the tone is set right, but I have to go analog only to my reciever, which does not allow bass/treble settings on the 5.1 analog inputs. Hmmm no 5.1 compatible EQ's on the market...
I'm sure somebody with a better receiver doesn't have this issue, but I do.
FWIW, Dark Side of the Moon ROCKS on SACD. (once you get over the overly flat sound quality)
I prefer DVD-audio because having minimal graphics on the screen is nicer than a blank screen.
I think this plan has failed before with the PC hardware, but what about just the software?
Imagine AOL with a custom distro of Linux. Keep in mind the enormous CD distribution that AOL has before you flame me...
Most users do not differentiate AOL from the internet, so why not just dual boot into AOLinux. The average Joe would stop using Windows because they only use AOL anyway. This plan could work as long as it installed as a dual boot to allow people to continue playing games and using create-a-card software on the Windows partition. Better yet, get WINE working seamlessly so that they can use the kids educational/entertainment software. Most people I know would not dream of ditching Windows because they allow the PC to be a babysitter.
What do you think? Could AOL, who probably doesn't have any fans here, sway the sheep to make a bunch of geeks' dreams come true?
Attorney David Boies of New York agreed to cap the overall cost of SCO's lawsuits to $31 million in return for a bigger piece - 33 percent, instead of 20 percent - of any settlements.
Dear David,
We ran out of money, but we will give you an even bigger slice of nothing.
Why would anyone use a 1.5GB hard drive when you can put an 1GB SD card in for $98? Surely the flash memory would do much better in drop tests and be more portable for use in REAL digital cameras and REAL MP3 players...
Oh, and "Tony Long", the editor pushing this? He can be "tony long", or just "long" for short.
I'm confused. Is that a declaration on a 32 or 64 bit system? Use long for short? A 32 bit long might be a 64 bit short in some languages. Which language is wired trying to screw here?
Accurately?
It is good to see my Mickey Mouse Death star logo on the front page again.
I for one, welcome my new /. overlords.
So what is your number? I'll let you know how it turns out.
Maybe it isn't NASA who is being paranoid... Anyone think it might be the astronauts?

Hey, I took a shower this quarter!
I made a similar argument about AOL not too long ago. Then all the idiots who think AOL is the whole computer might be right. :)

Blurring the pixels results in free real time antialiasing!
You can always tape the corded receiver to the wireless mouse...
Looking at the SCSI trends, Ultra640 should be enough throughput for anybody.
It should be OK as long as we don't saltdot him. We may experience a loss of connection at that point...
Be fair and balanced. Report both sides of the story!
Oh wait. I think Depeche Mode already did that...
"You'll dance to anything by Depeche Commode!" - The Dead Milkmen
how will really benefit the consumer?
1) You go from $6 DVI cables to $99 HDMI cables
2) ???
3) Profit!
So the Apple guys should "Drink Different"?

I think I have some offers for law degree's in my inbox. So he has 8 years, 11 months, 30 days, 23 hours, 59 minutes and 59 seconds left to plan out.
The fact the the acronym sounds like NERD should have been the first clue...
Blu-Ray is a pronounciation dream. HD DVD is an acronym nightmare.
Since HD-DVD uses a red laser, should we call it Red-ROM?
Red-ROM is way easier to say and it appeals to the Stephen King fans.
Anyway, this is the most boring Red vs. Blue episode I've ever seen.

This graph shows that they follow market trends, not case developments.
Same trends, different relative value.

Big Brother gets all the attention!
What about lil' Brudder? Doesn't he deserve more?
