I would not be surprised in the future if
A) Apple and IBM enter a joint venture with IBM computers running OS X
B) IBM outright buying Apple (less likely) for OS X and some of their brilliant minds.
C) Apple, IBM and perhaps another PC manufacture building PCs with PPC procs in them and selling them along side their windows PCs, (Really would HP care if they get their Procs from IBM or Intel? I doubt they much like either.)
D) IBM begins selling desktop PCs with PPC procs and linux as the OS.
E) IBM creates their own distro, and ships on PPC machines, likely with libraries that would still make their computers very program compatible with Apple's
Sun needs to seriously stop trying to piss people off and simply be a company.
The hating Microsoft thing was fun and quite funny. This new Anti-linux thing is just dumb. Make your money off your freaking Hardware, if AMD, IBM and Intel are beating your procs, USE their's I'm sure they'd sell to you.
Another poster kind of said this.
But what would be really smart would be taking out those features in Windows that ultimately are useless to the Mac user. Don't have a separate desktop and what not, but instead run the OS inside of OS X. Like X11 works, no need for Windows wall paper, just put a task bar on the bottom or side, and label the start button with a VPC logo or something.
I would probably buy VPC... maybe, if it weren't simply Windows in a box.
Business is based on monopoly? Dang... fisher price is gona start going all SCO and making businesses pay licensing fees... if it's based on their technology... or board game...
No no no, we know this isn't the new Xbox because they look to GOOD to be M$! People they may not look like something out of Apple or Sony, but come on, the top one looks like it could be a Wireless router or something. It's not that ugly, the second one... I dono, but either way that thing looks to nice to be M$ made... I mean come on, when it looks like it's made by fisher price that's when we know it's legit.
Oh and by the way, doesn't look like two G5s could fit in that either.
Seriously?
Hmm... they don't seem to have any category for Konquer/Safari users... or am I missing something?
Either way nice to see Moz gaining ground... but... is this really true?
If Apple found a way to make a portable video iPod branded whatever... it'd probably sell but it would by far be the least profitable model. They'd have to have a huge mark up to cover the costs of just having the thing. But the only company I would ever buy one of these from is Apple.. why? Because they're not making one! Why aren't they making one? Because it's a bad idea! OK take it in the car with you, most people who want this sort of thing will have built in TVs in their cars now. The rest of us... buy a bloody laptop and a car adapter. For double the cost you can do a ton more.
If this was a portable computer and priced this way with tons of features including music, light graphic manipulation etc it'd be worth it. But a solitary device for video and music, it's a dumb idea, it's not useful enough to regularly use.
I'm sure the market for these is there, I just don't think it's big, or the people in it are all that bright.
Apple, and other companies have to pay for the proc, casing, etc, HD costs I doubt are different no matter what size they get aside from perhaps as soon as new large ones come out. My guess, a 40 costs the exact same or slightly more than a 20 gig. That said, The iPod mini is made of different materials but still requires things like the click wheel, the processor, and other stuff. Size does not dictate cost, parts dictate costs... not to mention market deman and Job's ego.
But dang I want an iPod mini.
Dang, and here I thought the first post would be about quicktime streaming server.
Oh and remember people, QTSS is OPEN SOURCE. That's right, Apple has a fair number of OSS products, fortunately most of them tie back into the OS so it's great for them. But enjoy working with Quicktime, I'm glad Apple keeps the tech advancing. The player could use an overhaul but the underlying tech is amazing.
If you want to say that four products makes a company better than one... I can reply to that with,
Final Cut Pro, DVD Studio Pro, Logic, Shake, and Motion.
Add to that the fact that Photoshop works pretty well with just about anything that could work with it because everyone makes an effort to make sure PS users don't have any problems with their stuff, I don't see how PS could make Premier better than it makes FCP better.
Well I updated, hopefully this will fix the problems I had after 3.4, I always thought of going back to 3.3 but was always just to lazy. Anyway 3.5 seems to be running well, I noticed it seems to take more RAM on launch. not a big deal I still have a good couple hundred of megs left, but Activity monitor shows more than a quarter on start up of my memory is being used, before it looked like an exact quarter. Strange.
I'm glad they fixed the problem with Safari it crashed a bit much for my taste a while ago. Haven't had the problem recently though. Don't think it broke anything yet. Fireworks still seems to work so I'm thankful:)
We all know Apple has been screwed by the labels ever since this started. That's why the iTMS wasn't able to launch until after a bunch of other stores in different companies because the labels didn't want Apple to have the dominant position they deserve for being the first with the good idea and good marketing.
This is probably also the reason why we STILL don't have the iTMS in Canada!
Oh and for the record, if you're going to abbreviate it, the i is ALWAYS lower case, and everyone does it iTMS not IMS not anything else, and don't act like iTunes is only for selling music, I've been using iTunes since version 1, and the music store came in at version 4.
