At this low price, is it possible they've taken a turn on this one?
I seriously doubt they will be selling these at a loss. The hardware itself is claimed to be "two or three" times more powerfull than the gamecube. Since the GC launch in 2001 you can assume the technology for the Wii (which is very similiar IIRC) is a fairly affordable price at this point. The controllers themselves dont seem to contain anything terribly expensive, just an innovative use of two existing technologies.
The only things that may possibly affect this will be the addition of 512 MB built-in flash memory, the possiblity of an additional wiimote and the sensor bar itself. But I dont belive that any of these is a deal breaker on a possible 200$ USD launch price, especially with how weak the USD is currently.
Meanwhile, because Apple is not a Windows OEM, that means that Microsoft (or other OEMs) must deal with the support calls made when things go awry. This increases Microsoft's costs, and the costs of Apple's competitors.
Pretty good post, but I have to say this part is off-base. I work for a company outsourced to do Windows XP support, and if your PID shows your not using a valid product key your not going to get support (without paying $35 that is). If it turns out they do have a valid copy of windows, then they will have payed for the OS, and microsoft is up at that point. So from a tech support perspective I only see this as win-win for apple and MS.
I understand there are a lot of seedy, spyware filled porn sites out there, but there are a lot of legitimate big business sites out there as well. These sites could benefit from the domain (tons of good URL's available), and would be happy to be more easily filtered out by software (could be sold to people with children).
I agree that it likely wont stop ALL porn, and there will still be a lot on the.com domains, but I dont see that as a reason not to do something that will help at least a little bit.
Im sure thats why torrents are so popular. People all over the world are so amazed with its 2k download speeds that its taken over as the most popular warez distribution method.
So, under this law, does that offically make using a region code on your DVD player illegal? It is used to bypass region coding problems, and is the "worst kept secret" with most DVD players.
Who cares? If you love your old XBOX games that much, just keep it and play your old XBOX games on it
But what happens when your original XBOX breaks, which seems to happen with certain XBOXes on a fairly regular basis. If you look at the article http://news.ft.com/cms/s/08fce29a-c334-11d9-abf1-0 0000e2511c8.html it seems that Nvidia has stopped making the original XBOX chips, and I would assume this would stop Microsoft from being able to continue manufacture the origional XBOX. While I know this isnt Microsoft's fault (may have something to MS going with ATI for the chipset this time around), that will definatly cut back on sales at least in part.
I dont think backwards compatiblity is used as much for people who owned the previous system. Its more likely a selling point for people who owned a different system (PS2, or GC) and would be able to play all the XBOX games they missed, as well as the XBOX 360 games at launch.
Theres that theory, and theres another that whos to say that he accually caved into to pressure, and wasnt offered, say $10,000 to turn the logs over and close the site. That kind of money is nothing to an organization like the MPAA, and probibly much quicker and effective that suing.
Plus there is no was we would ever know the different.
Firefox is a better browser, period, end of discussion
Better is a relative term, and what is better for you isn't necessarily better for someone else.
I'm not defending IE or trashing firefox (heck, i use opera). But if a page the user wants to be able to visit doesnt render in firefox but does render in IE how can you say firefox is better for them.
I understand the importance of standards, and would love to see IE start to support them better, but just dont blame the users. They are just using what works for them, blame the developers.
Over priced phone that has no must own games is not revevant in the hand held market?
Big surprised there, especially with Sony and Nintendo battling for the same market.

While a lot of people seem to have little resistance to firefox, I have never had such luck.
I have shown multiple people firefox, and opera (my browser of choice), and have had very little luck converting people. Usually they come across a website that doesnt render the same (gamespot.com comes to mind) and then go back to IE. I've also had horrible luck getting people to try mouse gestures, which I can't live without now.
Additional forms of wordplay might include pattern repetition. An example might be "Lloyd's Lloses Llamas" as a headline if Lloyds of London had to settle a claim to a llama farmer.
I dont think you can have it both ways. Either you can't arrest them because they werent promised the child porn, or they were offered and its entrapment.
I'd say what they could do at this point is monitor anyone that did sign up and bust them later.
Maybe youve been watching too much Law and Order...
Why do you feel the need to compare the consoles to PC gaming, they are not direct competitors. Ive never heard anyone say, 'Should I buy a Gamecube, PS2, or... a PC?'. Also, the gamecube controller isnt 'far and away' the worst controller, many people like the controller (I being one of them). The main reason ports are less playable on the GC (which I'll agree to) is because they are designed for the PS2 controller because they have the marketshare. How well do you think you would be able to play metroid prime on a PS2 controller?
Not to say that Nintendo doesn't make great multiplayer games (Zelda: Four Swords, Mario Golf, etc.) but I don't think that is their strong point.
Id have to say it's almost theyre best selling point, as the gamecube is probibly the best system for 4 player games right now. (super monkey ball, mario party, wario ware, and a host of other games)
Slightly off topic, but does anyone know if there is a way to change the order of the items on the taskbar? I put them in a specific order at work, and if one crashes or something and i have to reopen it, it gets annoying.
I work for Windows XP tech support, in Canada. We are not able to get a customer off the phone if they want to go, unless they get offensive. If they want to speak to a manager, I have to get one immediatly.
Also, If you have a suggestion or comment, we are supposed to direct you to www.microsoft.com/mswish.
However, I cant vouch how the other centers (India, Arizona) work.

If you can believe alexa http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details? &range=3m&size=medium&compare_sites=google.com&y=r &url=WWW.YAHOO.COM#top/
They show that google has just recently passed yahoo as the most accessed page on the web, and MSN is a close third. However its not 100% accurate, because IIRC it requires the alexa toolbar to be installed.

I don't think Aunt Susie is going to have installed the file that is blocking the installation of SP2, and if she is then your probibly safe anyways.

Not sure if your intrested in running a beta, but... there is a beta version that does work with gmail.
Just remember to choose "sign in anyways".
Stop spreading misleading information.
They were showing how the MSN search beta would work with other broswers.

Yeah, I also noticed all the positive reviews on the first few pages were submitted by usernames with no capitals or numbers.
If you look for a capital letter or number theyre pretty much all negative.

Because games that are 1-8 years old doesnt mean they get worse over time. They are still good games.
I dont really think a site in a sig on slashdot is the best indication of browser market share, it might be a little biased. ;)
Similarly, Canadians say "hockey" as apposed to the American "ice hockey".
