  2. Piracy and Downgrading on Ballmer Says Vista Selling Really Well · · Score: 2, Informative

Keep in mind that a lot of people:

    1) Use pirate versions of Vista, mostly in Latinoamerica and Asia.
    2) Downgrade right away to XP or Ubuntu, usually wasting the license that came with the PC.

So I wouldn't take sales as a factor here.

  5. Great for HD TV Shows on Sony To Launch PS3 Video Download Service · · Score: 3, Insightful

This is great news for people in developing countrys with little or no HDTV content available and download (pirated) HD content that can't be otherwise obtained, specially HD shows like Lost or T:TSCC.
At least here in Argentina a lot of people have HDTV-ready TV sets, high-end PCs or next-gen consoles but we don't have HD supported cable, Directv or even a OTA digital tv format (We may get ATSC as standard next year).
If we could get HD downloads for cheap (let's say $2 an episode) I would gladly pay it.
Same thing for movies, imported from USA Blu-ray movies cost 60 dollars here and there is no local production like DVDs yet.

Postdata: I know Apple TV/Itunes has been doing this for a few months, but this device it's not popular over here. PS3 is.

Sorry, the right name was Transformers.2007.1080p.HDDVD.x264-snoopy.mkv so I guess it was ripped straight from HD-DVD
300 was the blu-ray ripped one.
Frankly until I get a player I will just call them HD movies or MKVs since they are all just data in my HDD.

  7. 720-1080P MKVs don't have this problem on Blu-ray In Laptops Could Be Hard On Batteries · · Score: 4, Interesting

Last night I played Transformers 1080P Blu-ray rip (10GB MKV file) in my Vaio VGN-FZ340E.
I used "Media Player Classic" with latest K-lite codecs, using the just the stock battery and a medium power saving mode and everthing went fine for the entire movie.
Yes, playing this files may not be legal but I just don't see a better or legal way to do HD with my current hardware.
Same thing happens if you try to play a Blu-ray movie (Assuming you have a drive) with Linux.

That's true. Verbatim basic DVD-Rs and DVD+Rs a few month ago used to be top quality Mitsubishi Chemicals (Singapur - Taiwán). Now they outsourced production to Moser Baer (India) and the quality has decreased. You can expect burning failures or disk read errors.

  11. Re:The best option on HD DVD Prices Slashed By Toshiba · · Score: 1

Meh, it doesn't really matter at this point. Digital Distribution is going to end this format war a lot faster than Sony's or Toshiba's corporate posturing.

Maybe with tv series, in fact I just downloaded Terminator SCC S01EP1 last night from mininova, watched and deleted it, but I don't think people would replace their full, tangible movie collection with a 500GB HDD full of movies that may fail and leave you with nothing (Even if you have the option to re-download the stuff for free it's a hassle).

A jedi knight in Star Wars can be compared to a "Commando" unit in Command and Conquer 3. Yes, a few bullets or any armored vehicle can kill him, but he still is an elite unit that, if unnoticed, can take down an entire base down in seconds.
Clone Wars was about that: Infiltration, stealth, supremacy. EPIII was about Anakin becoming Darth Vader and that's it. They totally wasted Mace Windu and the other cool Jedi knights that they fought so well during clone wars.
