Horaay for Winos!!
It's about time Winos started contributing to science beyond being lab rats for evil genius mind control experiments. When you consider that Winos have a superhero (Hancock) AND a Rock Star (Amy Winehouse) in their ranks, I'd say the Wino lifestyle has
gone up a notch or two!
This has already been done, its called STEAM. It changed the way I play and pay for games. No, it is not perfect but overall it rocks. Auto game updating makes me VERY happy and the range of available games is expanding all the time.
Though this is not to say that Sony couldn't possibly do it better and more efficiently.
DANG STRAIGHT! This may be the best slashdot post ever. Why, in my 29 years of life as an American Citizen has nobody taught me this? It makes sense to have federal offices accountible to elected state officials. Man, I gotta go tell someone about this......
If you haven't tried EVE before, give it a try. It's a different kind of MMO. More player drive, not all hack and slash. The learning curve is kinda high, though. EVE TV is a cool concept. Hard to say if it will catch on, regardless it is a good game.
Now that they got the spam thing under controll, maybe they can get serious about human rights and civil liberties. Of course, the U.S. could take that same advice I suppose:(
Man, if I had the mod points I'd throw them your way! This is exactly what I have been wondering for years now. I don't get why M$ has been the focus of so many nutty rulings and lawsuits when countless other companies do the same thing everyday without the slightest peep from "Joe average citizen."
In regards to your question about what is acceptable and what isn't.....
Given the way other decisions are made regarding the tech industry I'd suspect that it would take some bureaucratic government committee to figure out what would be the minimum level of capability. But they would only be able to do so after years of frivolous spending and bickering.
Outside of the fact that this is a publicity stunt, I think this is really cool. The notion of creating plants that better handle the crap in the air is pretty ingenius. I guess with all the focus on reducing fossil fuel consumption and making more efficient fossil fuel burners I never considered the role that "super plants" could play in offsetting pollution. Could these plants and others like them REALLY be be utilized in a way that would put a noticeable dent in reducing air contaminants, or is this just a gimmick?
If I had some mod points I'd toss them your way. You make an excellant point! We all get annoyed by the nag features in the apps we use, that is untill something like this happens. The developer is definately at least partially responsible here for not "thinking like the end user."
The other day I read an article stating that Apple trademarked the word "Numbers." One could logically assume that this is the name of their much needed forthcoming Excel clone. I wonder how Apple's iWork suite will fare with a little free competition?
I'm SOOOO ready to dump Office X that ANY alternative seems great.
My years of violent game playing have given me the perfect solution to end this nonsensical debate. We should let those parties on either side of the issue FIGHT TO THE DEATH in a bloodsport type battle! WoooooHooooo!!!!!!!
um, er, wait.... I think I just proved the other side's point. Curses to this confounded "logic."
I am sooo addicted to this awesome show. I like "Enterprise," but I LOVE BSG. This show has sucked me in with it's awesome story, great acting, and snappy special effects. It's so cool that Sci-fi Channel finally got their act together. Hopefully, this will be the second in a long line of seasons for a top rate show.
I use a 12" Powerbook G4 for my "serious computing" and have a custom built gaming rig (Win Xp Pro) at home for my fragging. Yay for harmony and balance!
Running OSX virtually on a PC is like putting a Ferrari engine in a Pinto.
I imagine that the overwhelming majority of people that gravitate toward OSX appreciate and prefer MAC architecture over PC anyway. When I switched, it was a TOTAL switch, for good.
Last summer I sold my Dell Inspiron 8200 on Ebay and bought a Powerbook G4. All through college (programming major) I swore I would never use a Mac. All that changed however when I got my hands on OSX. For the first time I was using an OS that was intuitive, stable, AND powerful. I was hooked.
To answer your specific question, I would defiantly say No. Why would I want to use X86 architecture and hardware when the Mac architecture is a PERFECT mate with OSX?
Besides, as a previous poster has mentioned, your idea has ZERO chance of ever happening. No sense in postulating about things that will never be.
Why should anybody listen to the whining and urging of a television network that can't even stay true to its own original purpose of SHOWING VIDEOS!?
It's sad that voter apathy in America is so great that we need to utilize fictitious characters in order to get people off of their political duffs. I suppose it won't be long before we will not only be using these characters to advertise the elections but also to RUN in them!
Can the Apocalypse be far off?
Actually I am participating in an identical study right now. I am posting this message though my psychic uplink to slashdot. Kinda funny how extreme and dire circumstances such as internet inaccesibility can force people to adapt, huh?
Next week I'm going to stop eating so I can learn to abosrb my food through osmosis. I'll keep everyone posted as to how it's going. If I don't die, of course.
THANK YOU so much for saying this. I wish more people would avoid over simplifying the tremendous decisions that face leaders every day. The fact is that both Rebublican and Democrat presidents have had to bear the weight of a decision to go to war. It is slanderous to dehumanize leaders as warmongers simply because they have to choose between the lesser of two evils. Life is like that sometimes.
BTW, I think you last point about the Iraqi scientists is VERY insightful and forward thinking. Comments like this make people think, and better the./ community as a whole. Way to go.
I agree. This movie made me seriously think about the potential dangers and benefits of genetic engineering. It was well acted, well written, and didn't need to rely on flashy special effects to get the job done. Good call on this one!

Men may be smarter, but women LOOK much better in scantly clad garb. So I think it all balances out in the end.

First Post! man, This made my day!
Woot. First Post. I didn't realize that "denial of service" attacks were so old!!!
I never thought Jessica Simpson's brain would contribute ANYTHING to science. Guess I was wrong. Dead wrong.
I never even knew the Pentagon was into Counter Strike! Wow! Just goes to show that gamers come from all backgrounds :)
You expect me to wrap a sheet of titanium around my wang AND still be able to perform? Forget it. I'll stick to the aluminum foil hat I normally wear!

Too bad Martha Stewart is in a female only prison. It would be cool if they could share a cell together. The sitcom possibilities would be endless!
