Even -that- article dosen't state what you claim it does. Game mechanics aren't patented, and although the artwork can be copyrighted and the name of the game trademarked, it's quite simple not to call the game anything with "catan" in it and not copy the artwork, etc. You managed to find an article that although interesting, has nothing to do with the real world - Read the U.S. Government's take on Copyright - http://www.copyright.gov/fls/fl108.html . Apparently you don't have a "monopoly" on links... good thing mine is accurate :).

Actually, you should preface your post with IANAL - and although IANAL, I've read into this a bit... how do you think Monopoly clones survive as shareware? Simple - they avoid the copyright restricions on games which in the US are -artwork-. You can't copyright the general rules - Milton Bradley can't own Tic-Tac-Toe or Chess for example. Mod parent down, this is just FUD :)

Not to be offensive, but I don't buy it. Simply because you cannot configure your machine properly when overclocked isn't a good reason to claim XP is unstable....

Admittedly, it may imply that the Linux kernel handles exceptions, etc better than XP, but from what you're saying, I suspect the instablity is in your -system-.

  19. Re:Money vs Quicken on Show Me The Money - Microsoft Money Vs. Quicken · · Score: 1

You're referring to the "Cash Flow Projection" feature of Money... I'm a die-hard OSS fan, so it's a little suprising to me to have found a MS product that's -useful-.

Money's cash flow/budget tracking is second to none - for example, you can set a grocery budget of $xxx a month, track how you met that goal (and what transactions were groceries) and show how those costs will affect your monthly bank account balance (based upon daily, weekly, or about 5 other projections) so that you can plan -when- to pay bills and where to have money when.

For those people who are complaining about the program's web-ish features - firstly, you can disable them in program and secondly have you heard of a firewall?

Money isn't the end-all of end-alls for financial software packaging, but it is a useful tracking tool. Anyone who isn't balancing their check book, but "trusts the bank" even in this day and age isn't thinking quite straight. These programs will never totally be replaced by web interfaces - too many people want their personal data to be just that, personal.
