  1. Need a change of focus on Indian Call Centre Worker Sells Customer Details · · Score: 1

There's been a lot of focus on internet security and encryption of sensitive data. But as we see - it's not during the transaction that it's dangerous. It's at the end point. Do you thrust whom you're giving your details?

I recently bought a new PC. I paid the same as I did for my first Intel PC 15 years ago. Yes, cheap PC's has gotten cheaper, but the price for a top notch PC with all the bells and whistles has been more or less stable for quite some time.

  10. Spyware? How about spam proxies on House Passes Spyware Bills · · Score: 1

Great! This would effectively outlaw spam, since most spam is sent through compromised windows boxes acting as proxies.

Yes, I was being sarcastic. I'm still trying to figure out why they made this move. It doesn't seem to fit into the "organizing the world" mantra?

You're not supposed to read it in TeX, you're supposed to export to PDF or PS or RTF or somesuch...
But of course. All my documentation consisted of a TeX file, a DVI file and finally a PDF file. All open formats. But none of them can be loaded into MS-Word and edited. The emails where from developers who inherited the projects and wanted to update the documentation. My point was, that even though we have open document formats, we will still have to struggle with proprietary Word files, because that's what "they" use.

  15. Open formats is not the holy grail on Open Document Format Approved · · Score: 2, Interesting

Back when I was a developer I wrote all my documentation in TeX. I often get emails requesting a Word version of my documentation. Even though TeX is quite open.

There's one cool thing about this TLD. You have to provide proof of your profession to buy such a domain. Now that's probably the reason why I've never seen a spam advertising a .pro domain.

Here's a list of the biggest differences (I've learnt how Americans use the phone by watching hollywood movies):
    • Never say goodbye. Just hang up - the person at the other end obviously knows the conversation is over.
    • Always repeat what the other person is saying out loud.
    • Repeatedly taps the hook if the phone dies. "Hello!?" *tap* *tap* *tap* as if that will magically restore the line.

And so they did. Try, that is. But was told that it was impossible for an A-item to become a B-item. They believed it, and didn't object further. This is bogus, because there's nothing that prevents A-items to be ruled as B-items. I smell a rat!
