Dr. Evil has launched several satellites to orbit the polls to harness the energy of the magnetic flop and create a death ray capable of destroying mankind.
All to extort the wealthiest nations on the planet for...one MILLION dollars.
Has there been any major academic co-operation from major universities or research groups to contribute wikipedia?
I know people contribute individually, but I am just curious to see if there has been any major institutional contributions that the project is aware of.
I guess mostly I hate all the cheese. It just seems so fake and to me the acting isn't really good.
IMHO, this is the one big advantage (other than special effects) that movies have over live performance (theatre, broadway). Movies are a lot more personal and allow you to immerse yourself into the story and participate emotionally.
When I watch theatre or musicals I just really can't participate I guess. I could just chalk it up to the stimulus overload of my generation (born c. 1983), but that is like saying that it isn't the Pentium 1's fault that (almost) no one uses it anymore. Sure it is a high quality product and serves it's purpose well, but it's purpose sucks because there are things much better out there.
In related news, the baby bells have tapped the RIAA for their team of lawyers to start tracking down individuals that are using their communication networks and are not paying access fees like other phone companies do to operate over their lines.
Then they will sue them until everyone gives up computers and goes back to taking the needle of the record so they can ring up the operator for the klondike 5 number of their friend down the street.
I can't wait.
While it is true that both individuals and corporate entities have equal rights to GPL'ed code, neither one can profit from it.
The other poster's logic is incorrect because the reasoning is that if the company cannot repackage it and sell it, then it will not be of any use to them. Quite to the contrary, they can use it internally for their own purposes to save them money on developing software on their own.
In short, there are many other uses in a company for GPL'ed OSS that do not include profiting from it directly. I think that is what you have been trying to say all along.
I think that all publicly funded software (except that with a security concern) should be released under the GPL. The people paid to have it made, the people should be the ones to benefit from it.
It would be nice to know what they took as "broadband" speed. I know that the speeds of broadband in Japan are blinding compared to what we have in the U.S.
If they raised their standards perhaps we would see quite a different deployment figure.
Something about Novell's push to be a Linux/OSS company has not been effective.
Evidence? When I say "Red Hat" what do you think of first? When I say "Novell" what do you think of first?
They really need to get to the point where people instantly think "Linux company" instead of "failed network company" when they hear the Novell name.

How many stars does IE rank agianst them?
It would be nice if they included that.

"More importantly, I'm curious how other universities will start making their courses available freely online."
It's simple, they won't.

I love Monty Python and the Holy Grail, I also hate broadway.
That said, I don't know if this will make me like broadway more or the Holy Grail less.
I think I will just opt to read the reviews and just tell everyone I heard of it and was thinking of watching but I haven't had the time yet.
So are they going to pass a law that prevents the labels from illegally enticing people to buy CD's that have built in copyright protection?
Their argument is that DL'ing copyrighted works is violating the rights of the artist and copyright holders.
I say they are violating the rights of the people by placing undue restrictions on our property!
What if there was life on Titan and they shot down our probe because they thought it was attacking them with it's scanning technology.
Then they would send a probe to our moon and scan it with their weapons technology.
That would suck.
1. Establish Monopoly
2. Profit
3. Use FUD to Equate Shared Source with Open Source
4. Block Real Open Source with Patents
5. ?
6. Profit

The Gentoo folk would have liked to issue a statement but were unavailable when the story went to print because they were too busy compiling.
"This site has no connection or endorsement with Red Hat Inc or MandrakeSoft." I guess that says it all.
I think that anything that furthers Linux deployment on the desktop is a good thing. Whether or not this will have that effect is doubtful.

Judging from the article that was linked to at the end of this story, I would call them a Murder.
