Point taken, it isn't as clean cut as I made out. There has to be a balance between law enforcement and throwing money at humanitarian efforts. In this example in particular, and IMHO, I think the balance is skewed. I personally can't see how awarding the MPAA that much money is for the greater good.
It is sad to think of it like that. I guess ensuring copyright laws are enforced is worth more than human lives. The current administration seems to spend more money killing people than helping them - they now think the Iraq war will cost the US $4 trillion dollars by the end of it. $3m seems like a pittance next to numbers like these.
'It probably won't surprise you'. That statement sums up the mess in itself. People really SHOULD be surprised when a government, or government agency lies to, and deceives them.
I 100% agree. Just because one understands how to use 'Java' doesn't mean they know how to use Java for web development, enterprise development, games development etc etc. Even if you stick to one niche such as enterprise development, you could spend a lifetime learning all of the API's. So yeah sure, play around and see what's out there, IMHO tho, in the real world it is extremely difficult to be a guru in more than one language.
In a nutshell,, we have to narrow down the search criteria so we don't have to search every planet for signs of life. Whether it is a right assumption or not, it gives some direction.
I have recently bought a Nokia internet tablet, and I was surprised by just how many networks are open. I can pretty much go to any suburb and use my device on someone else's network if I want. And you know what? It's great! If I am lost, I flick open my device and load up a mapping program and viola, I can find my way again. It also means I can check Slashdot from anywhere;).
To me it's not that it is hard, it is that your page will never get cached properly by search engines if you AJAX'ify your pages. It also limits your target audience as, for example, mobile phones don't support AJAX. And it also has some accesibilty problems.
If none of these things bother you, then AJAX is fine, and I would recommend something like ICEfaces. Unfortunately I personally have not come across a project that doesn't need one of the three main concerns I listed above.
Billions on wars? Last I heard the figure was 1.5 TRILLION from USA alone. And that is the amount they have made public, how much have they really spent?
It sounds like you want Blender, but with an interface similar to other products?
IMHO the Blender interface is superior to other tools, but yes, it takes a while to learn. So, to me at least, by asking them to make the interface similar to other products, you are asking them to make their interface worse for the sake of familiarity.
You're argument relies on the fact that a parents will is final and society shouldn't force the kids to go against the parents wishes. I say this argument only goes so far before society must step in and become ever so slightly paternalistic. As an extreme example, parents may wish there kids to go out and murder people instead of going to school - so you see, society has to step in somewhere. The question here is, has the shop attendant crossed that line? IMHO, I don't think he has.
I agree it is the companies 'fault'. But as a business, it has to be worth their time developing and maintaining the *nix wireless drivers. I believe with Dell and now HP coming on board the Linux bandwagon, card manufacturers will sit up and smell the opportunity, and we should start to see more commercial drivers available.
And is it right that you should deny someone the right to have faith in the "Great Pumpkin"?
IMHO everyone should have faith in something bigger than themselves, it gives you perspective. Whether it is obvious to others that your faith is misplaced is irrelevant, so long as it is helping you become a better person.
This is a general Linux problem, not a Ubuntu only problem. But, I would like to see better wireless card support. This is one area where Linux falls down. Somehow there needs to be a closer relationship between wireless chipset manufacturers and the Linux community. How? I am not sure, I just know it is hurting the Linux rep. Is it Linux's fault? Of course not, its the manufacturers fault. but if Linux wants to be taken more seriously as a desktop solution this is the number one place to start IMHO.
As for getting mass migration to Ubuntu? Beryl, Beryl, Beryl! Average Joe Smo doesn't care about security or stability, they care about eye candy and bragging rights. Beryl is impressive enough to show off and impress friends. Some might even install it and show there friends.
I will second that, I would love a similar card here in New Zealand. It would almost be worth buying Vista on it for a bit of a laugh. Actually, I can't believe I just said 'buy' and 'Vista' in the same sentence, I take it back!

Oh to be a doctor in those days. I don't think anyone died from Female Hysteria tho :).

You're right. When the AI grows up a name like Rascal is just going to embarrass him in front of all of his other AI friends.
If it works like some cars, you still need to push a button to unlock the door, but the button won't do anything unless the RFID is near it.

And some Software Developers/Engineers work on life critical systems...
No, I think it is those damn lasers attached to the sharks
Yes - they do experiments in their volcanic super-villan hideaways. Now, if only they could grow artificial lasers...

No, you are not the only one. Check out Java FX if you haven't already.

So now I won't be traveling to the states or Japan. I wonder how much moves like this affect tourism.
Well, to be fear - that's only because I am always write.

Yeah, just like a box of Lego, only cheaper... :).
The poor are now having more surviving children than the rich. So are we now going to go back to the middle ages?
