The Japanese gaming market, at least thats how it appears, I'm not a huge gamer, but you take a look at the majority of Japanese-only titles and think how well they would potentially do in the West.

Most of them would fall flat on their faces, and the same is true the other way around, at least in some part. My point is, companies like Nintendo and Sony are Japanese and they have a much better idea of what game content their market wants to see, therefore they are more succesful in producing tailored games for that market, and also find it alot easier to build up a fanbase for their hardware.

Japan as an entity seems to prefer titles like Super Magic Fun Travel Wish Yo-Yo 6 over something with lots of explosions and guns, maybe this is what companies like Microsoft are not realising?

Anyway, as I said, I may be way off, I havn't been a real gamer for years, and don't pay that much attention to it.

Look. I see where you are coming from, but you gotta admit the author made a very blanket statement, and one that is very wrong.

I don't think you can argue there. My original point was that it is complete bullshit to say that "Only IE can access Google Adsense administration pages", because its a fact that almost everyone out there using Mozilla / Firefox or whatever floats their boat can access it without any problems.

If he had stated something along the lines of "I had difficulty connecting to the AdSense site using Firefox", that would be fine, but saying the browser doesn't work at all with it because it failed when he tried is stupid. I was never debating whether or not he had problems accessing the page with Firefox, and I really don't care how he came to his incorrect conclusion, but the fact of the matter is that his statement was completely false. Just because he had a problem, why assume that everyone has the same issue? Thats just sheer idiocy, especially when you take into consideration the amount of factors that could have been the cause of the problem in the first place.

When you can round up a nice portion of AdSense customers that can't access the admin site with Firefox, I will retract my statement. Until then, I am sticking with what I said originally, the author from TFA spouted complete bullshit.

    "Actually, Mr Dip Shit"

"The AdSense administration site works only with IE, which, if you think about it, is ironic given the competition Google is starting to face from Gates and Co."

Quite clearly, this is not the case, as I and thousands of other Mozilla / Firefox / Opera etc users can access the Google Adsense administration page with no problem, so a blanket statement like the author made is obviously false.

Hey, I co-admin the The Linux Mirror Project which you mentioned in your post, and I just thought I would add my $0.02 to the topic.

It annoys the hell out of me when I read almost daily media articles about P2P networks being used only for sharing warez, and promoting illegal activities, myself and Matt have put a hell of alot of time, money and effort into our project and it feels like a kick in the teeth when these lobyists and "legislators" just immediately denounce P2P as illegal and immoral by default, and attempt to shut it all down.

I won't deny that alot of P2P users are simply warez leeches, but there are a hell of alot of legitimate uses (e.g. see Bob9113's examples), and these are becoming more and more widespread. Our trackers managed to see over 4TB's of transfer last month, and up until last week we were only based on a couple of 1Mb SDSL lines (which were also supporting FTPd's, HTTPd's, IRCd's etc), now think how much harder this would have been to accomplish using the FTP protocol. We would have had to increase our bandwidth by 10 fold. And this doesn't just apply to our project, this applies to alot of various content distribution, it really can work out well compared to the old FTP / HTTP standards in alot of scenarios.

I don't know how they can fail to see these new technologies as a real advancement in communications and data transfer, weilded correctly, they can be extremely powerful tools that could even save alot of companies and corporations time and money, and make content more accessable to the users. Sure there are problems, but maybe they should concentrate on putting out the fire rather than destroying the whole forest.

    That's one damn expensive disc.

Don't get me wrong, its their work and they should keep ownership rights, but for the money consumers pay for the product, they should at least have some freedom to copy the data providing it is for personal use. Whatever happend to "fair usage"? I can understand their concern over piracy, but from a business point of view, is screwing over your customers in an attempt to stop a few people getting the product for free really a wise move? Seems like the path most corporations and companies are travelling recently.

Also, by preventing your customers from copying the data, you are implying guilt before innocence, ie: people are more likely to be pirating than making legimate backups, so treat them as criminals by limiting their experience.
