You might be mistaken. There have been talks for a while about combining these two types of files, a jar archive and a gif image. The jar format is based on the zip format. Zips have their header information in the end of the file. Gifs have their header information in the beginning of the file.
One trick people have used to upload data files and secret messages to the internet is to simply append the zip file to the end of a gif file and upload it to an image host. When you download the image file from the image host, you get both the gif and the zip files. With a gif extension, the file will usually act like a gif and open up in image programs. With an archive program, you can open the zip file part.
So, i believe the attack uses some of the trickery you describe, but also uses this type of trick to fool most detection programs. At least all of the detection programs that look for a valid image header.
You can access linux partitions fairly easily. If the partition is ext3 or ext2 you can use it by downloading "Ext2 Installable File System for Windows".

This sounds like something that will take a while to hack. But once it is hacked we will have a new open format that can work like a cd-rom audio and stuff. Also we will have a cool new protection system.
For one thing you could block the gps signal. Because you can't always get a signal in some areas. Also the insurance company doesn't know if your on a road or not. I know that in online mapping programs there are road it doesn't think exsist. And if you go offroading with the gps enabled car what would the rate be for that?
People that work for Microsoft might already have this (I doubt it). The employees are supposed to find bugs and security issues not people from the community. It easy for an open source project that expect community input to say, 'We will pay our community that works' then a closed source proprietary software company to say 'We will pay the community.'
Yes but tech support isn't there in your house(usually) for free helping you figure out the problem. If your expirienced and made the PC yourself you know whats wrong. Or can find out easily. No need to call tech support who sometimes are dumb. It all depends on your expirience. If you are an avid computer person that has put together a few computers and programmed. You could do this yourself. And then upgrading is easy.
If you are just a regular user you would probally buy the system
This seems like a good way to have the shooting arcade games at home. You could have a small rifle/pistol/generic platic model loaded with sencors. Then you could calibrate it on your screen shooting various places, a fake laser sight, whatever.
This would be pretty cool to have to press the trigger just the right ammount, bolt action rifle, settings changing on the gun(burst, semi, full auto).
When i went to disney land with my marching band a while ago we were allowed back stage to get ready. Backstage they had these fireworks lauchers in an electrified chainlink fenced off area. And they told us that it was their smokeless fireworks system. If anyone took a photo of those they would get their camera confiscated and the film would dissapear. Of course what does someone do but take a photo hile we are dressing and gets their camera taken. And we had some cool ( were in high school) picuters.
This technology isn't at all new. They trusted it enough to use in the shows.
I don't think this will add onto 3d movies. It will simply make it easier for starting companies to not have to buy as much memory to store their 3d art. Not very great.
But if you think that in gaming the simpler the faster and faster = more fps this could be good game optimisation. As stated in the article somewhere. *i think*
I run WinXP and have gotten a few viruses and people have tried to hack me. Nothing major has happened, nobody has acually gotten through. Probally because nobody really cares. As is with most people on the internet.

This is a pretty cool setup. Not very different from the other online controls for stuff the webcam is watching.
Although i do like being able to change the webcam pan/zoom setting. I have not seen that before
But i don't really look for this stuff.
How long will this take to get to home gaming though?
Or will these leave millitary use and get sold to private companies to have people pay to play in them?
This will never work or be implemented.

for FireFox:
1. type "about:config" in your url bar
2. Find "network.protocol-handler.external.shell"
3. Change value to false
Thats all that you need to do to fix it.
They could just make their own opperating system for the search boxes. They don't need *nix with that much money.

--The trouble is, that the moment you give a 16 year old the smallest piece of information about something, he immediately assumes he is an expert,
Not all 16 year olds are like that. Some of them acually have comman sense.
Did you think that anything involving paper cut outs arcades would be good.
Unless its at night with a few playboy workers.
Yes me too. I would be a great minesweeper. Or galaga..
Here in California i have always pumped my own gas. I've heard of places where they pump for you, never seen one.
I need a klingon translator. That would be better.
Yeah everyone one is busy eating or 'exercising'.
Or 1/3 slower sat earth plane
Its the new placebo.
