If you want to go fishing for corruption, why not go look in more obvious place like where 24% of the budget gets spent? That would be a much better payoff if you want to clean up corrupt funding. Otherwise, I would file this under "because, space geeks" and stop spending money on the witch hunt.
The Pentagon has been giving away secrets for years[1] (and they aren't the only ones) due to, what can only be assumed to be, very poor security policies. What's more, even the farmed-out[2] work to privatized military industries has fallen victim to much of the same, even jeopardizing the welfare of other countries. Tell me now, how is it these members of the US Congress thinks it's ok to fry Snowdens ass, but ignore the gross negligence of others which is responsible for some very big losses both in the taxpayer money, as well as technical miltary advantages?
(A board meeting, somewhere in the US. Probably Texas. 10:00am..)
CEO: We need to get our operating overhead under control! Look at all these hockey-sticks! (pointing to whiteboard) CF0: We've already closed 500 stores, offshored 90% of our labor and manufacturing, layed off 15000 retail and customer service positions, and cut everyone else to part time so we don't have to pay benefits. There's not much more fat to trim except for... CEO: What? CFO: We get hold of some of those H1B visa workers. I hear they are happy to work for half of minimum wage. CEO: How do we do that? CF0: We cut lunchbreaks to 10 minutes, and make overtime mandatory. Also include rotating weekend shifts for everyone, including managers. We make it so miserable to work here, that people leave. CEO: That doesn't sound like such a great plan. Who is going to run the stores? CF0: We don't do it all at once. We do it regionally. Not everyone can afford to quit right away so there's a good chance there will be some stragglers. We promote them to managers for the time being and advertise to fill the empty positions, but advertise at half the wages the others were getting. Nobody in their right mind will take that job. CEO: That sounds like a really dumb move. How are you going to fill those positions. CFO: We tell the government that there isn't any available labor pool for us to hire from. We show them how nobody has applied for the listings, so we need to bring in H1B visa workers to fill the vacancies. CEO: Hmm... CFO: As an added bonus, I'm sure we can find some taxpayer dollars to subsidize our H1B visa "program". CEO: Great! I'll be out the rest of the day yacht shopping. Hold all my calls.
Or whatever large glob of crap they store the email in. They do have servers, right? Somewhere on those servers is a file, RAID array, partition, SAN or JBOD, Most likely encrypted. Hand over the disks, the encryption keys and whatever else is needed to access that Metatdata.
Have the court appoint someone approved by the EFF to sign an NDA/Gag order/whatever and sift through the Metadata removing items which are of key importance. If those top brass military brats think they are above the law, go around them.
Pretend you're making a crank call but instead of the usual 12-year old stint, just say "I'm calling to voice my support for the Amash amendment. I want the funding stripped from the NSA and given to NASA instead". It will take all of 10 minutes and even if your rep is a douche, at least you don't have to be.
Seriously - until outdoor lighting is revamped on a large scale, there's no point in trying to "cut down" on light pollution of your residential dwelling. Everyone else on your street, along with the city, is just going to keep doing what they always been doing.
The better question is "What can I do to get a government mandate rolling to limit the types of outdoor lighting in order to restore visibility of the night sky?"
Clearly the only thing left to do is contract out several hundred billion dollars to privatized military manufacturers to offshore the immediate production in China of military drones which can be flown by congressmen and Top Brass during their lunch hours.
Depends on the life which is trying to adapt. Sealife, in the instance of rising sea levels, probably has a better chance at adapting than air sucking land dwellers.
By the end of 2015 USB sticks will probably be twice that capacity and 4 times faster without needing a special drive to write/read them.

- zero shutter lag
- touch-targeting manual/auto focus mode
- shutter 'spaz' mode
I've always been a little frustrated with the shutter lag on my smartphones. Hope CM continues to improve on it.

We're talking about a high risk vulnerability that could cost some random person their life.
Exactly. So, don't blame the customer when they find out your crappy design isn't up to real-world safety tests.
TimeMachine takes about 15 minutes to do the prep work
Yes, because naturally he's using a ma. He must have certainly been in a Starbucks or Panera when he posted as well. Around the Bay area nonetheless.
This is what's known as "spin" in non-apple ecosystems. I know Apple would never lie to you though, so let's just call it "iSpin"
And let them know how you feel about it.

Seem like the better option now. At least you know what the CA has done with the master key.
try driving for more than 30 minutes with two smallish kids in the car
Just let them out at the next gas station.
but all of that kind of seems piddling compared to the effect his actions will have on billions of the world's poorest people.
Yep. Especially when teamed up with Monsanto*. The actions will have quite an impact.

It's the "government on top" attack.
Don't you mean "government from behind"?

*Two* open source offerings competing against each other instead of against Microsoft.
too busy fighting politics to actually improve any infrastructure
"misappropriation of tax dollars" would be a more accurate way of describing the measly end results of infrastructure improvements.

Who wrote "Nobelist"?
This is Slashdot. Find comfort in the fact it wasn't spelled NodeList();
Hope most of it is under GPL.
Bah.. Decided entire TFA was trash once I read that line.
