    Am I missing something here?

Good: Size and ability to download your own PDFs via USB. Price is not that outrageous for an early adopter type product.
$489 is pretty outrageous for something that Sony's product did from the get go and you can get used for about $100.

Even new, Sony's reader is still cheaper than the Kindle DX.

To change the gear a bit, we're just witnessing the beginning of a new proprietary format war just like Microsoft vs. X in the 90s.
I don't want to buy a Sony CD player if I can only play music published by Sony.
Amazon did just that from the get go and it looks like they're opening up a bit but $500 is too much for a mostly locked in format reader.

At this stage in the game, it appears that in order to operate this vehicle, a pilots certificate is required. Once some dimwit congressman introduces a bill to remove such requirement, said congressman should be immediately removed from office before the end of the day.

It takes an average of 72 hours for a pilot to gain his/her certificate whilst 40 hours are required. Of that, certain conditions are required like nighttime operation, solo operation, cross country operation, and recovery from certain scenarios. None of those conditions are required for land based motor vehicle operation licensing (i.e., oil level, tire pressure, nighttime, rain, changing a flat tire) except for parallel parking skills.

There ARE air lanes for east bound, west bound, VFR and IFR traffic. Likely, if this vehicle were to be operated in a populous area, it is most likely to be under some Class B or C airspace which means that communication with Air Traffic Control will be required. I'm sure that if these take off ;-), the FAA will hire staff to accommodate.

So, for those pilots, is this thing steered with the feet or is it taxied with the hands?
Is the throttle/gas controlled by the hand or foot? Does that change for land/air operation?

I'd hate to step on the gas and turn right at the same time while trying to steer and not turn anywhere on land.

The movie (series if it happens) will never be able to compare to the original series. 79 hours of Kirk, Spock, and McCoy (albeit that most of it sucked; the performances were key and carried us through and made it memorable) > 8 hours of new Kirk, Spock, and McCoy.

Also, if the trailers and media are an indication of quality of the film, it appears that McCoy is just a bit part and Uhura is part of the new officer triangle; Kirk, Uhura, and Spock.

All his movies with the exception of First Contact sucked and got progressively worse.

Part of the charm of TOS was the banter of Kirk, McCoy and Spock. It was 3 guys diametrically opposed at work in different situations. That was the formula that none of the other series had. Enterprise was the closest but didn't know what it had and failed to deliver.
