I have to agree, i would rather see an ad (and i HATE ads) in the beginning or at the end or on the page itself.. problem is, all of those methods are easily bypassed.. the problem with the overlay it that it inevitably blocks something important.. last night i was watching a movie (The godfather) that had subtitles for the parts when they spoke italian.. along came an ad that covered the bottom of the screen for about 15 seconds.. needless to say i missed an important part of the dialog..

(yes yes i own the dvds and have seen it many times.. but it happens more and more frequently of late.. esp with subtitled movies).

I have to disagree.. the male and female genitalia go quite well with each other and i don't see anything you could learn in the bedroom about your partner that you wouldn't learn through dating for a number of years...

2 people who are virgins who get married (and then have sex) after getting to know everything about each other through years of dating would be much much closer than 2 people who fucked a lot and then got hitched... probably more so.

I run game servers.. i run them on linux.. they run better on linux (more servers on same hardware on linux vs windows server) and i have more fine grained control and (the most important reason) most game servers CAN be run on linux.

Might as well define liberalism since Overly critical guy doesn't know what that is either:

Broadly speaking, liberalism emphasizes individual rights and equality of opportunity. A liberal society is characterized by freedom of thought for individuals, limitations on power, the rule of law, the free exchange of ideas, a market economy, free private enterprise, and a transparent system of government in which the rights of all citizens are protected.[2] In the 21st century, this usually means liberal democracy with open and fair elections, where all citizens have equal rights by law.[3]

so no liberals do not get "excitied" at the thought of big government.. but if all you watch is fox news i can understand why you might believe that.

I call bullshit on that statement, these companies have already shown that they price things according to "what the market can bear" and now they are throwing advertising in our games to make even more money.

I'm not advocating pirating/ripping/whatever.. but to say games are priced at 60$ BECAUSE of piracy is just not true.

Even if there was no piracy, games would still be pried as they are now to maximize profit potential.. this is evident with my above example of advertising.. they are making more money off of it, did the prices go down?

In fact the opposite of what you suppose seems to be true, games that are priced in a more (what i call) "reasonable" range are hardly pirated if at all.. like serious sam... Everyone i know who had pirated other games just went out and bought SS because it was a 40 hour game for 20 bucks. "Has Doublespeak really creeped up on us that quickly?"

Well, as in all things, you have to consider the source.. what is the primary focus of PR and Marketing (the only 2 groups who actually are allowed to speak for a company)?

PR is there to make a company's image more palatable or smooth over indiscretions. If people liked the company already or had no indiscretions then this would not be needed.. so it must be that PR is just lying to make a company look good.

Marketing is to make people desire your product, if people needed your product they would desire it already, so marketing is just a way to manipulate people into buying things..

If manipulation and deceit are your bread and butter then is it so surprising that doublespeak would be the language of the trade?
