    I worked at 7-11 for a year and a half. We closed for 3 hours that whole time. Partial slave labour, partial not fucking up too much... The reasaon we closed was a power outage. What's a stat holiday again?

    Post-it notes. A lot of them. I even have an orginisation sceme for them. Ones on the monitor are Ugrent. Second monitor are daily, the window beside me (also covered in post-its) are reminders (hours for work, to do sometime in the next week) garbage can under the desk is the "out" tray. If I need to look back I dig through the can. Holds 3 months worth of notes.

    At our shop we've found that putting Ad-aware, MS-antispy, S&D, etc on a computer doesn't matter. People still get infected. as a note, every computer we sell comes with OOo by default. It's also what we've standardised on for the shop

    To make a relitively useful one (still not perfect, but fun for the backyard) you could probably use a high quality phonograph setup. They're designed with limiting vibrations in mind. Might take some tweaking to get it right, but a record player powered liquid mirror sound has gotta be worth geek points ;)

    Yeah there's a vacuum system available for pulling wire through conduits. Suck the wires through AND STRiNG FOR GOD"S SAKE! When you need to go back and pull a new cable into the conduit, all you do is tie on and pull (tie new string on too, replace what you take out). Conduits save major headaches down the road

    Not totally off reviews, But the installing of software under linux being hard seems a bit wrong. Most home users probably don't want to compile thier own, but there's a lot of package systems to help with that. I care less about this right now though, seeing as I'm downloading Solaris 10 for FREE. (Thank you Sun!)

    a.) a geologists wet dream
    b.) a way for nasa to prove it can do something right, and get more money. (1.) Shoot missle at comet. 2.)?? 3.) Government Funding!)

    The Titan project (forget the name) is far better.

    We all know that the GUi came out of Xerox's PARC. They didn't do anything with it. And yes, Microsoft got the GUi out there, becuase they had name recognition after riding on IBM's success with it's PC's Apple, however, packaged it first, made it useable (considering the times it was quite a nice interface) and marketed it first. I agree that saying that Apple invented the GUI is wrong, however, this is a common thing to do in the IT world. How many of Microsofts "invention" were bought from other companies?

    that'd be fine except for the fact that the average home user does not want to learn linux... at least not yet. working as a home support tech, I've learned that all people want is to have their computers "just work". Plus in a printer and it works/is easy to install. cameras, scanners, etc etc. until linux reaches a point where it's as simple as apple's OSX or windows XP, it's not going to happen.

    How useful is this going to be when a alrge number of our apps (games, games!!) are written with a single processor in mind? seems to me like a case of gaming on a dual-xeon/operton. Waste of money and resources.
