Why did this have to be exclusive to iTunes? Yes, they're the largest. But why not recognize all of the non iTunes users and release for all of the major online stores?:(
Only question now is not if but when will Linux become the number one OS on earth?
Why does it have to be Linux? Why Windows? I would bet good money that the "number one OS on Earth" will be neither of the two.
Unix and its early variants, around for about 30 years, are quickly losing share to Linux. DOS only had a 20-year shelf-life. Windows, around now in various forms for about 15 years, is probably going to give-way soon to another major evolution in OS. Linux, too, probably will go away to be replaced by something better. It's just a matter of time.
But to say that "Linux will become the number one OS on Earth" is a bit like a mother claiming her child is the best actress of all time, just undiscovered at the moment.
OSS zealots need to be less focused on smashing Microsoft and their self-claimed superiority, and more focused on solving the problems that are limiting their market-share.
Either that, or - as someone earlier stated - focus on a niche that Linux can properly serve and stick with that.
Employing booth babes is a classic marketing strategy used to draw attention to your booth.
This news isn't about sticking up for women or not treating them as objects, it's just a twist on the strategy. They're in fact still treating women as objects to further their own advancement. How is this any better?
Their claim of "putting the focus back on the games" is bullshit. If that were the case, they would have just not hired "ugly women" (their quote, not mine) and not made mention of their anti-booth-babes stance.
All this is is a press stunt to get some extra attention apart from all the other vendors using booth babes.
Well I've played other FF games, mostly older ones like Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger/Cross, Parasite Eve... and they were each good in their own ways.
Fact is I only have so much time to really play games, so I have to be picky. But having to spend my money on 2-3 systems doesn't help.
As a die-hard FF fan, I really wish Square would either pick a system and just stick with it, or release for multiple platforms.
I own the PS1 and PS2 only because of Square. Honestly. Now they have one game on the GC, another on the GBA. I'm very suprised there is no X-Box game.
It will be interesting if the migrate back to Nintendo and leave the PS3 behind. But if they release FF13 for the Revolution and FF14 on the PS3, I'm going to be pissed.
This is great and all, but I would love for a way to upload a graphic file to a search engine and have it report back any identical (or nearly identical.. perhaps a "threshold" setting) copies on the web.
This would be useful to me as a photographer to see if anyone out there is using my photos.
Like most of you, the back of my desk looks like a bowl of random-colored spaghetti.
I'd love to see a reduction of wires back there. Not just because it's ugly, but because of the time it takes to plug/unplug when I want to change things around.
I had hoped that BlueTooth would reduce this, but I have yet to see a good selection of BT devices to replace things like my printer, monitor, speakers, webcam, etc.
When they made the USB 2.0 standard, couldn't they have given it more juice to power devices like LCDs and scanners? *sigh*
Mine is very happy with Bust-A-Move. She's spent hours playing that and it was easy to teach her.
SimCity 4, which obviously takes a long time to learn, has been great for us to play together. It's a very addictive game, too.
And Final Fantasy, as someone else here pointed out, has a lot to appeal to the female gamer. It's easy to learn, doesn't require all the fast reflexes and constant attention, and has a fantastic plot line with romance weaved in.
The conspiracy must be SO HUGE that Microsoft saw your post and quickly modified your page ranking on MSN! OMG!
Your site is currently listed as #2 on MSN, and #1 on Google.
And granted, your site title is "San Andreas Radio" but if that is all that search engines went by for ranking, we'd have a system that could very easily be taken advantage of.
First quit stuffing this proprietary crap down my throat, at least have the decency to put it under the GPL.
Yeah, like that will happen. Might as well ask for the Windows source code while you're at it.
Second, please don't default load to the msn page, WTF.
You do realize that Microsoft gets revenue from MSN Search, don't you? And is it really that hard to change your default?
Third, could you actually put something in there to block ads and popups.
Have you not heard of this new SP2 thing? Try it out. Blocks popups. As for ads, if they did that they'd piss off every web advertiser in existance and probably get class-action sued.
Fourth, last time I looked default IE has over ONE GIG of cache in the settings.
Tools, Options, Settings. Change it yourself.
Fifth, could you actually make it work with java?
Every Java app I've tried works. Gotta download the Java plug-in first. Blame Sun and their lawsuit for that.
Sixth, don't renember all my crap - I want privacy and security - and when I close the browser I want the option to not only take out the cache, cookies, and history of web sites visited, but also want it to TRUELY ERASE IT.
Paranoid much? There are probably a dozen third-party apps that do this already.
Seventh, oh and this really pisses me off, PLEASE PLEASE when I hit the reload button - I want it to actually reload the data from the URL over the internet not reload a bunch of cache!!!
