    I think the average PC user upgrades when the computer gets unusable with spyware and viruses. Its easier to plunk down $2000 instead of wiping the computer clean. PC manufactures should thank spyware and virus writers. The average PC user would never upgrade again because all they are doing is web surfing.

    Bush might be an idiot on a lot of issues, but on that one issue he 'gets it' and more importantly has the right ideas about how to win.

    Really? Like start a war with a nation that doesn't have radical Islamics running the nation, so it can be replaced by a group of radical Islamics?

    Are people seriously going to vote for the better candidate on copyrights and making backup copies of software? There seems to be more important issues like Iraq, health care, the economy, and terrorism to judge candidates for president. I know /. is full of nerds, but speaking as a nerd I don't vote like a nerd.

    Judging from his gun record (banning tools because of how they are used) Kerry will go full force into banning things that the DMCA make illegal.

    Whoa. I think I must have missed a few hundred steps on the logical thinking you are doing.

    A more logical conclusion could be drawn from which candidate is getting all the corporate money.

    BTW - Kerry only supports assault weapon bans and not other types of guns.

    I actually love all those collections and buy every one for my PS2 and Gameboy SP. Why? Convenience. I am not carrying around an Atari on a plane. Plus the games are a lot better with the modern controllers (exception Midway for PS2 which has horrible controls) than the horrible Atari joysticks that always broke. I actually can kick ass at Pitfall now. With the Atari joystick, Pitfall was frustrating. (Probably causing the many breakages of Atari joysticks.)

    Yeah, also sounds like all those pirates downloading music from the internet when they say that the item is priced to high! No, it's just easier to steal music then save up to buy the album. They can say it's all because the RIAA is over-pricing music they have a legal right to price at whatever they want. Those criminals need to be put behind bars.

    Huh? Are you being serious? Dude not everything is about pirating music. If you are feeling guilty about stealing music, maybe you should pay for it.

    Really? Sounds like the same false argument shop lifters make when trying to say there isn't work for them. No, it is just easier to steal/write malicious code then get a real job. They can say his code is a work of art, but it is still easier than trying to work at a corporation or starting a legitimate business. This criminal needs to get off his ass and get a real job.

    Are you serious? So when the next shuttle explodes we can have the radioactive material distrubuted higher in the atmosphere? You have to accept that accidents will always happen. The problem with nuclear accidents is that they kill hundreds of people and cause extreme environmental damage for a hundred years. Nuclear energy isn't worth the risk. Your right that a long term solution is solar or fusion. Star Trek IV will be right that nuclear energy was a brief solution for energy. The part in Star Trek IV, where humpback whales will prevent a energy sucking probe from destroying earth, will be wrong.

    I am impressed by the SQL but dude you should learn to write Oracle stored procedures. This obviously is a reporting query getting aggregates. I don't know your requirements but if it is a Crystal or Actuate report you can call a stored procedure. It would save a load on the database and the your time writing these things.

    I was listening to CSPAN radio this evening and heard some Democrat senator, who, incidentally, had an ebonics overtone in her voice (seriously, no flamebait intended, this is what I heard), making absolutely outrageous accusations like "diebold, the company who is making the current electronic voting machines, has ties to the current administration" without substanciating this charge with a single piece of evidence, and continued to rant on with these mindless and baseless accusations.

    Ummm actually there is a lot of evidence of a Diebold/Bush adminstration link documented in the media. I find it hard to believe you regulary listen to CSPAN radio and not know about the mass amount of evidence. What does the "ebonics overtone" have to do with anything? Maybe you listen to KKKSPAN radio?

    I am surprised Doom3 was ever used for competition. I love the Doom3 single player experience. The graphics and scare factors are awesome. However, the multiplay was tacked on as an afterthought. Doom3 will have some great mods someday. I just can't get excited about 4 player multiplay in really tight spaces in a really dark environment. After an hour with Doom3 multiplay, I whipped out my Quake 3 disc.

    I won when I played the Kerry swift boat game. I had a hard time telling people I won because these guys, Video Game Players for Truth, who weren't there when I was playing the game came along and told everyone I never played the game.

    Yes, it's not C#, but it is getting closer and closer to being C/C++ (or something very very close). For instance, Java 5 borrows features heavily from C. Just take a look at some of the new features: - Generic Types (AKA templates) - Enumerated Types - Static Import (usage of this looks quite similar to the #define method) - Formatted Output / Input (printf/scanf style) - Varargs

    Crap. As a Java programmer, some show off programmer is going to use that crap unnecessarily and I am going to figure what all this stuff means.

    The real issue is that they are trying to paint Kerry as an elitist. Yeah Kerry is an elitist. The big problem is that Bush is an elitist too. The bumbling idiot Bush routine actually helps him look like a regular guy. In reality Bush is friends with the Saudi government, the Enron guys, and all the big corporations. Not to mention that he got elected president because of his dad.

    By voting Kerry, you're not voting for Kerry (if I understand you right), but rather you're voting against Bush.

    You probably are correct that I am voting more against Bush. But the logic is simply that Bush has made too many mistakes not to vote for the other viable candidate. I voted Libertarian in 2000 more as a "none of the above" choice. If I knew Bush had intentions of starting a war in Iraq, I would have voted for Gore.

    Proudly voting for Kerry!! I voted Libertarian naively in 2000. Bush pissed me off too much with his handling of Iraq to throw my vote away this time. I am glad you are throwing your vote away instead of voting for Bush. It will balance out the throw away Nader votes.

    Diebold has been incredibly resistant to being damaged, no matter how many problems arise with their software.

    It must help that Deibold has some really strong connections to the Bush adminstration.
