I'm not an expert in this field, but for time run competitions and such, arn't you supposed to use a real nes with a real cart? I vaguely remember reading rules that said emulators are not allowed, or maybe that was just for a specific competition?
Places won't have xbox's set up because they can't make money off of it. It is too much hassle to charge say 5 bucks for 10 minutes because then you have to keep track of if they played for 10 minutes, and thenyou'd have to kick them off and hear them argue about how they almost beat the level if you just gave em 30 more seconds blah blah.
The only way this will happen is if you see an xbox basically set up as a multi-game arcade machine that takes quarters, but then you'd have to recode all the games so it asks for credits and such, and do you have any idea such an arcade system would cost? Crappy new arcade machines cost a couple thousand, you could easily guess an xbox multi-game one would be 10k, and it would simply not make enough money to even cover the cost.
Back in warcraft and warcraft 2 when you click on the units repeatedly they will say things like "quit poking me!" (the cursor was a hand with 1 finger extended..)
In black & White the good and evil concious characters make a few comments worthy of this subject.
If only they would update the game for windows, and maybe update the textures just a smidgen so they would compete with the original doom, then I would be in heaven.
This is a bad idea for PC games.
Imagine star wars without the explosions or lasers and that is what you will get. There are so many people who don't run the max graphics because their machine doesn't allow them to, and so they won't see what the developers intended them to see.
Not to mention that even the top computers right now would not be able to run a good scene using modern graphics technology. If you have seen the "behind the scenes" video from blizzard about the WoW cutscenes then you will know what I mean. There is no way that even a top of the line computer can run those kinds of cutscenes at a decent fps.
I'm guessing this guy shares the computer with someone else, most likely a brother or something, and that person initiated the pre-load AND the download of counterstrike
this is just what we need, a whole bunch of blind people going a little too far off the soccer field and into auto traffic because they are "chasing a demon"
Serious sam is a game that if not for the co-op aspect, I would have played for 15 minutes before junking it.
Thankfully for the co-op and the magic of lan, I was able to play it co-op on ultra hard with 2 other people for a few hours before junking it.
This is just a marketing ploy. nvidia says hey I'll scratch your back if you scratch mine. Since ATI recently struck a deal valve they prolly don't have as much resources available to offer and so nvidia easily made a better offer to id.
I really doubt it will make a noticable difference whether you are running a 9800 pro or a 5800, and the only thing we have to look forward to is another spiffy nvidia intro where a flaming skull flys a few circles around the nvidia logo before getting shot up and exploding.
From the average quake players perspective I can see how one might think a game like everquest or daoc requires no "skill", but you are wrong. Your personal definition of skill is skewed if you think that hand-eye coordination is the only kind of skill there is. The cleric has to watch the health of all the people in his group, then heal them accordingly, it is not always a slow process where you have plenty of time to react, sometimes it is a split second to react and most of the people playing mmorpgs would not react fast enough.. that is the difference between a "good" player and a average joe. If there was no room for a "good" player vs a bad one then I would agree that mmorpgs take no skill. But if someone can go beyond average, and even beyond good to where they are renowned as the best cleric on the server, then how can you possibly say there is no skill involved?
This is not even taking into concideration the strategy needed to take a large raid force into an area and clear it out, anyone who had done a fear raid back in the day knows what I am talking about. Only very coordinated groups could "break" and hold fear.
I don't know whether to think this one is being thrown out their for the sole purpose of taunting the media or if some crazed developer actually thought this stuff up on his own..
it sounds like an interesting title, but I'm sure the media will pull it every direction it can..
at least it might take attention away from gta and manhunt...
I think you need at least one main bad guy in a story. The main bad guy might not be the one you encounter at the end and you may never encounter him, but he is the one bad guy that causes your goal.
Inspector gadget for example.. There is an uncountable number of henchmen. Are the henchmen bad? Who is to say, maybe they just want to earn a wage. It is Dr. Claw who is the one "for certain" bad guy, he is the cause.
In addition to a 1 main bad guy it is important to have grey characters for depth. In LOTR, for example, was Gollum evil? In several ways, on purpose or not, he helped them destroy the ring and he never really caused any destruction. In the end it was his own greed that destroyed him; do you feel bad for him? how could you feel bad for someone who is truely evil.
Was Darth Vader truely evil? If he was then why did he kill the Emporer(The one true evil) to save his sons life?

this reminds me of that guy who claimed to have a patent on computer solitaire, dated 1998...