Hold down Control when you hit F5 or press reload.
Eigth, can't you natively render PDF's. Why do I half to deal with all this over bloated adobe crap?
I have a suspicion that Adobe would take issue having PDF rendering part of IE without any Adobe app. As for Reader bloat-ware, go bark up Adobe's tree.
Ninth, please put something in there that makes it easy for me to "steal" (GASP!!!) someone's "intellectual property".
Uh huh. Why not just add a "warez" button which takes you right to your favorite IRC channel too?
Could it also be a factor that in the US, calling a local number (from a home) is a free call? Whereas, in most other countries, you pay per minute even when calling a local number.
So, in the US, a dial-up account is about $20/mo regardless of usage. In other countries, you pay much more than that... probably far more than you would pay for a broadband connection.
So here, many people are content with dial-up at the lower rate and thus fewer investements are made to bring broadband to those people.
While certainly it would have been funnier to have every word of the book/play in the movie script, I cannot help but think how long a movie that would have made.
So granted, to fit it down into a nice 2-hour (or whatever) showing, they had no choice but to cut out bits and pieces.
If that is all that this reviewer is complaining about, and it seems to be, then I'm still perfectly at-terms with my eagerness to go see it.
I interpreted that as adding additional documented APIs so that open-source projects can better interface with Windows.
That's their proposal, rather than opening up the entire source code which I think is a rather rediculous requirement. Instead of doing that, the enhance the APIs so external projects can tie in. Good compromise to me.
If Pepsi were found guilty of similar charges, would the EU require them to publish their secret recipe?
Blockbuster will be refunding customers as part of the deal
So does that mean that customers who "bought" a DVD (because they didn't return it in 7 days) and therefore were charged full retail price, are now getting complete refunds?
Mod me however you want for this one, for I was once a Nintendo fan boy too.
But here's a thought. What if Nintendo went the way of Atari and Sega and decided to just stick to making high-quality games, and gave up the console business?
Their Game Cube ain't doin' so hot. I don't think the DS will do very well with the PSP hot on its tails. And with the next-gen PS and XB coming out very soon, I don't see Big-N's future getting any brighter.
BUT... what Nintendo has always done VERY well is make excellent games. Metroid, Zelda, Mario, etc. If you look back at the most successful of Nintendo games, it's always been the ones that were produced by Nintendo -- not the ones that 3rd Parties developed for the system.
Sega gave up consoles to make Sonic games. Atari did the same. Maybe Nintendo should stick to what it does best and bow down to the two console leaders.
The problem, for me, is not the restriction on private usage like many people here keep bringing up. I agree with you. The bill is only designed to limit access to people who request it.
The problem I have is that ISPs *MUST* restrict access and label the content they create. Any time a government imposes restrictions on a commercial entity, I get a little urked. In some cases, ie safety, this is a Good Thing. In this case, it's nothing but a law that forces service providers to offer a service to all that only some want.
It will increase their costs (especially the small mom/pop ISPs) for the limited few.
It is akin to requiring ISPs to filter inbound spam or provide accelerated dial-up access to their customers.
It should be the ISP's choice to offer this service.
Maybe I'm just spoiled with PowerPoint, but I would think that this mapping software he uses would be a perfect match with dual-monitor support.
The software could provide one view of the map on the external display (the projector or a big screen TV or whatever) and keep a "game view" for the GM showing the entire map, info, stats, notes, whatever.
No kidding. I about choked on my Mountain Dew when I read that.
'Cause you have to admit.. that Plain Text file format sure is ancient and no one uses it any more.
Tab delimited... what were they thinking?
I thought the same thing.. but in reading more about Ghost and the way it plays, I think you'll discover it's much more strategy than shooter.
Perhaps I wasn't clear enough, so I'll use bold to mark the focus of my question:
Why did this have to be exclusive to iTunes?

Couldn't this entire article be re-written by replacing "game" with "movie" and blasting Hollywood?

You can say all you want about Dvorak, but just remember one thing:
His job is not to write articles that are accurate, reflective, probing, revealing, humorous, or anything else.
His job is simply to write something that generates a click to the site, so that they can get a little ad revenue.
Regardless of what you think about this article, he did his job pretty well.
You're not a customer of Google.
It's advertisers are. And I'm quite certain that they did pay for the benefit of showing you advertisements.

If your RTFA, it implies that the Starter edition is not taking off because the vendors are still loading the XP Home version instead.
So, it's not saying that sales are declining, they're just opting for the more expensive product. They're not getting the cheap one.
