You know, I'd go for that too. If I could buy levels for $2-4 apiece (longer levels worth more), I'd go for it. It would be fun to have the new experiences from the expansion packs without having to buy 4 levels + random assorted junk that I don't like for another 30 clams. Of course that'll never happen because they just got $30 and only had to design 4 levels (which would take considerably more work than designing 10 new weapons or whatever else they put in the expansion).

Only 18 minutes on the radio? You haven't tried to listen to our local stations, then... it's more like 18 minutes of CONTENT around here.

I don't think it's fair to compare these forms of media to video games, though, because with this, it gives the player a choice that's not there with TV commercials... As long as there's a choice between earning the +5 Sword of Smiting by defeating the Black Knight and buying one from the developer for $4.99, I don't see it as a problem. Now if the ONLY way to get it is to pay the $4.99, I'll stop playing on the spot. But if I've had trouble with the Black Knight, I might just spent 5 bucks to get the sword.

While I'd like to see 7,8, and 9, I'm not sure how feasible that would be. Have you seen recent photos of Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher? Time hasn't been too good to them (to put it mildly!). I guess he'd have to recast at least 7. I don't remember how far into the future the movies go, so I guess if we were following the story of Han and Leia's grandchildren, it would be about right... but IIRC #7 is like 5 years after RotJ. So I guess the question is, who should be the next Luke Skywalker? (Or, more importantly for the /. crowd, who's the next Leia?)

Do "strong opinions" mean people who will string together a paragraph of profanity when you make a negative comment about their favorite game (they're usually in the forums, saying something like "HL2 is b3tt3r th4n Doom3, and Doom3 luv3rz suX!"), or can they back it up their claims with proof? Now if it's one of those artsy types of mags whose articles are just stories about the "one time when I was playing Eve Online and ripped off 3 million credits", I'll probably enjoy it. True or no, that was a pretty good read.

I was SOOO excited 'cause this was "the game I'd been waiting for!"... one of my buddies got it before I did and saved me the money. That could have been an amazing game... Personally my favorite so far is Jedi Academy. While its story was a little weak as far as I was concerned, the amount of control you have over a duel is *really* impressive.

  12. I just can't see a game like this working well. on The Cast at Camp Matrix Online · · Score: 1

The problem with MXO is the problem with SO many other MMORPGS... everyone wants to be the same person. For example, in Star Wars Galaxies, it's a Jedi. Sure there are a few diehards who play successfully as other characters, but most everyone wants to be a jedi in the Star Wars universe. In the Matrix, everyone wants to be "the One" (even though Neo is a hired character, you get my point). In any situation where there is one uber-character who totally kicks butt, there will be NO fun in the MMORPG world. Games like EQ and WoW work because you can be successful as many different types of characters. If there's not a (reasonably) level playing field, then everyone's gonna want to be the character with the advantage. Which makes the game suck.
