I'm used to discussing these issues with YEC "Biblical Literalists," so remember you're talking about a whole year under water--and you're not just dealing with the water itself, you're also dealing with the pressure of all that water weighing down on the plants, the lack of sunlight, the absence of the normal reproductive cycle, the lack of pollinating insects. Even if your trees survived, your annuals are gone... and with only two of each pollinating insects (for those plants that need insects to pollinate), and the necessary wait of perhaps several year for the recovery of the pollinating animals. According to the Bible the flood did not last a year, 40 days and 40 nights. Or about 1.3 months. Also...couldn't there have been a stash of seed on the arc as well? The ones that can't survive underwater simply could have been replanted.
After the Reformation, many Christians threw authority out the window and started wondering around in Theology making stuff up as they went along and now we have Bible-only Christians that think every word is LITERALLY (as opposed to LITERALISTICALLY which is what most rational, thinking people read the Bible as) the absolute direct translation of God's will (despite their lose, error-prone translations into English, etc).
First of all, "wondering around in Theology making stuff up" is a very interesting statement considering the rest of your post. How do you suppose the people who think the 6 days of creation mentioned in the Bible did happen however they took place over millions of years arrived at that conclusion? Another problem I have with your opening sentence is that you claim the Christians who have thrown away the authority of the Bible are the ones who believe it...this doesn't even make sense from a non-religious standpoint.
I will concede to you and agree that the Bible inevitably looses some of its meaning when it is translated into any language other than its original. However, you forget that it was translated from something, and most theologians do not open up a copy of the KJV and go solely off of its translation. Many Bible schools offer courses in ancient Greek and Hebrew, enabling their students to analyze the original laguage texts as well.
These people think the Universe was created in precisely 6 24-hour periods and think (I'm not kidding, I heard one say this) that Christ himself use the King James Version to quote scripture. Using LITERAL interpretation, they would also think that 'Raining Cats and Dogs' literally means that canines and felines were falling from the sky.
Can I ask you why it is so hard to believe that a supreme being could create the universe in *only* 6 24-hour days? In addition I encourage you to examine this paragraph about the six literal days:
When Moses, under the inspiration of God, compiled the account of creation in Genesis 1, he used the Hebrew word yôm for 'day'. He combined yôm with numbers ('first day', 'second day', 'third day', etc.) and with the words 'evening and morning', and the first time he employed it he carefully defined the meaning of yôm (used in this way) as being one night/day cycle (Genesis 1:5). Thereafter, throughout the Bible, yôm used in this way always refers to a normal 24-hour day.2,3 There is thus a prima facie case that, when God used the word yôm in this way, He intended to convey that the days of creation were 24 hours long. (source: http://www.answersingenesis.org/creation/v19/i1/da ys.asp)
Proper Christianity, that is Christianity that stuck with what Christ intended and with the proper Apostolic Authority and proper scriptural interpretation based on ACCURATE translations of the Bible (i.e. the Roman Catholic Church and the Greek/Russian/Etc Orthodox Church), do NOT interpret the Bible this way, and instead interpret LITERALISTICALY which is to say that 'Raining cats and dogs' has a specific literalistic meaning and is not intended to be interpreted literally.
I would love to know what "ACCURATE translations of the Bible" the Roman Catholic Church and the Greek/Russian/Etc Orthodox Church use that is not available to any Bible scholar. Claiming that "Proper Christianity" is based on anything but the Bible seems a bit ridiculous to me--I would argue that proper Christianity is rooted in following the teachings of Jesus Christ.
Now, here we go: True Christians know that God created the Universe according to his own design in a specific fashion in a specific order and that the FULL details are NOT included in Genesis.
It's ENTIRELY possible that when Genesis talks about the 6th day God made animals, it means 'after 400 million years, vertebrate lifeforms evolved from invertebrates'.
The thing is that these spammers spam from legit accounts. They keylog people and create lvl 1 alts and spam. One of my friends got banned for this because some gold sellers were spamming from his account. I personally am stumped for a solution to the problem. (and the ignore/report thing on the account level could mess up a legit player!)
G-mail is hardly exclusive. Anyone that wants a g-mail account can get one. Even if this story is not true, and they have not "opened it for all". I'm sure many of us have gmail accounts with a lot of remaining invites...all anyone who wanted a key has to do is ask around.
Personally I think its a marketing strategy used by gmail to make people feel special by having it "invite only", but by making so many invites they have destroyed the exclusiveness of it:s
Here's another look at the 'Realism vs Style' debate. David Hayward, a level designer involved with UT2004 mod Alien Swarm...
I don't see how you guys can call it a dupe when the first sentance clearly states that it is "another look" at the realism vs. style debate. Just because something is on the same subject does not make it a dupe!
