Doctor Who is prime time weekend television in the UK. The viewing figures for the last episode were 8.4 million viewers, 39.4% of overall viewing, coming in as the 10th most watched program of the week.
Doctor Who is deeply ingrained in British culture, so they're only geeks in as much as the average British person is a geek.
Remember that the primary audience for Doctor Who isn't geeks - it's the British. Evolution is essentially defacto fact in the UK. People who believe in ID are viewed as quaintly deluded at best, and batshit mentals at worst.
Ever written code for these "other phone substrates"? It's such a monumental pain in the arse that, assuming developers can be bothered at all, they'll certainly reimplement vast swathes of the application from the ground up due to fundamental (and often archaic) platform differences anyway. This SDK will more than likely clean up if only because it's a derivative of OS X and thus programming for it'll be a dream.
Whereas all the solutions of the left rely on the inherent goodness of humanity, which is as equally delusional and fantastical as a belief in a Magical Sky Daddy.
Unless I am REALLY missing something, it is next to impossible to go from a blurry distorted image to pin-sharp. Really close to impossible. It is a matter of data. If you start from blurry, you cannot actually obtain the information required to unblur it. It does not exist. Untrue. The information is spread into the pixels over which it is blurred. With the appropriate convolution matrix, you can recover the pinsharp picture. Hackzine covered it lately: http://www.hackszine.com/blog/archive/2008/01/remove_shake_and_motion_blur_f.html
Regardless of their links, the reason they'll be promoting Ada is because Mistress[1] will chain you down and flay you to within an inch of your life if you even *dream* of unsafe code.
I wonder if this has been catalysed by the need to move from Carbon to Cocoa for future versions of OS X?

How about breeding animals for the sole purpose of extracting labour from them, then discarding them to die slowly and without dignity when they're no longer capable of performing?
It's not a sham joke, it's simply misguided. Like communism and anarchy, it relies on the flawed axiom that humans are, at their core, good. Nearly all evidence points to the contrary, as shown by how the other political ideaologies based on the same axiom have played out.
1) Didn't even think about rebooting my box by itself, regardless of configuration 2) Installed updates when I turned my computer on, not off - if I'm turning it off, then any second I'm going to be slinging the machine in my backpack, and jumping on my motorbike. Last I heard, Microsoft didn't possess the magical mystical powers required to ensure a hard drive works perfectly in these conditions. 3) Fucked off when I press the "I don't want to reboot now" button, instead of pestering me every 30 seconds like a bloody 4 year old.
None of these should require registry tweaks or policy hacks - they should all be *defaults*.
Except that modern headlamps are more than powerful enough to compensate adequately.
The reason it didn't catch on is because it'd cost the manufacturers too much without improving the drool-proof specifications enough.

i got "do you know why jesus died on the cross?" shouted in my face.
<rik> i replied with "because he forgot his safe word?"

But I want to listen to psytrance, not acid house! :(
The LEDs aren't the art, they're merely providing an interesting new media for the artist.

Funny? I wish, this seems exceptionally insightful to me.
When you assumed that the poor wouldn't become useless bums, gleefully leeching their living out of the tax payers.
Only some solutions need religions.

[1] My pet name for the Ada toolchain.
Due to vehicle testing regulations in Japan, I'd be surprised if your car survived long enough to need a change of tyres anyway.

Welcome to the human race.
For the same reason you don't pick up a weeks worth of McDonald's if you're headed out to the market.
You live in an anarchy - look around you and see the result.
You're thinking of the wrong demographics. All the assorted pressure groups will mobilise their armies of members, and get them voting on line.

And a pony?
So expect public floggings, the execution of homosexuals, explusion of darkies, enforced christianity, etc. to make a big come back down under, then?
There's a good reason why civilised countries don't dance to the tune of the lowest common denominator.

How can they steal that which is freely given away?
I, personally, prefer the term USAlien.
