Why not feed the system with "dirty" water, condense the vapour and put it back into the "clean" water supply? Suitably filtered etc of course. Instead of totally wasting the energy, use it in the same way a desalination plant would. The heat you recoup from condensing the hot vapour also helps with heating the next batch of "dirty" water". Why power stations don't also do this is beyond me.
I live in Melbourne, Australia. A well known consumer test magazine here, Choice, said about 20 years ago that an advertised or store-posted price was only "an invitation to enter into a contract of sale" and was not binding on the seller. That said, it is fairly common for most larger shops to give you the item at the advertised price when it is incorrect (i.e low). I once got six pieces of wood from a hardware shop that were marked at $4 each instead of $11 each. They pointed this out to me at the checkout and after checking that the rest of their stock was also marked at this price (not just mine;-) ) gave it to me at this low price anyway.
The elections there seem to have a parallel with this whole situation. A few for; many against. The strongest stays in power regardless of what the majority wants.
Speaking of China and corruption, I had to laugh out loud when I read the quote at the bottom of the [Slashdot] page: "Mencken and Nathan's Fifteenth Law of The Average American: The worst actress in the company is always the manager's wife."

I describe to people the difference between solid state and tube musical instrument amps like this: Play an SS amp louder and that is what you get - it simply gets louder until it clips and makes lots of distortion SUDDENLY, kinda like when guitar strings buzz on the frets. With a tube amp, especially one that has little or no negative feedback the distortion =gradually= rises with sound level, giving an additional dimension (axis?) of expression somewhat like a piano that changes it's harmonic structure as the playing changes from gentle to firm. The amp is part of the instrument and it's contribution to the sound (unlike hifi applications) is 100% valid.

In my day we didn't =have= Ipods or cell phones or [insert modern device] so we invented them.
It's not the "Pope's own book" by a long shot. Many of the things it says directly condemn the actions and attitudes of his organisation. That is why in the Crusades they used to kill people for daring to own one of these books because the ordinary people would see that the were being conned big time.
I'm waiting for the day when someone tells those brilliant people that made that excellent "machine" that they did =not= make it at all, and in fact they don't even exist! Everyone can plainly see it evolved from scratch all by itself.
Imagine a car made out of this kind of metal. Someone ploughs into you, tow the car home, apply a flame and presto! off you go again.

Beat me to it. Lucky I did a page search first :0)
Get real. Roger Alsing doesn't even exist. The algorithm wrote itself. Sheesh.

My 10 MHz '286 running DOS 3.3 used to go from power to prompt in 11 seconds. Humans wake up. Old radios warm up. Computers boot up.
Bluetooth. BluRay. BlueTrack. I think my brain just blue up :-(

How come there are no tyre marks in the dust either in front of or behind the back wheel????
Why isn't the homosexual community suing Apple over the use of a rainbow of sorts in the Apple logo? Or is that a marketing ploy of theirs?

You mean they didn't just invent the cat scanner?
Hey! You stole that idea from a Dilbert comic strip! I have it sticky taped to the fridge at home.

You insensitive clod.
Just don't hold your cellphone too close to it.
dzzzt. "Whoops! Too much!"
Imagine if the humble telephone dial had received this much effort and technology. What would THEY be like now?
I hope the next time the pics used by Google Earth are updated they use something like this, assuming it is applicable.
