How about this concept, hooking a video capable ipod to your camcorder and using it as a dump drive, then being able to review your DV footage on the ipod at half resolution.

  3. Re:You know? on No Region Codes for HD-DVD? · · Score: 1

Totally conned. Sure "region locks" may be gone, but that just means the DRM has gotten far more specific. Chances are the DRM has made region lock redundant at some level, so they're spinning it as a benefit to the format of HDDVD.

And I too shall continue supporting Blu-Ray, for a reason not often mentioned anymore: The Blu-Ray technology was built with expandability in the earlier days. From what I recall, the utilization of multiple layers could increase the BD size from an initial 50Gigabytes to half a terabyte- and this was is just not possible with the HD-DVD standard. Anybody else recall this important design spec?

  13. Re:Question. Who misses real albums? on Jobs Resists Music Industry Pressure · · Score: 1

You know what, I just noticed that myself. The Raw clean sound of live-to-disc recordings. I witnessed a "master" of a live event recorded to disc on the fly and realized that since the disc was never authored in the studio, no advanced sound compressions or eq trimming was ever applied. I heard sound pitches so intense that I had to back away from the speakers. And this made me wonder if it's because the audio was never authored for the "safe zone" of equipment. The prime example is a track the other day of Gordon Lightfoot, and I could hear that the way the sound came out of the speakers, the dynamic range was governed to the technical limitations of speakers when that song was released back in the mid 70s.

Vector GUI is the only thing that really excites me about Vista. Taking that power of the GPU and having it control all the visuals just like a video game (Blizzard comment in mind "Zug Zug" :D ).

Just thinking that when I resize my desktop resolution, the chrome and interfaces can stay relatively proportionate to the real estate while adding increased resolution is hot stuff. Animating vectors will be supa sweet. And I'm thinking way beyond whatever OSX has. I checked out those icons.. they're just bitmaps ... I thought they were sweet little vectors but alas I was dissapointed.

See.. I'm already starting to save up for a screen thats the size of the astrometrics lab on Voyager with the curvature and everything. I know it will be possible and yes, OH YES it will be mine.

For YEARS and YEARS Microsoft Messenger has sucked the big one with file transfers. It drives me INSANE how one person in my list will get 53KB/s and somebody down the block will only get 3.8KB/S. Firewall? No. No firewall. No explanation. Full out open ports with all lights green and it runs like snot in the arctic.

I thought MAYBE switching to Trillian would give me the benefit of ICQ without the ads (which it did) and MSN without the transfer blunders, but alas, nay. Although I have stuck with Trillian, it's not the complete solution as the software can only do as much as the protocols allow.

So.. giving me a sweet efficient communication system that can be accepted by the masses, not have advertisements flying at my face in animated GIF glory, and NOT give me a dejavu of a 33.6 Diamond Supra modem, Count Me In.
