True, the CO2 levels were 10 times higher, but the global avaerage temperature was also 2 to 3 times higher as well. Our planet would be quite uncomfortable to us if the planetary average temperature was 90 degrees F. Right now, our global average is about 58 degrees F.
Now, here are some simple facts. CO2 absorbs infrared radiation (heat). The more CO2 in the atmosphere, the more heat is trapped. This warms the planet.
According to the gathered data (ice cores and such), our current CO2 levels are abnormally high.
The conclusion really can't be anymore straight-forward. Excess CO2 means more heat trapped by the planet, which means higher planetary temperatures.
Increases in solar output will only make this worse.
The only real debate is whether or not humans are a significant factor in this. The data is looking very much like we are, but there could still be some unknown source of the increase we have not yet uncovered.
Honestly though, there isn't anything we can do at this point unless we actively started sequestering massive amounts of CO2 from the atmosphere. Whether or not humans are the source is really irrelevant at this point.
As I'm sure will pointed out at least a half-dozen times...
The Constitution enumerates the powers of the government, not the people. Those rights and powers that are not explicitly given to the government, belong to the states and the people. In fact, that's what the 10th ammendment says.
You believe the program is necessary because you, like so many in this country, have become a sniveling coward who doesn't deserve the rights our founding fathers enshrined in the Constitution.
They were faced with a superior enemy, with superior forces, and they did not cower. They did not send a letter to the King of England saying "We're very sorry, we'll never do it again".
But here in the modern day, when terrorist strike, people like you cringe in fear and are more than willing to give up privacy and freedom so that you can have a false sense of security backed by the spin and propaganda machine.
The true patriots of this country do not cower. The true patriots of this country are willing to die for their freedoms.
"Planes are big, fragile machines; it doesn't take very much to knock one out of the sky."
I beg to differ. Jet liners are exceedingly tough and are designed to fly under very bad conditions. Basically, as long as the wings are still attached you have one semi-functioning engine you stand a good chance of landing the plane safely.
Don't belive the Hollywood depictions. Jets have flown and landed safely after having the whole top of the plane torn. The planes and the pilots go through very rigorous testing, and put through situations that you'd never expect (for example, a 747 can survive a barrel roll).
The planes are tough, but not indestructable. A strong enough bomb will knock them out of the air but the bomb would have to do some decent damage to do so (more than just blow a hole in the fuselage).
The simplest organisms adapt the fastest to changing conditions. If the more advanced life forms can't cope, then they die out. This has occured many times in the past and will continue happening in the future.
"I paraphrase the Administration spokesman here, I would rather the government collected my call records than my remains."
You're a worthless fucking coward. Period.
You don't deserve to live in a free country unless you are willing to die for freedom.
Asshats like you everyday wave a flag and call yourselves patriots, and then cower in corners when the slightest challenge to your way of life rears its head.
First, everything posseses some small measure of quantum entanglement, even in a vacuum. It's nature, it happens. So stating that the human brain works on quantum principles is sort of like saying that a rock is made up of atoms.
However, in nature, quantum entanglement happens over very very short distances barring some unusual events (black hole, super nova, etc.). In order for the scientists to see the quantum entaglement effect over a distance of 10 Km, they had to use extremely fine electronics and machinery to induce an artificial state.
Not too mention that it has been proven that quantum entaglement is useless for communication at a distance. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quantum_entanglement for further info regarding this fact.
"So, if the human brain works on quantum principles, and one of those principles is communication at a distance, then that tells me that telepathy is possible."
This argument doesn't hold water, as quantum entanglemet can not be used for communication at a distance. This, of course, isn't even counting the fact that you'd need millions (if not billions) of quantum entangled electrons to fire off a single neuron in your brain. Your brain does not work on the scale of electron spins.
"So then I looked for evidence."
I feel the "intelligent design" reasoning approaching.
"We have a ton of anecdotes in which a mother knows when a child is in danger. However, we have zero anecdotes in which a father knows."
Irrelevant. There are tons of anecdotes of the greek gods coming down and copulating with human females to produce super offspring. I wouldn't use it as eveidence.
Those anecdotes are more a "sign of the times". For example, who's primary responsibility was it to raise children up until the last half of the last century?
"This follows; the child spends 9 months in physical proximity to the mother, exchanging fluids; it's likely that entanglement is happening during that fluid exchange."
The rest of your post follows along the same vein. I'm sorry, but these are really just ludicrous statements that have absolutely no scientific basis to them. You can find a wealth of information on the "twin effect" on the web, along with explanations for the "mother's instict" and various other related issues.
Please do some research into the subject before posting. And who modded this insightful?
"The key phrase is 'suck it up.' You have to realize that you'll be giving up basically 2 years of fun activities to make an investment for your future career."
"Sucking it up" has little to do with why most people can't go for their graduate degrees. Life happens. School takes time and cash. If you're lacking in either category (or for some, both categories) then you're not going to be able to do it.
You also need to take into consideration that what people may want to get their degrees in may not necessarily get them a good job, or any job for that matter. I've got a friend who got his advanced degree in Medieval Studies. Not really a high demand field. After a few years of doing miscellaneous jobs, he finally got one sort of related to his area of interest as an assistant museum curator.
And if you are already working in the field you want, you may not need and advanced degree. Experience is valued far more than any advanced degree.
But if you want a little jumpstart and haven't yet entered into your field (or are just starting) and you have the time and money, get an advanced degree.
One has to wonder weather the telcos should be allowed to do what they want.
Before I get modded to oblivion, just hear me out. The telecos get their way and they start strangling normal traffic in order to "force" everyone to higher tiers. This makes people angry (sort of like how people don't like having their cable messed with). Angry people call up their congress critters and say, "We don't like getting screwed by our ISPs!". Congress critters begin to realize that if they don't do something to bring this back in line, they will be ejected for someone who will.
They get together and realize that the only way to make things "better" is to take the infrastructure away (maintained as a public service) and force the telecos to bid on the use of the network (sort of like how the FCC doles out broadcast frequencies).
Telecos realize they screwed the pooch as their cash cow gets turned into government pork.
It's really sort of a they lose big/we kinda break-even scenario. Maybe. Well....doubt it.:P
Perhaps the answer is really simple. The constants didn't change, but the universe has.
For example, if you measured the speed of light instantaneously now and at some point 12 billion years ago, you'd end up with the same answer (3x10^8 m/s). But as the universe has changed, the definition of a meter and/or a second has changed due to the expansion of the universe. We would see this as a variation in the constants over a large enough scale, but in reality it's space-time that changed.
It would be like drawing a line between two points on a large balloon while it was being blown up. As long as you're "drawing rate" (speed of light) is greater than the speed of expansion, you'd eventually connect the two points. But you didn't change you're drawing rate (speed of light), you changed the framework (universe) in which you were drawing.
I would be interested in studying the differences they've found between the constants and how those differences could be used to tell us more about how the shape/structure of the universe has changed over the course of time.
A de facto guardian that has no power, if you count the number of lawsuits people bring against the school for attempting to be the de facto guardian.
