I saw that on TV Saturday night. He lives in his parents basement. I thought that was kind of stereotypical of what everyone would think of a professional gamer. I saw the house and was praying in my mind that he purchased it with his winnings...but no, MTV said he rents the basement out from his parents. I guess there is nothing wrong with that but seriously, couldn't it have been a room? Why the basement? That's what every anti-nerd wants it to be.
What do you think about http://www.gamerankings.com/? It seems to work pretty good if you are looking for multiple review scores for one game and it puts them all together in a handy location. Then you can just follow the link to read the actual review. I use it when I am really serious about wanting a game but I want to check with multiple review sites to see if they all gave it the same general rating.
Best Buy: 20 to 60 Xbox 360s with a larger shipment coming "later that week."
So what's up with that? Are they going to make enough Xbox 360s to give all of the Best Buy stores more in less than 7 days after they get the first batch? That seems pretty impressive...at least to me.
I agree with you but anyone that owns an older version of the PS2 would still have to go out and buy the Sony Network Adapter to get their PS2 online. Or I guess they could pay for a whole new console (or maybe their old one is broken, etc, etc)
DS Training For Adults can already recognize when you write numbers with the stylus. I'm sure it's much easier to do but it still does it on the math part of the "game".
I already have Castlevania for the DS but here is my want list. Maybe you will like some of these too:
Trauma Center
Phoenix Wright
Lost In Blue
Zoo Tycoon
Metroid Prime Pinball - 10/24/05
Mario Kart - 11/14/2005
Animal Crossing - 12/05/2005
Mario and Luigi 2 - 11/28/2005
Sonic Rush - 11/15/2005
It would be kind of hard to take since most stores are open 24/7 and have security cameras and the 360 is locked behind that glass case. Not saying it couldn't be done but that window of opportunity (normally when the store is closed) isn't quite as easy to come by.
I can't comprehend why anyone would want to spend more time than in a McDonald's than is required to purchase some food. The restaurants are smelly, thick with grease (even the air is greasy) and decked out in the cheapest plastic available.
Because they don't have wireless access at home and they are to cheap to afford the wifi adapter for the DS? This way they can play for free without even having internet access at home (as long as there is a McDonalds in their town). I could see this making some of the younger kids want to go to McDonalds even more than they already do. When I was young I always wanted to go to McDonalds to play on the playground...not really to eat. Maybe this is the new version of the playground.
I thought the Saturn was reverse compatible, and it was the same generation as PS1. So how was it 'the first home console in a long time that was backwards compatible'?
It wasn't backwards compatable. The Gameboy Color was though!
I thought the point of these attacks was to bring the page down so they could no longer conduct business and make money. Gambling, sports betting, high traffic ecommerce sites...places like that lose money per a second when their equipment is down. If the amount it costs to keep the DDOS from happening (the payoff) is much less than the amount of money they would lose if their site went down there is a good chance the people will pay to keep it from happening. At least I thought that was why they would do it.
The problem with people going to conventions just to get free stuff isn't limited to E3. I think that happens everywhere. I've been to numerous other conventions (never E3) and the sales people are all about getting something out to the attendees that has their product name on it. The writer doesn't give a good reason why "swagbaggers" keep him from doing his job, he just complains and says he doesn't like them. Can't he still review the product without waiting in line for free stuff?
He complains about how easy it is for people to get in and how small press doesn't get any attention. How easy is it for someone to put together a webpage, get a general business license and start "reporting" on video game news in the first place? Before today I had never heard of gaming horizon. IGN and Gamespot are places people go for information because they have a large user base that warrants the extra things that get thrown their way.
Demo Campers? Buck up bucky. If someone is sitting at a game for 30 minutes and you have been waiting to play you tell them to move. It can't be that hard to do.
Online Reporters:
Only journalists with commercial news Web sites qualify for E3 2005 media badges.
Does gaming horizon qualify as a commercial news site?
Do they have a business license or government issued documentation and business cards for their staff of volunteer writers? If they don't have all of these things they don't qualify as media anyway.
Is that four story building listed on their staff page really theirs or did they just photoshop a logo on a building? http://www.gaminghorizon.com/staff.php
I'm just curious if gaming horizon qualified to get valid E3 media passes in the first place.
I actually did that with my Xbox. I got the Phantasy Star Online Episode I & II USB Keyboard Adapter for my Xbox when it was available for free plus shipping and handling ($6.95USD). I plugged that in to the control port and then hooked my 1gig usb key to it and turned on the Xbox. It treated it like an unformated memory card and formated my USB key as one giant memory card. I thought I had trashed my USB actually because I had a little trouble formating it back once I disconnected it from the Xbox.
I used to work a salaried position that didn't pay overtime but demanded 50 - 60 hours/week. I asked about changing to hourly and was told, flat out, that it would be a pay cut. My salary, apparently, included an "allowance" of about 15% for "overtime compensation". If I converted to hourly, not only would I take a 15% pay cut, but I would absolutely never, ever, be allowed to put in overtime.
I had the same exact thing happen to me. Going back to hourly would mean no overtime and a pay cut. Staying salary they would deduct money for time missed and pay nothing for overtime. I finally quit after 7 years. Things are much better now.
I'm looking at a particular torrent site right now and a quick search for psp returns 391 torrents. The first 21 torrents (most popular) under PSP are PSP ISOs and the largest is 370Megs. Hell, Metal Gear Acid is only 74Megs, Lumines is only 135, Wipeout Pure is 197...etc, etc. I think you can fit all of the most popular games on one 1gig memory stick.
I'm guessing people are already pirating games and playing them on the PSP? Not many people talk about it but it sure seems like they are already doing it.
Yeah, I think the new issue of Game Informer (is that the mag you get for signing up at Gamestop?) has a handheld wars section and they say that a developer for both systems told them they make more on UMDs for the PSP than they have on any DS game they've sold (or something to that effect).
Now, from my experience, a lot of sale clerks are pushing emulation on PSP as a selling point against the DS, Lumines and the upcoming GTA.
Are you saying that sale clerks were telling customers how great emulation was on the PSP even though no one who bought a PSP with the version 2.0 firmware were able to play emulators up until yesterday? What were they telling them...that someday in the future they might be able to play emulators on their PSP but at the current time they could not? I doubt that. Who would want to buy a product that "might" be able to do something at a later date?
Or were you saying that since yesterday, when this was released, sales clerks have been talking about how the PSP can be used for emulators?
I think "powerup" (without quotes) is the code for a free month and then two months at $14.95 Not sure if it's the standard starting deal anyway but that's what I found on one of their promotional sites.
It's not all old mame style arcade games. I see Beyond Good & Evil, Capitalism(TM) II, onquest: Frontier Wars(TM), Swat 2, well....a lot of UbiSoft PC games. I don't know how good any of them are but at least it isn't just old arcade games.
You are brilliant. Now, after we answer the questions and fill out our location information, what would you like us to select for the country we live in? You know, since they don't really want us to pick the country we live in, just the language we speak.
It's a conspiracy! Here is another article with different pictures for those that are interested. They compare it to the DS the PSP and the older GBASP and I couldn't tell if you were joking or not since you were modded insightful but the pictures on this page don't appear to be at any different angle.

Don't forget the girls at http://www.watchusgame.com/ The list and photos of girl gamers is huge there...and most of them are pretty hot.

I agree with what you are saying though. I don't buy flash carts or mod chips to play homebrew stuff. I might be buying a PSP very soon now as well.

I've whipped out quite a few things while riding a bus and the NDS was one of the easiest...and the least criminal.
