I think i am the only U.S. teacher on the planet who thinks the U.S. teachers get paid plenty. Most of my teacher friends are making 40-50K per year, and have a million dollar retirement pension coming. $50k per year for 20 years = 1 million, though they may live for 30 years thus 1.5 million.
Anyway, I think teachers get paid enough. The reason we have so many crappy teachers is that the crappy ones are not removed. Everyoen knows who the crappy teachers are in each school, but the administration hires the teacher that makes their life the easiest (also coaches, probably will be quiet and not complain). Instead, the administrators need to have some sort of reason to hire good teachers. I am probably the only teacher in favor of testing each and every year. I don't care if the teachers "teach to the test". If the test is written correctly, teaching to the test is exactly what should happen.
Fire the teachers whose students don't learn anything over the course of 1 year. In order to do this, you have to test each and every student each year. FIRE THEM ALL if you have to.
Sorry about that, I am no longer teaching. The system just disgusted me.
My turn br>
I left teaching after only a few years My low point happened when I saw a student cheating on a test. I came up to her and told her she knew my cheating policy, and then proceded to toss her test in the trash. She then pleaded to me that she was only looking at the other peoples answers, not cheating. I thought this was a fluke, but then a week later, again. Another student, same excuse, "I was just copying".
As a former teacher, let me just say that these studies probably are not very accurate. About 3/4 of the students just copied what they seen others had written. Also, the students who coppied generally choose the least intelligent person to copy from (I don't know why, but they do). In summary, I don't doubt that our students are this stuipid, I once tried to change them, but I do doubt that any statistic taken from school age children can be accurate. Most of them are too lazy to even breath and grow hair. As you can see, I left teaching after being disgusted with it. It is a reflection of the American culture.
For those of you too lazy or tired to click my link......

For the same reason Microsoft does what it does.....for money silly. Slashdot posts information that it believes we want to read. And, since you and I have both spent considerable time commenting on the article, it worked. Slashdot 1, Us 0.
I dont know about power, but I have a 9200 built by Sapphire. I purcahsed 3 of them to upgrade my Xpert 2000 AGP cards (3 computers). 2/3 worked great. Love them! 1/3 turned out not to work with my Asus Mobo (not the cards fault). I still am upset at Asus for selling me this piece of junk. BUT, on my Abit mobo, and my ECS mobo, the other 2 work GREAT! The 9200 has 128mb of ram. Also, it is the 9200se, which is supposed to be weaker, but it works great. Plays BF1942 like a champ. I got mine for just under $50. It doesn't have a fan to worry about, just a massive heat sink. I have a case fan pointed at that sink though, just to be sure it last a long time.
I asked because all the "people" i know use the classic view, but the computers at their place of work all have them in the XP view. I can start to feel the gag reflex start when I see that darn Telletubbies Green Hilly Background. The file is named "Bliss" or something like that. If that is bliss........
Windows ME needed to exist for the same reason that all other MS products exist. For $$$. But, on an optomistic note, while I only used it because 2k wouldn't run on my defected Asus system, I found ME to be MUCH more stable than 98. Also, installing hardware and software was much easier.
And about the XP UI, am I the only one who immidiatly changes it to the "Classic View"? Supposidly MS spent a ton of time and money looking at user efficiency when they designed the UI for XP, but I just don't see it. Am I the only one?
Same here in central Wisconsin. You can get 384/128 dsl along with the larger cable package all included for about 40 per month. It has been around here for over a year already, though the first few months were in a test phase. Many people plan on switching to it as soon as their 1 year agreements with Cable or Dish are done. Maybe now the cable company will lower their massive price!
The first wave of the Original Playstations (now PSone), a long long long time ago, were very defective as well. I was one of the idiots who rushed out and spend $300 on one, just to find out it failed after only an hour of use. I was told that the entire first batch from one of the plants was bad. Whatever that means.
Sony was great about it though! They had a courrier drop a LOANER off the next day, and pick up my old one (it actually said LOANER on the reciept he gave me, and I was told it was temporary, which didn't make sence). A month later I was supposed to call them to find out when I would be getting MY system back. They said they were sorry, they could not find it. So, I still have the loaner, years later. And when it breaks, I will be contacting Sony to see if they have found mine yet. I have had this one since the week they were released though, without problems.
A friend near Minneapolis MN doesn't get the link either. While I get it near Madison WI. It must be a geographical thing, though I am not sure why. There is less data on my area than his, yet I have the link. Go figure.
And after the virtual town hall meeting, they will all go to the virtual whitehouse for a good ol' time. Whitehouse.com i believe it is!
Actually, bush will likely not go, as I believe he can't come up with the logic to defend his stance against stem cell research. He will lose this battle.
" I dont think you would here arguments from anybody against gene therapy that would give women larger, firmer boobs."
My wife would argue it! She knows I am already distracted easily, I don't need any BIGGER distractions.
Yes, thats right, a slashdot reader who is married. The key is........you don't let her know that topless computers excite you as much as topless women.
"In one hundred years, we'll look on unaltered humans the same way we view the Amish or Bush people today."
You mean like G.W.?
You are right though. The North Koreans are already raised in school to hate the U.S.. Now, genetically alter them to be smarter, stronger, and full of more vengence than Americans. Can you say super-terrorists? I better get my bio-rifle.
Yes, but see, some of us are in the Central timezone, so you need to add...errrr....subtract........errr
Damn it, why can't the olympics ever be held in Wisconsin?
Somehow, the first thing that comes to my mind is how the gene modding could be used to create ultra-mega-super-models.
mmmmmmmmmm, ultra-mega-super-models
I suppose the athletes will have to just be honest then. No more "vitamines and nutritional supplaments".

Also, it is interesting to read exactly what the ratings mean!

Did i miss something in the last few weeks? Why would pc gaming be dead?

Sorry, I am not a big baseball fan. I had to look up "bush-league". It is sad, I know. But, for the rest of you, here it is....Google
Well, this combined with the NFL thingy leads me to think I will not be purchasing any more sports games. I can live with my old sports games.
10 yard fight
John Elway's Quarterback
Bases Loaded II
And the best game ever, BATTLETOADS!
Sorry, battletoads that wasn't a sports game, but it came to mind for some reason.

"Sometimes they have to add a nude/sex scene that has nothing to do with the plot, just to get that all-important rating."
And to this I say, I LOVE AMERICA!
So, what happens in my flight sim when I Sneeze?
I can see it now, just before landing you start to feel a tickle in your nose.
LOL

Well, I for one don't plan on getting slapped. Well, not initially anyway. Although lets not rule out that some of her friends might be a bit violent.
Ah, who am i kidding? PLEASE DON't hurt me my Supreme Master Ultra-Mega-Supermodel.
Your ideas are intriguing, and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter!
Nah, she already wants a reduction! I keep telling her, we just can't afford it! Now I just have to be sure we can never afford it!
Anyway, how would I ever be able to get all 3 required pills, ground into a fine dust, 2 times per day, into her food?
