    in Debian - well, sure. Until the next release comes out they definitely have time :)

    yeah, unix-style copypasting is nice - though it has its drawbacks too - ever tried to mark some text selected and then change it with this method?

    Unstable? On a productive server? contradiction. Again - I did that years long. I want a stable release on my productive boxes. Not mixing with etch, not mixing with ubuntu, no backports.org, no experimental branch. Pretty please.

    yes, I am aware of apt-get source -b ... but the more machines I administer, the less magic I want to do on them. Don't get me wrong - I was/am/willbe a debian admin - just don't get overenthiusiastic.

    One needs a stable _and_ fresh distro.
    Debian is stable. period.
    And bureaucratic.
    and many others base their work on it and give nothing back.
    and Debian moves as slowly as a rheumatic snake.

    BUT

    Debian is still the least bad. ( != best, that is nonexistent for years now)

    but not only that - If you want to download it, ofcourse it exists for linux, but it is not merely usual that there is a prepackaged version for Debian, and highly unusual that you can choose packages for:

    Debian Unstable (Sid)
    Debian Testing (Etch)
    Debian 3.1 (Sarge)
    Debian 3.0 (Woody)
    Debian 2.2 (Potato)


    it exists for Mac, QNX, FreeBSD, it runs on a pile of mobiles. That I call userfriendly, supportive.

    that is, I would love to, If I had a handhaeld, if they weren't so bloody expensive. I just hate to have a cell phone (or two), an mp3 player, sometimes a digital camera with me, all separated. I just want one gadget. An All-in-wonder single one. Is that really that difficult today yet?

    Based on your reasoning above, we should all assume everyone is lying about everything.

    If they have interest in it... he is generally right. Nowadays survival tactic is: show them a fake image of yourself how damn good you are. Especially true at applying for jobs. Or at court. Though you could do something new. When applying for a job, simply tell them the truth _and_ make sure they get your point of not making up something fake'n'shiny.

    Yeah, I know, "but Daddyyy, everyone is lyyyiing!!" - that's no excuse.

    OGG and co. are still better - however they seem to stay #2 forever - mp3 is already everywhere. It's quasi a standard. Technology is not everything - unfortunately.

    If you need a nice packet-manager (though not for the whole system, but for apps) then have a look at www.blastwave.org they have the r33l pkg-manager called pkg-get, woth all dependencies and stuff. Installs everything unde /opt/something, just update your PATHs. I installed solaris 9 on my notebook, and with this thing even mplayer worked out of the box

    just fyki. HAND.

    Or will we just have self replicating robots whos only target/function is to replicate themselves rule the world, with an economical crash at the end where there isn't anything else possible to produce except for selfreproducing robots?