They didn't mean to spread the plague, it wasn't an intentional event. No one planned on it even comming into the cities from the instance. Since it wasn't designed to run through cities, it makes sense that it isn't going to:
make people have to wait 10 mins to resurrect when they die with the plague, or res with forced res sickness. Allow people to attack people that have the plague, and once they attack be attacked in return. Or even better, make the plague infect you with 'res sickness' as well as some damage, so you cant be a 60 warrior/priest group combo and just mow down all of IF.
although the rez sickness idea might help stop it from getting to towns. There will always be the group of people who get it and hearth as soon as they do to the nearest major city though.
About six months ago Anarchy online actually started in game advertising on billboards. It worked nice and they DID use it to eliminate subsciber fees. I think its an awesome idea and it definately benefits everyone
personally, I have a hard time playing games like DDR and Propcycle. They might be fun once or twice, but as soon as you realize that its artificial exercise its not fun. I would rather go do real activity if I want to do something physical. If I want to play a game, I want to play a game, not track my calories burned.
Seems to me there will be more virus/spyware stuff aimed at firefox because of this. I dont think that if I was a firefox user that I'd be excited about this.
And a dollar is actually a lot for such schemes. For example it is illegal for a boss to shave a minute off of your clock time even though it may only be worth a few cents extra. Doing that could save a large company hundreds if not thousands of dollars per pay period. The people recieving the checks probably wouldnt notice either, but it is still cheating people of money and illegal.
The same reason the "money shaving" scheme in office space was wrong comes to mind.
Does this mean that they will stop making final fantasy for PS2, or just that guy will stop working on the final fantasy series:-/. I was pretty upset that Plastation lost Oddworld to xbox I dont think I could deal with a Final Fantasy loss too!
From my experiance inventorying with postit notes, they dont seem to stick for long periods of time very well. I'm just wondering how they managed to get the post its on the building for so long? did they use an alternate method of securing them?
maybe the government will spend the US tax dollars on the game and the user will not have to pay for it. Either way, it will not be free, Someone will have to pay for it, the question is who? The user or the government
I have known and been using.rar files for about a year. I would think that somewhere along the way, some anti-virus programmer somewhere would notice a security threat and begin working on scanning meathods?
Just a thought/question, if anyone has thoughts or explanations I would appreatiate the information.
I am a big Popular Science fan, I am even a subscriber. However, I dont think that this will actually happen. At least not by 2010. That is only 5 years away people.
In each issue they have a "look at the old issues" section..errr page..many of those have talk of flying cars and the like, which still hasn't happend.
I enjoy Popular Science and think they have interesting articles, but a lot of it is speculation and dreams. Both of which are good, but are not necissarily reality. One day we will have this kind of thing, but I highly doubt it will be in the next 5 years.
I would say that finding a planet orbiting any star would be significant news, regardless of whether said planet might harbor life.
I would think this discovery to be significant news IF our 9 planets were the only ones we knew about, but there are tons of planets orbiting stars, the ONLY way one would be newsworthy is if it resembled our own or could harbor life.
I'm happy that the guy has made so much money with his creation...I have played the Sims in the past, probably more than it deserved. I'm not really a fan of the game. Ultimately, it leaves the player unsatisfied, because once you either a) realize taht you will accomplish nothing in the game by getting perfect, b)become perfect and have to maintain perfection (tough). The game feels more like a chore than a game.
I feel that the only reason it has lasted for five years is because Maxis would introduce "new" items, career paths, and such BEFORE their players got to points a or b described above.
To be fair, I did like the "missions" mode in the PS2 version of Sims. It gave the game direction and purpose.
I think that AOL will have to do something that hasn't been done before in order to gain back the web dominance they once had.
Making a browser with zoom and tab features has been done before. VOIP is also available elswhere, while this might satisfy their current customers, I dont see them drawing in a significant amount of new users with it.
As an x user of yahoo instant messanger and a current x-fire user, I see no grounds for yahoo to be suing. Surely someone who has a patent on a toothpick cannot sue someone who builds and sells toothpick houses...the houses are a different product all together.
X-Fire has way more features than Yahoo! messenger and is way more useful for "in game" chat.
For example, while I am playing Call of Duty Multiplayer and someone talks to me on xfire a small unobtrusive box appears near the bottom of my screen telling me that someone is talking to me. I can then hit scr lk + x and reply to them without exiting or "windowing" my game. The Yahoo! Messenger program would ruin the brightness setting of my game, temporarily pause my play and THEN require me to either exit or window the game in order to read the message.
These Yahoo! inconviences along with the fact that Yahoo! Messenger does NOT support hundreds of online games that are not their own creation, leave me thinking that X-Fire has improved upon Yahoo's system of doing things at least enough to avoid a lawsuit.
how at the end it asks you to click a link to download the full report. (ITS A TRAP!!)
"uses oxygen" oxygen in space O.o?

I went to the Puzzle Pirates website and it said "free trial", so I dont think it is really free.

But opera is not a new browser, it has been up even before alternate browsers started gaining large amounts of users.
