Don't be confused by the name PSX. Many people took to calling the original Playstation the PSX, but that was not an official name for the console.
This new PS2 supermachine is officially known as the PSX. It's a little confusing, but what can you do?
"When the pen tip comes close to the screen of another device, a shadow of the attached object appears on its screen. Tapping the pen tip instructs the 'pen manager' server to copy the file to that location."
I can't tell if the pen actually is screen location sensitive, or if it just sends the file to the destination machine?
In other words, is it actually a copy and paste across two computers, or is it just a clunky way to send files?
Yeah, except they are planning on making some $$$ off of engine licenses.
The way id does it is the way to go. They make a game/engine, license it for a while, and then when their next generation technology is out, they release the source code for the previous generation. So when Doom 3 comes out, we'll get the Quake 3 source reasonably soon thereafter.
What's the point of using making computer-generated versions of human beings. Why not just use real humans? Use computers to make dragons, the balrog, etc.
Are you saying I didn't have to download the mp3, import it into iTunes, export it to my iPod, and then put on my headphones to hear it?
I could have just double clicked? But the article said iPod...
"One of the false assumptions that people make is that when they hit the delete button, messages are gone forever, but nothing can be further from the truth," said Jeff Kagan, an independent telecommunications analyst in Atlanta.
Well yeah, that's why you have to also go to "Empty Recycle Bin"
I may be naive seeing as I'm only 20 years old and just getting started in the coding field (at my first job programming, I've been here just over a year), but it definitely seems to me that advanced degress != coding ability/work output.
I've been extremely surprised at finding out what people here have advanced degrees and which ones dropped out of college to take jobs back in their day.
I do work as a programmer, but I'm only 20 years old (I've been at this job for over a year now). Everyone here seems to have a family life, we very rarely work insane hours, and the people who work here generally seem very happy - I know I am.
Maybe I just have a skewed vision of how things work.
In my opinion, Microsoft needs to learn that not everything is a webpage, and everyone needs to learn that smaller is not necessarilly better.
One time in high school I heard two popular, trendy girls having a heated argument about who had the smaller cell phone.
"...one of Inkscape's distinguishing features is that it stores its drawings in a web-friendly XML format"
Isn't that a fairly easy change to make to current open-source vector-drawing utilities? Serializing the output to XML instead of a binary format doesn't seem like the first feature you should mention when describing the advantages your program has over others... Then again, it is open source.

... that free hardware doesn't become mandatory, or even commonplace. We certainly need to avoid a situation where it is difficult for nerds like us to build whatever machine we'd like.
I certainly prefer my Radeon 9800 Pro to the TNT I would likely have in my crap-tacular machine right now if it was free...
... going to spout off about how they have no right to be observing us? I mean, what gives them the right to spy on us during a movie that we paid good money to see?
I thought it would be pillars also, but the article says:
"These will take the total height at the highest point to 343 metres. One of the main supporting pylons beneath the platform, known as pylon 2, stands 245 metres high, making it the tallest pylon in the world."
Am I correct, reading this wrong, being an idiot?

This guy came up with RFIDs... You'd think he'd be a lifelong enemy of the slashdot tin-foil hat crowd.

... now I can move my bed even farther away from my desk and still be able to use my wireless keyboard. Rock.
UT2k4 and the upcoming DOOM3 both ship with Linux binaries.

... does it run Linux?
Myst-esque games didn't hold up very well through the years... It's tough to come up with a significant list of decent ones.
What will it take to /. one of these RFID readers?
This makes no sense at all to me.
One of the animations for Shrek is doing animations for DOOM 3.

The entire book is excellent, and I can't recommend it strongly enough.

Hopefull now everyone will be able to listen to Howard Stern again,

I'd think that a fairly structured, stable, relatively high-paying job is perfect for family life.

I wouldn't be too sure about that.
