I would rather see people run around with shoulder-mounted rocket launchers blast the hell out of each other, actually.
Why do you choose the lame games to turn into sports?
Man, I turned vegetarian almost 2 years ago, and it really does help keep your weight down. I'm a sandwichhollic, and if you look at the fat content in a sandwich, it's all in the mayonaise, the cheese, and the meat. Cut those out and you still have a mighty fine sandwich, and you cut out all the excess fat, while still filling up on the veggies. I still stick a piece of cheese in though;D
Amen! If these guys CAN do it, why not let 'em? Sure, some people may not like it, but these guys aren't the only ones who have thought of this kind of thing before. Heck, I would try it, if I had a level 38 character, WoW, a computer that could play WoW, a large amount of time on my hands.
Well I would say that technically the movie would be much stronger than the book, for storytelling alone, because the movie shows exactly what is going on and conveys what happens better. Who steps where, who says what in what tone, etcetera. Nothing is left up to your imagination. When you read a book however, you imagine what is going on, so it makes the story more real to you. Everyone imagines their own version of Gollum, and that version, which is a collection of your own fears, experiences, and thoughts, is a lot scarier than the Gollum from the movies, because the Gollum from the book is fine-tuned to your psyche. That's why reading a scary book before can keep you up at night, but a scary movie, with all the bloody gore, jump-out-and-scare-you scenes, and atmosphere, barely holds your interest a few minutes after you finish it. Also, books take longer to read, so you are more tuned to the story than an hour and a half of gunfighting, car chases, and sex scenes. In a book, you get to know the characters, and you think about a good book all throughout the day, until you get to read it again, so the danger and tragedy seems more real and risky to the characters you know and love.
This is, without a doubt, the coolest news I have heard all week!...Er, we all mourn his loss.
Now whenever anyone tells you that video games cause violence, you can tell them that's only in China.
Okay, people treat you (generally) fairly friendly, right? Well, the rest of us get our asses flamed every single time we play any sort of online game!
"Get out of the base, stupid!"
"Get the flag, fag!"
"Build faster!"
It's just like in real life, where girls get treated nice and hit on, and us guys just beat the crap out of each other.
There is a bias, and it is, most of the time, against the guys.
It's hard to deny.
Define "Gamer". Maybe 40% of girls/women game some of the time, but I doubt most of that 40% plays the same as or more often than their male counterparts do. It's all about the hardcoreness(I'm coining the term). Maybe 40% of women rate up there, but I think you would find the hardcore gamerness of males drastically outnumbers the hardcore gamerness of females. In general. Is there a statistic with hours instead of just numbers?
Yes, because girls clearly don't like solving puzzles. Puzzle games, such as Bejewled, totally alienate female gamers. They don't want to push blocks around all day. They're girls. They like fashion and stuff, Right? Yup, I totally understand women.
I think it's also that most guys enjoy a lot of action and violence, and most guys play at least some video games, wheras although somegirls play video games, not all, or even a majority, are heavy gamers. It's not about games targetted at girls, it's about girl's interest in the types of games already out.
They should just make it so that you have to respect patents and copyrights if you are going to sell your product.
Like let Freecraft do their thing, 'cause they are Open Source freeware, and free. But, for example, don't let someone rip off someone's idea and sell it.
It would have been nice to see some screenshots, concept art, or something. All I know is it's going to be a lot like Diablo II, according to some people. They just say "Well, it's an RPG set in hallasized London. ANTICIPATE!" Ooooh. I can't wait to... Do... Something. In London. I'm glad they released so much information on the game mechanics.
While that would work, and is a good idea, I had kind of pictured an actor making speeches and stuff. You know, rallying troops, staging battles, stuff like that. Or if they just walked around, you could just have them talk to a few lucky people. So you would be saying "So, did I tell you I talked to Neo? He kept saying 'whoa'. It was weird."
And your friend would be like "Really? Cool. I saw Trillian once."
I'm just thinking of all the resumes they must be getting right now:
"Hello, I'm a thirteen year old with plenty of experience in boh the MMO communities, and the RPG communities, and..."
I always thought that curiosity and scientific advancement went hand in hand. If these aliens are so advanced, then wouldn't they be inclined to be curious about other species?

And also a lot of people play, it, pay them, and love the game.

"Movies, books, and TV shows made from video games pretty much always suck."
I disagree with the last one.
Do the Mario!!
Right guys? Guys?

Dude, Fallout Boy Doesn't ride a bike across the post-apocolyptic ruins of a battle-ravaged city delivering packages! That's just crazy talk.
I'd play that! That would be pretty sweet. Like Paper Boy meets Fallout.
This is, without a doubt, the coolest news I have heard all week! ...Er, we all mourn his loss.

What's the point of sarcasm if you get modded down for it?

Amen to that. Guys mostly play as women in MMOs to get the other guys to give them free stuff and treat them nicer.
I included an /sarcasm tag, but /. seemed to have edited it out.

"But mommy, why did you name me Trogdor?"
Man, I hope if I ever get publicized like this they never find any of MY flash animations...
Do you seriously think it costs anything like $60 to distribute a boxed copy of HL2?
While that would work, and is a good idea, I had kind of pictured an actor making speeches and stuff. You know, rallying troops, staging battles, stuff like that. But Gamespy... They have their own arcade.
