Because he said "I pay $13/month for the right to listen to music free of adverts." Music. When you say, "only about 60 of them do not have adverts", those 60 channels are, in fact, MUSIC channels.
Well under that same thought process, are you saying that people LOVE the current experience they have with their "dell" pop-ups, sluggish performance due to spyware and viruses, and blue screens?
Of course, all the movie industry's blustering about piracy being a "grave concern" is mostly unfounded, but the numbers don't lie. Most movies, if they are profitable, are only profitable because of the DVD release.
Very true - which is why simultaneous theatrical and DVD release SHOULD recoup these costs quicker and bring in larger profits. One marketing campaign for the movie - theatre and DVD releases. There's no need to spend marketing dollars on the DVD release 6 months later, as it's already out, it's already been marketed, and people are also more likely to pick up the film on the way out if it was good.
Popular Science got it wrong. They took a wrong turn down a road in the Nevada Desert and concluded that A51 was 'moved.' Google on it and you'll find what I mean.
I don't think it's meant to be impressive on a monetary scale. I think the significance of the PR is that TV show downloads are a viable market, and hey, we're Apple, and it just so happens we're pioneering it in an economic way.
Does it suck, or is it impressive? I, for one, don't find including thousands upon thousands of drivers 'impressive.' It's not a mystical feat of engineering to support a load of silicon. It's all up to the vendors to provide MS with their hardware's driver. MS tests it, it works, and they bundle it into the OS.
It probably means that since PHP is (designed to be) so easy, there are many more programmers out there for for the task. Many of these companies who consider PHP programmers to be dime a dozen, however, probably end up with a lot of sloppy code.
You do realize that Stern only needs to be responsible for 1m subscribers and anything over that makes his deal a moneymaker for the company? Their losses are SHRINKING each quarter, and their growth rate continues to increase.
I'll be willing to bet you weren't around when the question was said aloud, "Why would I ever pay for television?" Please refrain from posting unless you have at least a shred of knowledge on the subject, which you obviously don't.
Not for the labels. They get 3rd parties (Apple, Real) to handle that aspect. They sell songs for the wholesale.65 according to the article, and that's what they pocket.
What REALLY pisses me off about this whole sham, is the fact that digital downloads are already pure profit for the labels. No packaging, distribution, or printing. Pure profit. And it's just not enough to fill their bloated CEO's coffers. Sue your customers for downloading illegally, but charge them an arm and a leg to do it the "right" way. Piss off, RIAA. You'll never see another dime from me.
With each more-complex layer of anti-copy protection, doesn't that make the discs less forgiving of scratches and smudges, given that the player has to use all this overhead to compensate for the enhanced security?
You're so wrong, it borders on comical. Add to the fact that you've been modded interesting and this makes for a regular HBO comedy hour.
As far as the signal goes, blame your rental service for botching the install, not the satelitte radio company. If your antenna can see the bird, you'll get signal. If it's not working then, that's not SIRIUS' fault. XM works the same way, mind you. Try using it inside a metal building that you aren't on the roof of.
Furthermore, your comment about Howard Stern, "who won't be on for a few years yet." Or a bit more than 10 months. I'd wager that your "experience" with SIRIUS is horseshit to begin with.

Since Sierra On-Line stopped making the *Quest Games (King, Space, Police, Quest for Glory), things have gone down the tubes pretty hard.
But, being a /. poster, how would you know what the latter was like? :)

Come on, how do you really feel about it?

I was going to read it, but then I saw that, and decided that if I want to be told what to think, I'll listen to the voices in my head.
*WooooooooooooooooooooSH* :)

What's your opinion on the P4/D1 Access Cards that DirecTV currently employs?

Hello, Troll.

They actually call themselves that? Come on - like any retail store paying their clerks $7 an hour is going to have top notch techies there.
People are stupid. That's how these businesses stay afloat.

Unless it comes with a mechanized cd stacker/arm, there's nothing automatic about me having to drop in a single CD at a time.
So much for the "history," anyway. Going ALLLLL the way back to 1996 with the N64? Wow, talk about oldschool. :rolleyes

What's to stop someone from the MPAA from getting in on a exeem-sourced torrent and just looking at traffic patterns to source out uploaders?
Mod parent up insightful. This guy's right on the money.
Sirius has three, but they're in Low Earth Orbit so at any given time one is on the opposite side of the world and useless.
And saving its batteries, while XM has to keep sending more up to replace their old ones.

This guy's obviously a troll. A well-fed one.
The satellites are pointed in such a way that they cover North America only. We're not talking radio waves here. Ever heard of spot-beaming?
