  2. Re:I learned from OLGA on Computer-based Guitar Training? · · Score: 1

I found OLGA to be entirely wrong a lot of the times. Amazingly a riff would be wrong in 4 different ways. It was still worth looking at to give you a start in learning a song or just faking it.

  3. Re:Harmony Central knows all on Computer-based Guitar Training? · · Score: 1

I have to disagree with you on learning classical guitar first. That would only frustrate him into quitting. Starting with the "Smoke on the Water" riff is a good idea. The beginner gets a reward for learning basic finger dexterity. I only wish I could play proper classical guitar, but if I started as a 16 year old with classical guitar, I would not be playing today. You learn the riffs and then later you figure out what is going on. Playing classical guitar would be nice, but I learn from songs I listen to and not many songs feature classical guitar. (Ozzy's Dee exception) If the poster is a young kid learning, there isn't much classical guitar in Linkin Park to learn from.

As far as not getting a Fender Squier, the Squire series is getting a lot better these days. I have a 2000 Squier and it holds its tune great. (Don't use the tremelo bar!) I only wish my 1980 Gibson Challenger would. :-(

Yeah guitar salesmen are slime. Don't spend over $300 on a guitar the first time until you know what is going on.

  4. Teach your self on Computer-based Guitar Training? · · Score: 1

Don't listen to the other posters saying you need to get a teacher. You need to spend the first couple of months getting the dexterity and finger strength down before you can really start to learn stuff. Practice switching from the open position of G to D 1000 times. Then repeat for E-C. Once you can move between chords, learn some easy songs like "Every rose has its thorn" by Poison. (Chicks dig it. Ok maybe 30 year old chicks.) Buy some guitar magazines. $8 buys you 5 songs and some lessons. Try Powertabs for some songs to learn. I only took 2 lessons and the teacher wanted me to learn Bob Dylan. I was like "that aint Metallica" and just learned on my own.

I do think a company like Nintendo does seek to do quality work and is loyal to their customers. I think a lot of that attitude is about maximizing profit because it wants to hold on to a loyal customer. Nintendo is worried about killing the brand of Mario with crappy games. So really Nintendo is trying to maximize profit in the long run.

Look at the Tomb Raider series. They cashed in for lots of quick crappy games that were the same. Now the franchise is worthless. Nobody is waiting for the next Tomb Raider game.

Gaming Culture??? What??? During the Nintendo days everybody was playing. Grandmas, six year olds, teenagers - everyone played Nintendo from 1988-1990.

There is no gaming culture. People just play games.

If your inferring that Madden, GTA, and Tony Hawk are "jock" games; that is completely stupid. I play those games and I am so far from being a jock. What kind of games must I play to be in the "gaming culture"?

Unlike punk rock, there has never been a console game created that wasn't designed for profit. I dare you to name one console game developed without maximum profit in mind.

As a frequent traveler, I still get a little scared during really rough flights. I whip out the gameboy and I don't really pay attention to what is going on anymore. Fear is all mental. 9. Re:Trivial Pursuit on 2004 Board Games Gift Guide · · Score: 1

While the questions are excellent, the actual game in Trivial Pursuit is moronic. The board game is horribly chance-oriented "Oh, missed the pie. Missed it again. Missed it again."

Even with no rolling dice element, the questions are still luck of the draw. Even if all the players were asked the same question, there is still the luck of the question picked because not everyone has the same knowledge. Every game involves a element of luck. Ken Jennings lost because he happened not to know one question, the final question.

I played the Genus 6 edition a few months back and the game has been dumbed down considerably.

Ever play Genus 1?? Talk about hard. Better be up to speed on 1930's movie stars.

If the question was on a president, the answer was Clinton.

For Genus 1-5 the answer was Nixon.

I have played most of the editions. I agree that the questions are getting easier but the people I play with seem to like the easier questions. Games can last forever when it is hard. The Pop Culture DVD edition is stupid easy but everybody wants to play it.

    6)Hitman: Blood Money
    7)Manhunt
    8)Mortal Combat
    9)Postal 2
    10)Shadow Heart

WTF??? Doom3 is worse than GTA:SA? Mortal Combat is violent maybe in a 1993 kinda way. It seems like they just looked at the history of the game's name in the media.

Doom was a big bruhaha in 1995. New one must be bad.
Uhh Mortal Combat has all this pixelated blood that we got a lot of press off of in 1992. Lets add it to the list.

Doom3 was scary in a haunted house kinda of way. Not any more violent than a typical FPS.

Gunslinger Girls 2??? I guess this game could corrupt the 3 people who bought it.

Shadow Heart?? A RPG?? How violent can a game be when you select attack, run or magic from a menu???

I would have to say Postal 2 is #1 because it tries really hard to be offensive on purpose and it probably makes the developers really sad it is #9.

No I didn't contact them because it really wasn't worth the effort for something that doesn't bother me much. Just saying there was never an announcement about the problem for the SP or a public offer to fix it. Contacting Nintendo would put me though months of phone calls and being without my precious Gameboy SP. I am not sure the screens are that different from the SP so it was worth mentioning because they probably knew about the problem already.
