  1. Doom 3 on Xbox is great news!!! on Doom 3 System Requirements Revealed · · Score: 1

At least if the performance delta between the PC version and the console version is anywhere near what we had with Halo!

I mean, a $200 box running the game at 2x the framerate, that's gotta be the bargain of the year... ;)

  2. Number 1 on my feature wishlist... on New iPod Design Pictures Leak · · Score: 3, Interesting

...would be gapless MP3 playback, like on the Rio and coming up (or already there?) on the iRiver iHP series. It's just a pain in the butt listening to live or DJ mix CD's with the annoying pause between tracks.

I can't understand why this feature isn't already in iPods - it really should be on top of the developers' todo list. Maybe Apple is so convinced that "nobody listens to albums no more"?

  3. Not all of them use CD-R's... on Malaysian Government Prefers Open Code · · Score: 1

At least in Malaysia and Thailand, most of the pirated software and music CD's I saw were pressed silvers. The same titles appear in both countries as identical copies - there must be a bigger pirate organization behind all that.

  4. Clearing out old inventory? on Apple Delays New iMac · · Score: 1
The Inquirer seems to think that the delay in the introduction of the new iMac is because Apple wants to clear out old inventory first, and that "people haven't been buying enough old iMacs".

Does anybody know where they got their ideas from? Their point doesn't seem all that valid to me - why would Apple stop taking orders if they wanted to get rid of a mountain of iMacs?

the problem is, these EC cards don't have a credit card number. they are directly linked to your account number at the bank. so they are not suitable for online commerce - the banks won't accept an EC card number without PIN code, and they won't send the PIN over the internet.

That actually depends on the country, which of course doesn't make things any easier. Here in Finland at least, the debit cards *do* have numbers. For example, my card is a combination Visa/debit card and the same number works for both uses. Many Finnish online merchants accept debit cards as payment, along with online account transfers and credit cards.

  10. TV-out quality still the same? on Previewing ATi's Radeon X800 XT & X800 Pro · · Score: 1

With all the focus on speed and 3d-features that no-one will use for a year, how about the new cards' TV output?

All the cards I've tried so far have had serious problems outputting decent quality video at TV resolutions and refresh rates. Especially PAL seems to be problematic, 720x576@50Hz is not something the drivers have heard about.

This really sucks, as PC's are used in HTPC applications more and more. I recently tested a bunch of ATI video cards, and none of them had good enough quality to watch a DVD on a TV set - interlacing problems were all around.

  11. "Just listen to music"? on Super MP3 Will Feature User Tracking · · Score: 1
People want vinyl records. They see it as a format from simpler times. They hate CDs for any number of reasons and vinyl lets them just listen to music.

Sooo... let me get this straight - these people think that the vinyl listening procedure is simpler? WTF?

    1. Take record sleeve out of outer sleeve
    2. Take record out of inner sleeve
    3. Place record on TT
    4. Turn on TT motor
    5. Use carbon fibre brush to remove dust from record
    6. Use stylus brush to remove dust from stylus
    7. Raise tonearm lifter
    8. Move tonearm over first groove
    9. Lower tonearm lifter
    10. Enjoy the music!!!

And, of course, after 20 minutes max you'll do it again.

Granted, it can be relaxing to play around with vinyl. Hell, I own more than 500 of the buggers. The sleeve artwork is also often way cooler than with CD's. But "just listen to music"? I don't think so.

  13. What about the iPod volume cap issue? on Apple Releases Major iTunes Update · · Score: 0, Offtopic
Has anyone tried the new firmware yet? Does it still have that stupid volume cap on EU iPods?

If it does, what about the 1/2G machines - is the cap still removable by deleting the "limit" file from the iPod disk? (Ie. is the new fw safe to install on an EU 2G iPod?)

  16. Re:The picked the wrong iRiver, too. on Fourteen Digital Music Players Reviewed · · Score: 1

My problem with the iRiver is that you can't browse the contents by the ID3 tag content - only filenames.

Well, unless you use the provided software to manually add every file you copy over to a separate database file, but that's too much work.

Also, iPod still has everything else beat with the UI.

English subs can be pretty good, but usually aren't. Take Princess Mononoke, which you used as an example. I can't stand the monk guy's accent - way too amerrrrrrican for anime. They should know better - thick English accents just don't suit the Japanese surroundings.

On second thought, maybe they should Babelfish a secondary script - Audio 3: Engrish would be damn funny..
