    So we should just let people who are smuggling drugs lead countries?(Noriega) A fairly elected leader is much different than an drug dealer, or a dictator(Castro). I may hate Chirac but that doesn't mean that I or anyone else supports or would try to remove him.

    For developing VB.NET on Windows without paying a cent, you could use SharpDevelop or use the personal edition of Borland's C#Builder. I haven't used them myself for VB.NET(in love w/ C#), but they do support it. :)

    Just because you don't have $800 + $ for other stuff doesn't mean that you aren't serious about Apache, and ready for these "intense talks". Seriousness shouldn't be judged by the amount of money that you're willing to blow(for lack of a better term, I'm sure ApacheCon'll be great).

    Not only should it be illegal, but the people from the ISPs should go to prison. Yeah, it might be easier and cheaper for the justice department to do away with all trials and just play jury/judge/executioner but that's not the way it works. The ISP should be required to actually investigate it and have real, solid evidence before they go and do something. On a sidenote, I wonder what we could "copyright" on the RIAA's site...

    I would doubt the bandwidth and electricity used would amount to much more than a few dollars. If people got fired for that, anyone who took a pen from work, or a notepad, could be fired. As could someone who browsed slashdot(hey, it uses bandwidth, and the browser makes your CPU work a little harder). I mean its not like this guys is looking at pr0n, he's using helping a noble organization.

    Cheney's not really a representitive though. His main job is to assist the president, and occasionaly work in congress, whereas Edwards' one and only job is to represent his state in congress.

    A lot of people are talking about the IMAP and forwarding, and how they would probably make you pay once its out of beta. Why couldn't they do something, so where each message had the ads added to it before it was forwarded or sent to the IMAP client. I'm sure google could do something so it would just look like regular Google text ads which aren't that intrusive. Google could also maybe just add one message that would contain the text ads, every time you checked your email(atleast for IMAP).

    Trillian is pretty good. It's payware(well there's a Lite version but its a complete POS), not open source, and only available for Windows(it works reasonably well in wine though). It supports AIM, ICQ, IRC, MSN, Yahoo by default. It also supports plugins, one of which is for Jabber. There are also plugins to check your email, to read RSS, and to check stocks(as well as many others). It's also skinnable.

    Is this theft, or atleast a scam by PayPal? While I can understand them not personally caring for gambling or adult sites, but their personal opinions shouldn't affect their customers. IANAL, but this doesn't sound any different than if I were to see that you're a Microsoft employee, and charge you $500 extra on a purchase. I could just have some little sign that no one can read that states you must agree to pay a lot extra if you work for M$ before entering the store.

    Well of course there will be many reasons to upgrade. The new version of Microsoft Office, RRG Edition(Really Really Good), that offers a two-fold increase in the time it takes to start the apps and 25% more crashes, will only be available for Longhorn. And to "insure security"(maybe the security of Billy's market share?) the Longhorn Desktop OS will be the only desktop OS that will be allowed to work with the Longhorn Server windows-domains. But wait! For a limited time only, you'll get a a FREE Billy Gates bobble head toy when you order Windows Longhorn. :P

    A byte is 8 bits. So, 20 bits/sec = 2.5 bytes/sec. 10 Gbs = 1,310,720 bytes per second = 1.25 Gigabytes per second. In other word...unbelievable friggin fast. What makes it really fun is that, your 120 GB hard drive isn't really 120 GB. Its really about 114 gigs becuase the hard drive manufactures use 1 KB = 1000 bytes, instead of 1 KB = 1024 bytes.

    While, granted, it may not work very well for slang/etc, why not have like some sort of translation. Like each person chooses there language, and when you view a thread/message/whatever the hell Orkut has, it translates it looks to see if the posters language is different than yours, and if so, translates it to your language. Google does innovative things, just look at Gmail, why not do something like this(AFAIK I haven't seen anything that does this automatically).

    1. Purposely put defects into phones and their service so they know the users will call the support/customer service. 2. Charge them several times the normal rate(for minutes) while they wait on hold for hours. 3. Profit!