A not so bright friend at college had a 15 inch LCD iMac... but some how he had mannaged to make it so the screen was off centre on the arm, it bent a bit to one direction... I almost cried every time I had to help him with his network connection... he was not so bright... and did not deserve such a beautiful computer... that said I dropped my iBook a good 20 times this semester... wireless networking was invented for people like me who trip over their ethernet cables.
It's clear Apple is out to lunch on games. However this isn't that bad. What they need to do is cause a paradigm shift on games! Back to the console using the computer.
What they REALLY should start doing is, since both the PS3 and GameCube are going to be PPC based (I doubt M$ would play along) find out some way to work with the GameCube and PS3 for a sweet gaming experience on the Mac.
If the DS has some standard wireless tech it should be able to work with any Mac.
Heck think about it, we already have some great emulators available. How about the iGames ROM Store?
Have everything from classic SNES games, to N64, to GameCube, to whatever revolution will be called.
Get SEGA on board, who knows maybe even Sony could be convinced to play along with PS1 tittles.
Apple could move on games, but to compete with Microsoft, they would need to do it in an entirely different way.
I always find it funny, Microsoft can be the most successful software vendor on the planet, but a company with what maybe 5% of their value (if that) can come up and best them time and time again. With that much cash shouldn't they be able to buy all the developers possible?
Trust me, I was reasonable at first. I was totally nice and stuff, I'm not generally hostile, but the second person I talked to flat out LIED to me, and told me if the reseller said that the unit should be replaced they'd replace it. The reseller said yah this is stupid it's the second time you've brought it in for the same part tell them we say you should get a new one.
And the Apple people when I told them one of their people had said that, the chick started yelling at me and telling me that NO THE OTHER GUY DIDN"T SAY THAT, at which point I got pissed off. And I asked her if I could talk to her supervisor, she said HE"LL TELL YOU THE EXACT SAME THING I DID! I said great then I can yell at her.
After that I started recording my convos. If it had taken them another few days to fix everything up (it took over three days after the logic board failed for the fourth time) I was going to post the incredibly rude conversations they'd had with me on Slashdot. The guy at customer service also was very unhappy that everyone in my dorm was watching while I ranted at them. Apparently they don't like people to know how badly they treat their customers.
Well lets see how would JMS make a new Star Trek... I see an opening of Q and Picard, Picard is dead and Q is talking to him.
Q explains that, everything since the end of TNG was crap, he doesn't buy this slip stream stuff, why does the borg queen have to be scary sexy? And why on earth is a woman with a phaser up her butt running around in the delta quadrant?
So Q decides to change everything, throws the federation into ruins, eradicates the founders, etc. Q turns to Picard and says "now watch the crew on that ship that looks like a flying chicken.. this'll get interesting!"
I will tell you right now, at least up in Canada Apple's customer service is CRAP.
I got my iBook's logic board replaced four times before we demanded it be replaced, we ended up paying the diff of 500 CND, and got my new Alu book which has been fine. But I refuse to recommend any iBooks to anyone. Essentially the only way to deal with Apple is to show them that you're really pissed off about this, and that you NEED your computer. And when they offer you something say that's not good enough. Call a lot, and if need be yell.
My mother also called (I had a fairly heavy course load when it happened and we wanted it ASAP), and she's really good at yelling at customer service.
But you're right Apple saves pennies by jerking customer's chains when they want them replaced, and they really shouldn't. I have been outright lied to, I have been transfered, put on hold for hours, and the whole nine yards... that said... my new PowerBook was worth it... I think...
I used to be the poster boy for most church anything (aside from not looking SUPA HOT), me and two friends used to make all the other youth pastors envious of our youth group because we actually knew our bibles, and could think in a theological manner. I'm attending a small bible college, where I have to make sure to dumb things down for the majority of my peers. I think eventually you just realize there's nothing that makes you feel better about showing off and such. And you just learn to not let anyone know that you're actually any different than them... it sets up for a better reaction when you transcend this reality and become a creature of pure light and good.:)
No kidding, that's what I thought when I first looked at it... don't things like this normally have movie clips, or pictures of kids playing with dogs? Not what looks to be an excerpt of soft-core porn.
"For all you who want to get your jollies at the back of the bus, or in the washroom at work, iRiver has you covered!"
Ahh a bunch of geeks saying what looks good and what doesn't.
OK how many of you wear all black more than once a week?
OK you don't get to talk from now on.
How many of you don't think blue can be worn with orange? OK you also can't talk now.
OK now, does anyone else not like the look of the iPod?
OK good...:)
By the way, I was playing with an iPod at best buy the other day... it's nice, I think I want a mini, but it's nice.

Uhh... if they're not doing it because of Firefox and Thunderbird... and they're really paying homage to this bird... why is the icon green?

My theory, Dell execs didn't want to pay for iPods, so they're just gona trade their worthless Juke whatever's for people's iPods... how underhanded!
