Not entirely. Taxes are levied on any transfer of wealth/property; think of sales tax, etc. Just because you don't pay it on gifts during the normal run of things doesn't mean it's not owed.
Wrong. I don't know where you got your figures from, but the rate (from the WHO) is between 13 and 15 per 100,000. You're off by three orders of magnitude, putting the Foxconn place at SUBSTANTIALLY over the national average.
Actually, this says that iPhone users REPORT sex with MORE PEOPLE than other phones. Maybe they're just more concerned with their image than users of other phones?;)
You say that you have a GED and average intelligence, but half of people don't have average intelligence, and some folks don't even have a GED. Additionally, Wal-Mart doesn't offer insurance, and they employ tens of thousands. The people who work there don't have insurance, so if ANYONE works at Wal-Mart, they invalidate your premise.
That's ridiculous. What if he can't find anything? Does he starve to death? Is this really a better outcome than making companies properly label their damn food?
How can you be an intelligent, rational consumer if you don't have information about what you're buying?
Hear hear, I'm also 6'5", and I'm sick of either a)sitting with my kneecaps displaced because of the seat in front of me, or b)requesting an exit row only to find that they're all taken by shorter folks who just want to stretch out.
If everyone loses money on Medicare, why do doctors accept the patients? It's not mandatory, and if they were actually losing money the patients would be dropped.
Dude, I just escaped from Syracuse after 3 years there, and I can tell you that it first starts snowing in August or September, and isn't cleared until May. Short winter? Are you high?
Of course, I hear that Syr gets more snow than other upstate locations, so maybe you have a different experience somewhere else, but Syracuse is a hellhole.
KMyMoney is one that I've been using for a few years now, and it's very, very good. No Windows version yet, but if you can't wait (or run andLinux, or use VmWare Player, or get KDE for Windows, or...), you can use GnuCash, which is also quite good.
That's not just a ridiculously tall order, that's inherently impossible; there's no such thing as "objective value". Value is a quality that people ASSIGN an object, not a quality of an object.
Unfortunately, it's impossible to try to debate what a "true libertarian" believes because there's as much of a problem with that definition as there is with a "true Scotsman".
I'm not rich. But ideologically speaking I believe that laissez-faire capitalism is the best way to relieve poverty, ensure liberty and minimize conflict.
You lost me right there. You honestly believe this? You want to go back to the "glory days" of laissez-faire capitalism in 19th century England? Where the poor were ruthlessly exploited and left to die in the streets? Man oh man, YOU are the person who has to read history books. Your view is highly idealistic and somewhat myopic.
... So heating the clouds produces a change in the local weather patterns, and as we all know, local weather is part of global weather.
This seems like a great way to start a hurricane.
Not an issue. Remember that microwave ovens operate on a frequency that is specifically tuned to resonate water for heating purposes. The microwave frequencies used for power distribution would be specifically tuned NOT to do that. Google for radar and absorption spectra to get a better idea of the phenomenon.
That is ridiculous. I can't believe that people actually want to use the LEGAL SYSTEM through private lawsuits to cause companies to comply with environmental regulations. This is so wrongheaded it makes me sick.
For example, who decides what pollutants are? Who can possibly assess ECONOMIC damage from, say, cadmium poisoning of a water supply? What if there's a jury trial or arbitration where the corporation doing the polluting can simply spend their way out of responsibility by hiring lawyers? Why should lawyers get rich off of the job of keeping our environment clean? This is ridiculous on its face, I can't believe it's modded so highly.
Spelling Nazi alert! Just FYI, the word is pronounced 'gunnels', but it's spelled "gunwales". It's a bit of Navy terminology, and I think the spelling was inherited from the British Navy way back when. Sorry for the rant!
Hear, hear. I had shingles when I was 15, and while unpleasant, it was not horrid. However, that virus is with me (and anyone else who gets chicken pox) for life. I can only hope that I don't get another outbreak when my immune system isn't up to the task of dealing with it.
I believe that the canonical example is known as the "zero sum fallacy". Basically, GP believes that for value to increase in one part of the economy it must be taken from another part, which is false.

can i buy it without the squirrel? Ah! For that, you'd want The World's Strongest, Most Expensive Beer Served OUTside a Squirrel.
For some reason, as I read that it was narrated internally by Terry Jones. Kudos, sir! And get this man a Crunchy Frog!

All hail Ignutius!

Linux = Linus' MINIX. See the Torvalds/Tenenbaum conversations for some background.
In Soviet Russia, Benjamin Franklin routes around the Internet.
I was thinking more that we couldn't instantiate him because of a pure virtual function, but that works too. :)

Or just open a window and get a box fan from the store to blow air. By the way, it DOES take money to run the A/C.

It's Mike Wolfe, congratulations on making Slashdot, if this is your first time. What a happy surprise seeing your name there!
