I always wondered why, other than to discourage serving of anything off cable, why they give such a low upstream. The limit for a coax cable with the current technology is approx. 38 mb/s down, and 10 mb/s up. That is almost a 4:1 ratio, why is your speed not the same. Your getting about a 24:1 ratio on your upstream(assuming 256kbit, which is what it is here). That is an insane ratio. I don't really know how much of a headache it would be for the cable companies to open up the upstream a little, even 1 mbit would be sufficient. With 38 mb of band and 7 users using all of their bandwidth at once you've oversold the line by 4 mbit. But those same users only consume 1.7 mbit out of 10. That is 110% overutilization of the downstream and 17% utilization of the upstream, where is all this excess upstream usage going?
What I don't understand is why this made it to the frontpage, seriously how many people on slashdot don't know what a RAID is? I've known what RAID is since I was 13. What kind of crap passes for a submission nowaday anyways?
EEEEEENNNNNNNNNNNNTTTTTTTTTTT!!!! Wrong
The A/C compressor has this thing called a clutch that while the A/C is off the pulley spins freely with no load other than its own weight. When you turn on the air the clutch enguages and voila nice cold air.
However unlikely it sounds this would save gas. It takes a lot of engine power to run the compressor for the A/C. Don't you notice how your engine bogs down when you turn the A/C on? You have to apply more throttle when the A/C is on to produce the same amount of acceleration or hold a speed than when it isn't on, thus you burn more gas. However the alternator on a car takes significantly less of the engines power, most people when driving don't even notice when the alternator kicks on, so the system can be massively inefficient but still save on fuel simply because it is taking electrical power instead of mechanical power directly from the engine.
From my experience parents don't care. I was in Gamestop and this kid, mabye 10 years old was getting SA, and the clerk advised the parents that it had very graphic violence and explained the main goal of the game and the parents basically ignored him and went ahead and bought it. They really don't care.
I think Bender used the correct term;
Fry: Wait! You're the only friend I have!
Bender: You really want a robot for a friend?
Fry: Yeah, ever since I was six.
Bender: Well, OK. But I don't want people thinking we're robo-sexuals, so if anyone asks, you're my debugger.
yea I got bored okay, but yes it is a mini-game, you have to push up and down in rhythm with CJ's strokes to fill up the excitement meter, and you can change positions which include; missionary, some weird position, and doggy. You can also change the views. Aside from that it is only interesting/funny for mabye the first time, then it is just annoying because normally when you complete a date and she asks you if you want coffee, your progress goes up none the less, but with the mod if you let the excitement meter go all the way down, it tells you that it is a crime to not please a woman and you progress goes down. Also there is no variety in what happens, you go inside she is naked and you are clothed, she goes down on you for like 10 seconds and then the minigame starts, the claims of pornographic are greatly, greatly exagerrated. The only thing even remotely pornographic besided the movements is you see her tits occasionally, and the dialog during the mini-game is as dull and funny as the dialog in a cheesy porno movie. So don't really waste your time or bandwidth to download the movie of it or even enter the codes to see it, not worth it.
I have owned 2 eMachines computers and both were stout little machines. The last one I bought from Wal-Mart about 2 years ago, is an AMD XP 2700+ had 512 MB Ram, 80 Gig HD, 4x DVD-RW, 16X DVD, and was $800(I paid $700 because I worked for wally world) with a descent 17 inch monitor. The other is an AMD XP 2400+ with 512 MB of ram, 100 gig HD, 40x CD-RW, and a 16x DVD-ROM. I can't remember how much that one was, but both of them were well worth what I spent on them and I haven't had any problems with them at all.
I for one welcome our new multi-national corporate overlords, and our new sideband leeching pirate overlords, and our new slashdot dupe overlords in a couple of days.
That is all for now.
Taxi Stands: Dispatcher-operated taxi stands are available at major Manhattan transportation terminals, such as the Port Authority Bus Terminal, Penn Station, Grand Central Terminal, Peter Minuit Plaza, the World Trade Center and the Citicorp Center. There are also 207 other taxi stands located at major transit hubs, office and retail centers, hospitals and hotels throughout Manhattan.
What about this
Scientists found remainds of soft tissue(namely bone marrow) inside the thigh bone of a T-Rex. The possibility of extracting DNA from it is indeed very high.
Just my 2 and 1/2 cents
I don't really see the point in this, granted there are a lot of people in the world with that much disposable income but that can't seriously be enough to make this be a profitable venture. I didn't RTFA but how many people fit into this spacecraft?
Unless you purchase one of those new fandangled phones that operate in the 4.8GHz spectrum. Then your screwed again.

Me fail english, thats unpossible!
mabye uncivilized would be the correct usage, i don't think incivilized is even a word.
Nope, just as I had suspected.

Maple Leaf . . HA
That a luxury, in my day we had to use a flat rock or you left hand. Never touch anyones left hand . . .

hmm . . . interesting lots of acronyms. . .
or lots of hard liquor, and an opportune moment.
Sorry, I just figured the linked page was horribly out of date. Go figure.
They still have a cabbie terminal? . .
ha, grammar nazi made a spelling error.
Hmm I dunno which one is funnier . .
In Soviet Russia Slashdot dupes you
or
In Soviet Russia Windows infects you
wait . . that second one. . . excellent, its funny because its true, and not only in Soviet Russia
While that still happened it was delayed by about 15 years, it happened in the late nineties instead of the eighties. Still kind of weird.

Mirrordot Science magazine is running a story on the DIMES project, which has ventured to map the structure and evolution of the Internet (PDF) using open source distributed clients in the style of SETI@Home and such. DIMES has already collected more than 40 Millions measurements which resulted in some nice pictures and several scientific presentations
