  2. Haven't you ever watched "Cops"? on Justice Department's Bio-terror Mistake · · Score: 1

Why do you think it keeps running and running for so many years, as well as so many other police reality shows? Not to mention the scary/funny detective and forensic crime shows? To reinforce one point. The police are infallible. Repeat after me, the police are infallible. So of course, if the police arrest someone, there must be something they're guilty of. After all see the point above. And if you make enough laws, eventually everyone is technically guilty of something.

  3. Please attempt to inform yourself... on Eavesdropping Didn't Help Uncover Terrorist Plot · · Score: 1

...before making such incredibly asinine statements. I suggest reading up on (but not limited to) the following:

1: The first ten amendments of the US Constitution,
2: The past, oh, TWO HUNDRED YEARS or so of judicial precedent, and
3: The definition of "common carrier"

And perhaps you'll then realize why your statements are not merely stupid, but ignorant to an amazing degree. Perhaps. I don't hold out a lot of hope, but maybe you'll surprise us.

  4. Uhm... no... on How SBC (AT&T) Pillaged South Africa's Economy · · Score: 1

"They are "supposed" to do (whatever that means) whatever is in my and everybody else's best interests."

No, they are supposed to maximize return on capital to their investors. By law that is what they are chartered to do, and the board and management can be held criminally and civilly liable for failing to do so. As long as they are breaking no laws (or at least aren't currently under indictment), ethics don't enter into the picture. Only profit.

    Milk?

Look in any dairy case in any convenience store and see how much shelf space is given to plain milk as opposed to milk drinks containing a high percentage of HFCS.

    Meat?

Look at the ingredients list of most processed meats. There among the lips and snouts and hooves and eyelids and anuses. HFCS.

    Coffee?

Uhm... ever been to a Starbucks?

The problem would seem to be one of semantics - the pure items vs. the forms many people consume regularly.

  12. Check it again... on Palm Unveils Foleo, Linux-Based "Mobile Companion" · · Score: 1

"Update: As noted in the comments, apparently the Foleo is open to external applications. As Palm puts it, "Its Linux-based operating system and built-in Wi-Fi radio make it easy for developers to create new applications that can be installed with a single click in the browser" -- though Palm's not released any information for developers, nor given any indication of how strongly it will engage the open-source community."

From the title ("Stick A Fork In Palm") to the tone of the rest of the article, it sounds more like Techdirt's got a problem of some kind with Palm than anything else.

I don't see that a strong federal government has accomplished much except to allow the more reactionary states to hobble the progressive ones. Frankly, as far as I'm concerned, if large groups of the population of the North American land mass choose to remain shithouse poor, pig ignorant, and trembling in fear of their imaginary antagonist^W^Wgod, let them. As long as they isolate their madness to themselves and leave us the fuck alone, they're welcome to push the envelope with regard to their chosen idiocy.

Do you really think there's a PC manufacturer out there who wouldn't want to tap into the Wal-Mart distribution channel?

Dell is geared up with the kind of manufacturing capacity to supply systems to Wal-Mart at the ridiculously low prices they demand. Landing a huge sales channel like this is hardly desperation on Dell's part. This is a win for both companies. Maybe even for those of us who buy systems, too.
