That's the question isn't it.. the same question that came up in regards to hiroshima.

Should we allow something that can be used for evil to be allowed to exist or be used, as an application for "good".

The problem is who is defining good, as this changes.

unfortunately when you say no lasting effect you discount the many ways this can be used that will have a lasting effect, the mental wrath torture produces and the silencing all of political dissent are two things that rapidly come to mind that would definitely have a lasting effect even tho the short term use is for "good"?

Well i'd say maybe you are installing it wrong? I usually do it like this.. windows>SP2>drivers>programs.. if you install drivers before the SP2 then i have seen problems, but never in the way i specified (unless of course the driver is bad itself).

The mian problem i see is that people install drivers right away for things like network cards so they can do the auto update.. this typically hoses something down the way.. just get the sp2 as an executable and burn it to a CD for this purpose.. i have a CD burned with SP2 and other updates that i use after a clean xp install.

He explained it a little bit more saying basically if the person isn't trying to get away then you shouldn't be using force.. once the person stops fleeing you stop the force.
